We may need to keep the Aztecs in war the rest of the game to slow them down.

Okay, half the turns done. The Aztecs and Mongols have sued for peace and I'm contemplating the same. The RNG has been really bad; MDIs are losing to unfortified spears and archers. I razed Darhan but at a staggering number of troops. We really need to have seige. I think we should go for peace with Mongolia and use the 20 turns to build some seige. In the east we could take on the English with little problem. Oh, we also have our third army; it's empty right now.

Will finish tonight

Perverse, that's what this turn was. The RNG was just perverse. Here's the write-up, but these had to have been the 10 most frustrating turns I have ever played. We had a 5/5 MDI attack and lose to a 2/4 Warrior. We had the Mongols come with their stacks of archers and burn our established beachhead without losing a single archer to our pikemen inside the town. Our kill ratio had to have been 1:1 even with superior troops, and that only because of the armies. We are in desperate need of seige and I didn't do nearly drastic enough measures to set us in the right direction there. If we would have had seige with the landing party, we could have bombed any counter-attack force to dust.

The other nations are running away in tech; they have entered the IA.

There was good news. We have a second beach-head town established. In the east half of England's towns are destroyed or burned; the army should mop them up on their own. We got two more leaders; one went to building an empty army that sits in Niagara. The other needs to rush the Pentagon in a town somewhere.

We should be able to take out the Mongols. Just don't let me near the RNG otherwise we're going to see a lot more of this

:spear:

Inherited Turn

Okay, let's dust off the SG and get it goin again.

Start things off by switching over to Printing Press. Going to run that at a deficit and hope for monopoly, so science goes up to 40%.
I have to agree with the worker situation. Ideally we'll be picking up more and more slaves, so I'm going to merge some workers back into towns to get our economy goin a little better.

I will wait for a few more troops to arive in the east before declaring on England; however, I think our army alone should suffice.

For our empty army, I think I will ship it over to the Mongol lands as soon as we have a city built up there; I'll probably stuff it full of MDIs just to take out the Mongols before the Aztecs do.

IBT

Mongols continue their mass exodus south.
Lose a pike and a galley without troops and a galley full of troops
Build Heroic Epic

1) 560AD
Deposit our stack on the mountain.

IBT
Aztecs demand and i give freely. Just 25g and maps.
Numerous Aztec galleons are seen heading south.
Mongols land a couple troops on our northern island.

2) 570AD
So much for the Printing Press monopoly idea...

Our stack bears down on Darhan.
The Mongol incursion is repelled.

IBT
Mongolian units continue to head south, even with our stack on top of Darhan.

3) 580AD
Darhan is taken in what could be called a pyrrhic victory. The town burns on into the night.
We desperately need more trebs if we are going to be attacking with MDIs.

Settler founds the replacement town 1NW of Darhan's old site.

4) 590AD
We advance south; a small Mongol stack has come north. We show them how much we appreciate their hospitality.

5) 600AD
Mongols are now showing up toward the north in force. But the Aztec Galleons have also arrived to their south; I will back off and hope they head back south again.

War weariness creaps up; luxes go to 30%

IBT
Mongols are sending everything north. Aztecs land at least half a dozen troops on the mountain to their south, but they won't bite for it.
Printing Press comes in. Set to education

6) 610AD
We get a leader. Time for our third army for Pentagon; I won't fill it up; I don't think we need a second army for the Mongols ... yet. They have no resources and it is just a matter of getting rid of their units.

IBT
Aztecs and Mongols sign for peace. I'm tempted to do the same.

7) 620AD
The RNG is against me this time, I swear. My kill ratio is struggling to stay 1:1 and that's MDIs against unfortified pikes and archers.

Declare on the English. Think about keeping Birmingham for a moment, but we have more than enough settlers laying around, so the town is turned to rubble.

IBT

How in the !?!?!???? Not one archer dies to our FORTIFIED PIKEMEN. Not one! Instead they go through the 4 Pikes defending like they weren't even there and burn New Darhan, and take the settler that was waiting in it to boot!! This is absurd.

8) 630AD
I'm moving a settler over to get on the boats. We need a town on their land ASAP, and it didn't help our settlers were in New Darhan...

IBT
Aztecs and Inca hit the IA.

9) 640AD
Nada.

10) 650AD
Mongol Ashes founded on the ruins of Old Darhan.

...our 5/5 MDI LOSES to a 2/4 warrior. To its credit, the warrior was fortified on grassland.
a 3/5 MDI mops up and we get a leader; this guy gets to rush the Pentagon.

We capture Brighton from the English.

There are a number of troops not moved yet; to tell the truth, I just got frustrated to death and didn't want to lose any more troops to acts of god or other whatnot. The English will burn to the army. The settler in the east is in a good position; either there or SE one tile. Make more settlers to fill in the east, as the west has turned to an absurd stalemate. Somebody needs to up the morale of our troops, cause they are fighting like crap right now.

