[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

Is this still set in stone though? Especially as an individual DLC, Tibet should be possible to add with some courage. It would be such a worthwhile addition!
Tibet has been playable in EU4 and CK2 for years, and they are sold in China as well. Tibet even has a mission in EU4 called "End the Chinese Threat," which needs them to go even farther into China than the historical Empire did and take over the mandate of heaven. If that's no problem for the censorship...

Paradox games are sold in China on the grey market. They aren't actually marketed there and they aren't approved by the government to be sold there. So says Johan, who decided that it wasn't worth the hassle after previous dealings with the Chinese government. I guess this might have changed in the last year or so, but probably not.

Suffice it to say that treating Tibet as anything other than part of China now and always is definitely a huge red flag when trying to get a game approved for legitimate sale in China.

We'll probably go too far off topic if we continue, though.

First look might drop within present and 3 hours or so. Dont dispair yet till 20:00 CET today. Dont hold your breath. There is no certainly it would drop today or if it would drop tomorrow. A high chance of it releasing today (wednesday) is still no certainty.
has it ever come out that late?

This may have been covered already, but is there reason to think the new alternate leader would lead to civs like Eleanor, or could it be like Greece or India?

It could be either. If it’s Kublai Khan, my belief is that it will be like Eleanor, as all the alt leaders are base game civ leaders, and he’ll lead China as well as mongolia

I just started to like Paradox even more.

You mean China as well as Mongolia? Seems pretty bizarre for him to lead Korea

Yeah that’s what I meant

1) secret societies are not always about spying. It could be religious or economic or diplomatic

2) there's not necessarily a connection between the civ(s) in the pack and the new mode

rt on 1. 2 I’m not so sure—there still could be a relation, and we’ll probably know better as it goes on. the new natural wonders in the apocalypse game mode of El Dorado and the Fountain of Youth are linked with the Spanish Conquest of Latin America (hence the Latin American civs) and the ideas of an apocalypse and soothsayers are closely related to the Maya, whether that be through pop culture (cough cough 2012) or just in general

Sigh. Still nothing.

Tomorrow is looking pretty likely now. I'm really surprised, tbh - I thought for sure they wouldn't drop the announcement on Monday if they weren't going to put out a video on Tuesday or Wednesday.

I agree. I'm also surprised it wasn't immediately available for pre order. Seems like what they've done will depress sales to some degree - now you've lost potential impulse sales from the peak of the hype and you have an uninformed customer base who you may not reach successfully when the pre-order is available.

they might not mind once slow adopters see early buyers playing with maya or gran colombia and decide to buy, since there’s no actual pre-order bonus

someone said 20 CET. Have we ever had an announcement that late? if so, which one? Gathering storm was always at 7:00 AM for me on the Pacific Coast, so that’s 16 CET?

Tomorrow is a week before launch, so I suspect we may see one video tomorrow and one next Monday/Tuesday.

I mean the hype is obviously still strong enough for us to be refreshing Firaxis’ YouTube channel every hour, so I’m not sure their potential sales are going to dwindle all that much...

Bite was still hanging around on monday during the new frontier event. I saw him posting on civfanatics after the drop. If my memory has not abandoned me.

it does not - but to be fair, I was in bed and was just about to put my phone away when the announcement popped up, so Firaxis almost got away with it.

You mean that Gran Colombia never had an apocalypse and ceased to exist? :mischief:

Really? Tencent - the giant Chinese conglomerate - owns 5% of Paradox Interactive. I'd be surprised if they weren't selling at least some of their games there.

A long time player of Civilization games (IV still being my favourite, but I also like VI quite a lot), I was of course happy at the news that Civ. VI will be receiving some more content, as I think the game still has a lot of potential. That said, this "pass" system with smaller updates spread during a year, with a new one coming every 2 months left me somewhat "meh!..." Personally I'd prefer a solid and complete package, call it a 3rd expansion or whatever you wish.
If after 8 months of complete silence Firaxis/2K comes up with this rather underwhelming system (again, my opinion only) it's easy to see why: the competition in the market (and I shall say, "at last"). This way there will be something Civ. VI-related to wait for during months, ... "Humankind oblige, n'est-ce pas"?...

people are being too harsh on this. It’s the content of an expansion pass split up into portions. They’re right that we have enough mechanics, it’s about fine tuning and expanding upon them, which is what they plan to do.

I'm having a hard time coming up with a legit connection between Ethiopia and secret societies. You could fabricate something about their claims of possessing the Ark of the Covenant or about Zara Yaqob's paranoia, thinking there was a plot against him. Beyond that, nada. Maya and Apocalypse mode fit together thanks to popular imagination only.

if they are somehow connected, we’ll find out in July.

I'm guessing they are going to do a similar ten day reveal period for each of the packs. So it's going to be a while until we find out about secret societies.

I'm hoping they reveal the civs and the game modes we are going to be getting before too long however. They might announce the next one upon the beginning of the 10 day reveal period for the one they are about to release.

Well, I can't find the old thread, now. Anyway, it was probably before the Tencent stake. I wouldn't be surprised if Tencent bought 5% of Paradox specifically to get around the censors and sell Paradox games in China. That's usually what happens. Even so, Paradox has plenty of games that wouldn't be controversial in China (e.g. Stellaris, Cities: Skylines). So, I guess I don't know if EUIV is finally legal. It certainly wasn't for a number of years.

Again, though, off topic. No more from me!

A little bit of Googling showed a result with conspiracy of Ark of the Covenant and Ethiopia. Another conspiracy of priory of scion and Ethiopia.

Has the Internet spewing more garbage than truth?

On another note. A 'Indiana Jones' esq game mode of magical artifacts and extreme archaeology could be a fun game mode too include

Ark of the Covenant is central to Masonic mythology iirc, so that could be a connection.

I'd qualify the collapse of Mayan civilization due to drought as an apocalypse (from their pov) - natural disaster driven even.
