[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

I noticed that as well. But the unit appears to use the Spearman as a base for the models. I think it's either an anti-cav warrior replacement or a Spearman, but Gaul starts with them instead of Warriors.

The unique iron looks like a Gaul shield, and IIRC Gaul warriors would usually use a spear along with the shield (swords were too expensive for many common Gaul soldiers at the time as they cost more iron than a spear; Romans didn't have that problem as their large empire would yield a great supply of iron, so the legions used sword and spear together).

Edit: Also, isn't this particular discussion belong to the reveal video discussion thread?

I think Gauls Unique Unit is a replacement of the warrior cause of this part of the video
I agree. Pointed it out in the main Sept. Update video thread yesterday. I imagine it's just like the Macedonian Hypaspist in that it's armed with a spear, but is a Melee unit (i.e. Warrior in this case) replacement.

Or maybe Gaul starts with Bronze Working discovered?

I don't think that would cause them to automatically start with a Spearman, although it's probably a good ability for a civ that leans into Ironworking culturally. It would still be a special ability to start with unique spearman instead of warriors.

Wouldn't affect the units they start with. Would only allow them to build Spearmen early.

Starting units for all major Civs are defined in the MajorStartingUnits table and apply to every Civ. A new DynamicModifier and modifier set would have to be created and attached via a trait as there is nothing currently that would allow a Civ to start with a unit that is different than what is defined in the MajorStartingUnits table. Not saying FXS couldn't, or won't, just that I find it unlikely they would expend the effort for something that would be of dubious benefit. Although if they did, it would certainly allow me to fix a couple of mods.

Can we stop trying to make the Hittites happen, Anatolia can only fit so many civs
Ok but then Palmyra please.

She's essentially portrayed as a brutal, bloodthirsty sex-maniac in many of her myths. It's probable that the Greeks conflated her with Ishtar, come to think of it.

I have to admit my main source of knowledge about Semiramis is Rossini's opera, and while I would love to have a leader singing arias (Semiramis is exceptional and one of my favourite), I can understand why some might find it dubious at best :D

What do you have against Hittites? I really hope they do include them, they were awesome!

To compensate Western North America is pretty empty. :mischief:

If you have to name just three Civilizations you want in a game, who would it be?
My list: Venice, Berber/Morocco, Siam
I'm assuming you mean three that's not in or confirmed? In that case:
Italy, Assyria, Navajo

Renaissance Italy (be it Venice, Tuscany, Genoa, or even something ala Mayans), Macrobians/Somalians (Ethiopia might cover that already, but I have the perfect LUA: Hidden Spices - International Trade Routes give +1 Amenity to the sending city per luxury resource exploited in the target city; additionally, gain 1 unit of each Luxury resource exploited in the target city. Greeks thought Macrobians produced spices while they were just secretively importing them from India) and either the Assyrians/Babylonians