We needs lots more seige.

Yeah, RNG im this game is making laugh of us.
In my failed landing it went like that:

- archer dies on vet pike, but redlines it
- archer dies on MW/MW/AC army taking 9!!!!! hp
- next archer kills army
- archer kills pike

Just crasy

Got it for late tonight or tomorrow.

Build siege, the Pentagon and finish the English.

Looks like it is time to boost the treasury with some map trading. Shut off research for a bit, or at least until the Greek Peace Treaty expires and I can try a little extortion on Alexander.

Spend 1 turns income and get everybody's Territory Map except the Aztecs.

Then I think long and hard about what to do with Sitting Bull. The Pentagon gets us four unit armies which we won't be able to transport for another age. Another army over on Mongol land should turn the tide, especially with Trebs in support. So he becomes Bede's Division.

In 670 kill three Mongol bows at the gates og Mongol Ashes and invest Kazan.

And buy Education from the Greek for spices, and get his World Map in the deal.

In 680 assault Kazan and kill a pike. And then as much as I hate to do it 'cause it is just feeding the beast renegotiate peace with the Aztec and buy Banking for Ivory and 49gpt.

In 690 Kazan falls to the three armies and is burned.

In 710 the ante gets raised as the very first Keshiks appear. Looks like the Mongol are buying from Korea. Open an embassy to confirm, also open an embassy with Greece and Inca

We are out producing all of them but are falling behind because of trade rate and production discoutns. Need to get courthouses, banks and universities up at a minimum.

Got a little sloppy with the troop handling and lose Norwich to the English and a galley to a Privateer.

And in 730 assault Hovd and burn it to the ground.

The wines and dyes deal comes up for renegotiation with the Inca so I take the opportunity to pry Astronomy from him for an additional 64gpt by renegotiating the peace treaty.

In 740 Norwich is back in my hands and we march on Newcastle.

The next decade sees the demise of the English and the march on Karakorum continues.

com02english750ad5mx.jpg

We get a small peace dividend with the end of the Eglish war. Use some cash to upgrade the galleys to caravels and shift them to Oil Springs. There is a settler in Centralia. Move her to the neck where the army is standing on the road to Karakorum. That will keep the SW part of Mongolia closed and get Incense in the borders. The next settler should go to where the Aztec mace is standing to close the east, or even 1SE.

com02mongolfront750ad9ui.jpg

Make haste slowly. The Mongol is finished but still has some bite as there are Keshiks out there. Deals can still be made if you want to risk war.

OK I got it.

I will finish tonight. A little too much RL over the last couple of days.

Burnt Karakorum to the ground and had to make peace in 760 or else we'd run 50% lux with lots of specialists or 60% with less. They gave chivalry and 11g. I have lux at 10% with incense now online and chem at 50% due about by the end of my turn.

What I'm struggling with is what to do next. My turns will likely be MM and allowing markets, banks and such to finish so I think the balance of my turns will be peaceful.

However, I would really like to start on the Aztecs since they have the only saltpeter on our island but they have a MPP with Inca. They also seem to be the one candidate for UN and we would eventually have to take that city before a vote....I'd think.

Positives--
*They will likely declare on us for some war happiness. They have a frigate fortified in our territory.
*Capturing the salt city looks pretty easy as they have a reg spear protecting the city. A reg pike is outside with a couple LB's.
*Slows the beast.
* We owe both countries lots of cash in gpt.
Negatives
* We don't have cavs yet so salt would only help with muskets right now. Wait till cavs?
* Potential dogpile. The MPP with the Incans could be tough as they are giving also us 2 luxs right now. The Aztecs are rich and may be able to bring everyone to us.
* Our Mace Armies are in Mongol territory so they wouldn't be any help.

I will finish up tonight but we may want to discuss our next plan. The Mongols will be finished after their 20 of peace.

Sorry but I don't have a lot to report since most of the turns were spent cutting jungles, rushing a few buildings and moving units towards the Aztec saltpeter.

After 750 the Incans finish Bachs.
760 The lux is out of hand going from 40% to 50% with a pile of specialists too. We will need to make peace this turn. First we take out 3 pike with our two armies and raze Karakotoum for a couple slaves. I kill the keshik with an elite win but no dice. I make peace with Genghis and we get chivalry, 11g for peace. No cities available.

On the IT Koreans finish Smith's who beat the Aztecs so they get Newtons instead.

Other than that the Incans start Shakes in 820 and the Greeks and Incans sign a MPP in 840. Now the Aztecs and Greeks have a MPP with the Incans. There's a Aztec pirate ship that just sunk a Greek Frigate west of Onnontare.

