[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

You seem to be implying that I have the grudge because I want the Greco-Bactrians in the game, which I don't. I don't know where you got that from. :crazyeye:
Probably because this is the "Possible New Civilizations" thread. :shifty: And because I do want a Central Asian civ in the game--and I don't want it to be Greek. :p

I'd kind of like the Kyrgyz led by Manas. Mainly because I made a mod design for the Kyrgyz and my older sister (who is a linguistics major) read the Epic of Manas.

The Parthians or Kazakhs would also be neat.

I'd like to see the Parthians replaced the Scythians as the Eurasian Steppe horse archers in Civ7, but I'd also like to see a settled Silk Road Central Asian civ like Sogdia or Kushan. (A Kuchean or Agnean civ would be so much fun, but alas, we know virtually nothing about the people beyond that their languages existed and they were evidently a mix of of Buddhists and Manichaeans--both pretty normal along the Silk Road.)

Because they chose Basil II as leader, I understand why they designed Byzantium the way they did but I think there were a multitude of different directions they could have gone other than domination by religion, even with him as leader.

I think Basil's design would fit a Roman Constantine the Great perfectly, FWIW.

IDK. Constantine was less of a conqueror and more of a reuniter of the Roman Empire. The Religion aspect would work, but it would need something more to do with domestic affairs than external conquest.

Flavor-wise I'd prefer Medici Florence for a post-Roman Italian civ, but mechanically I can see how the Papal States would offer more room to play around with interesting design. And really, the Medici we already have (twice, even!) in the game has the "Culture and Spycraft" angle covered already.

I'm a bit late to the party, but if we do get another "Final Frontier" pass, my preferences would be...

Indigenous NA: Navajo (Narbona)
Caribbean: Haiti (Jacques I)
West European: Renaissance Italy (Lucrezia Borgia)
East European: Romania (Vlad Tepes)
North Africa: Berbers (Dihya "al-Kahina")
Near Eastern: Hittites (Puduhepa)
North Asia: Tatars (Soyembika)
Asia Pacific: Philippines (Lakan Dula)

Alt Leader: Constantine (Rome/Byzantium) or Margaret I (Norway/Sweden)

Matilde de Canossa would be a better choice, IMHO.

Thing with Matilde is she doesn't really fit the personality of renaissance Italy. She's a military/religious leader and I think we really want someone displaying a more cultural/scientific leaning.

Honestly, now that we have Ba Trieu, I'm half-considering just making the Italian leader Da Vinci and being done with it all.

Speaking of Ireland I do think that can be a happy medium between Scotland and Gaul as the Celtic representation for Civ 7. :)

Agreed! So many people are obsessed with adding Ireland to VI and I...just can't see 3.5 civs coming out of 2 european islands islands when most of the entire islamic world is tied up in "Arabia", the Cree represents ALL NA indigenous culture, and all Italians are apparently represented by the Romans. Putting aside the Eurocentricism...the devs really care a lot about the anglo and germanic worlds.

Another thing I've been thinking about when it comes to new civs being added is the possibility for new UU replacements and 2nd unique districts. Maybe it's just my ocd brain wanting things to be equal, but there are so many ways that they can equalize these two categories to even out civ. And I know we have no idea if a season 2 pass will land or not...but it's something to think about still!

With GS and the NFP, almost every specialty districts has gotten a 2nd version (I.e. Seowon and Observatory) apart from three-the Commercial Hub, Holy Site, and Theatre Square.

Additionally, with Vietnam's crossbow UU and (assuming) Portugal's caravel UU, the only pre-modern units that don't have unique replacements are the Ironclad, Cuirassier (Rough Rider doesn't replace...) and the Field Cannon...and I feel they should have uniques!

So all in all...what civs could provide replacement UU/UDs for:

Commercial Hub:
Theatre Square:
Holy Site:
Ironclad:
Cuirasser:
Field Cannon:

Just maybe another, more mechanistic/gameplay idea of how to figure out what civs can be added beyond a representation angle...as that's been discussed at length already :)

Eh, again I think if we took the Venice model as a jumping off point and heavily modified it to fit Italian flavor, it could work.
Why rewrite and spoil something that works good ;) Espionage for example and diplomacy in general (first established embassies) was a Venetian history. Not Italian that much ;)

Yeah I, and most people, definitely wouldn't expect an Italian Inquisition.
ekhm. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venetian_Holy_Inquisition As it is said all roads lead to... Venice guys. Sorry
