State police brandishing firearms Monday raided the Tallahassee home of Rebekah Jones, the former Department of Health data scientist who built the state's much-praised COVID-19 dashboard before being fired over what she said was refusing to "manipulate data."

"They pointed a gun in my face. They pointed guns at my kids," Jones tweeted shortly before 5 p.m.

Jones — who launched her own COVID-19 dashboard after she was fired, and used crowdsourcing to raise money to support it — said the agents knocked on her door around 8:30 a.m. that morning, took all her "hardware and tech" after showing her a warrant based on a complaint filed by the Florida Department of Health.

A video accompanying the post shows Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents in vests at the front door with guns drawn, asking who else was in the house. She said her husband and two children were inside as they escorted her out of the house.

The video shows an agent entering the house with his gun drawn, calling for her husband to come down the stairs. When an agent told her to calm down, Jones said, "He just pointed a gun at my children!"

FDLE spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger sent a statement confirming the seizure of computer equipment at Jones's Tallahassee home and said agents are investigating.

"FDLE began an investigation November 10, 2020, after receiving a complaint from the Department of Health (DOH) regarding unauthorized access to a Department of Health messaging system which is part of an emergency alert system, to be used for emergencies only," Plessinger said.

Plessinger said when agents arrived, they knocked and waited 20 minutes for Jones to answer the door.

"Ms. Jones refused to come to the door for 20 minutes and hung up on agents. After several attempts and verbal notifications that law enforcement officers were there to serve a legal search warrant, Ms. Jones eventually came to the door and allowed agents to enter," Plessinger said. "Ms. Jones' family was upstairs when agents made entry into the home."

The investigation is active, she added.

"As in all cases, our role is to determine the facts of what happened and a State Attorney determines whether or not charges are filed."

2/ They took my phone and the computer I use every day to post the case numbers in Florida, and school cases for the entire country. They took evidence of corruption at the state level. They claimed it was about a security breach. This was DeSantis. He sent the gestapo.

This is what happens to scientists who do their job honestly. This is what happens to people who speak truth to power. I tell them my husband and my two children are upstairs... and THEN one of them draws his gun. On my children. This is Desantis' Florida.

honestly I think the FBI should be investigating the Florida State Police that performed this raid. It is one thing to accuse her of hacking and putting out a warrant for her arrest. It is another to act like this for politics. It is the politics of intimidation and yes I am aware it is used on the poor constantly, but there lies the rub right? If they are jsut going to start using these tactics on political enemies. . . well that is a dramatic escalation. Btw right wing PoV she is getting the Roger Stone treatment. I'm not sure how that went down, but I know he has a long history of being a criminal so my sympathy is less, but thats another story.

Well, to be fair. The Russian Empire dropped out when they had their communist revolution. Meaning that, while weakened, the German and Austro-Hungarian armed forces can pull their troops from the eastern front and reallocate them to the western front. Adding more pressure to the strained British and French troops who’ve been fighting for two-three years. American forces that were sent to Europe weren’t battle wearied and beaten.

To be fair in WW2 those same communists killed far more Nazis then we ever could have. As a matter of fact without the Soviets more Nazis would have been on the shores of France and Italy and very likely we would have lost that war.

If this was true, then the evidence would be on the server. There is no way that she would be able to hide the traces of communication on a server not controlled by her, but leave evidence on her home devices that she has complete control over. This is so obviously intimidation, but also rubbish intimidation 'cos what they are doing is less dangerous that covid.

According to the affidavit by an investigator with the department, an unauthorized individual illegally accessed a state government emergency management system to send a group text message to government officials last month urging them to speak out about the coronavirus crisis.​

If someone without the correct access credentials can send such a message, they have bigger problems than this.

I wish that there was some way for Biden to contact Pfizer and give them assurances that he will approve purchase of the additional 100 million doses as soon as inaugurated so they should just ignore Trump and go ahead and send them.

As a reminder... Pfizer wasn't part of "Operation Warp Speed", but still managed to be the first to announce a vaccine for the US... a fact which they immediately pointed out when their vaccine was announced and the Trump administration immediately tried to take credit for it. I doubt that Trump's refusal to buy all the doses they are offering is unrelated to that. At best, its petty revenge at the expense of the public... but TBH I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find out that Trump or someone closely connected to him has some big financial stake in one of the Pfizer vaccine's competitors.

To be fair... After looking in to this a little more... it appears that this isn't something that just happened recently. The refusal happened months ago, before the vaccine had actually cleared clinical trials. So at first blush, there seemed to be a justification for them not committing to get the extra doses at the time.

However, what also appears to have happened, is that at around the same time, they committed to buy 300 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, while turning down 100 million of the 200 million doses that Pfizer was offering. So I think my suspicion stands that there was some spite towards Pfizer for not joining "Operation Warp Speed", and/or some corrupt financial motive involved.