I'm not sure the best way to handle this but we will need that saltpeter. I can see no other way. We may be able to wait a bit and see if the Incans deal runs off.

No trades available.

Whoa, everybody is sooo angry with poor Iroquose

I decide to continue peace treaty with aztecs to gather some forces
Get furs from Aztecs for ivory and spices

IT

Alexander demands spices,I'm tinking hard.
If Greece will declare war we allmost surely will lose one city (there are two greek knights there
and city is defended with MW)
On the other hand we can drag other AIs into war and it will slow their research.
I decide to decline....We are at war with Greece
We get Metallurgy start MT (5 turns)
 Newcastle flips to Greece. Is it only me who gets cities flipping in his turns?

900 AD (5)

Get Korea into MA against Greece

IT

Greek knights take Mandaglovi as I feared.
Aztecs have infantries
Inca declare on Koreans
Aztecs declare on Koreans

910 AD (6)

Start mass production of trebs

IT

Inca ask for MPP, It woud be great If I wouldn't sign MA with Korea two turns before
Inca start Usufrage

920 AD (7)

Boggyville is found in the middle of bogs

IT

Woops, aztecs enter our territory with gorillas and cavs.
I have a very bad feeling about this game
I will try to by them with gpt gift
Inca declare on us (they had MPP with greece)

930 AD (8)

Buy MA with aztecs for 100 + 28gpt

IT

Inca declare on aztecs, what a mess.
Inca land troops near our mongol city, aztecs promptly run to defend us:)
Pow Wow flips to aztecs!!! jees.

940 AD (9)

Bede's division kills inca musket

950 AD (10)

We get MT, start physics
Start Military Academy in Salamanca

Resume

Well, what can I say
Although we have MT now there's no saltpeter on our sucky island.
Except this of aztecs, and we are no match for aztecs now.
Maybe if we build Military academy and with knight armies and trebs we can declare on aztecs, but I fear they will have tank till then.
Also our flippy cities are not a big fun.
Maybe more experienced deity players can fix situation, but I don't see happy end here.

SAVE

Sorry, I've been rather busy during the past two weeks and haven't really been able to participate as much as I would've liked. I hope I'll have time to properly look at this during the weekend, but with a quick glance things certainly seem pretty bleak.

Time for a little Godfatherly talking to here:

We do not need saltpeter to take care of business with the Mongols. That alone should be a major boost to our economy.

Skip the universities and go for troops and banks. Shut off the scientists and start saving cash, it's time for Bede's favorite extra-mural activities - extortion and theft.

But above all, kill the Mongols, and get troops for garrisons to protect against conversion.

Pre-turn:

We're running scientists in a couple of non-corrupt cities with markets and libraries for
no apparent reason. I also switch some production from knights to banks.

Turn 1, 960 AD:

IBT: Incas land a sword, a longbow, a couple of maces and 4 cavalries near Centralia, but the
Aztecs kill a couple of them. Mongols sign a MPP with Korea. Then they proceed to
declare on both Aztecs and Incas.

Turn 2, 970 AD:

We take Newcastle back from Greece with a single AC. Well ok, the Aztecs had weakened their
defense during the last IBT.

IBT: Mongols declare on Greece as well.

Turn 3, 980 AD:

Greece would be willing to sign peace but we have a couple of centuries left on our MAs.
I'm not sure though if breaking those deals would even make any difference? At least the
Aztecs with their infantry are gracious towards us now.

Turn 4, 990 AD:

We get Physics, start on Magnetism which is due in 5 at +126gpt.

Turn 5, 1000 AD:

Not much.

Turn 6, 1010 AD:

Incas are finally willing to negotiate for peace so I go ahead and sign the peace, which
includes us paying 135g and 73gpt for ToG. We're 3 turns away from the IA. We also have extra
spices and ivory, and even though they are only offering 24gpt for them, I figure that's better
than nothing and boosting some of Aztecs' rivals could help us too. The lost WH forces luxury
up to 10%.

Turn 7, 1020 AD:

I'm contemplating on declaring on Mongols again. We have 3 armies on their continent and
their allies, the Koreans, should have their hands full with everyone else. Maybe next turn.

IBT: Greece and Korea sign peace. Aztecs want to have a trade embargo against the Mongols
and I can't see how that could hurt us.

Turn 8, 1030 AD:

IBT: We enter the Industrial Age. I assume we want to get Espionage as soon as possible so next
up is Nationalism, in 9 turns. Korea and Incas sign peace as well.

Turn 9, 1040 AD:

Knowing that the Koreans will declare on us as soon as we declare on Mongols, I try to
renegotiate our peace treaty with them, but apparently they aren't as stupid as I would've
hoped. :) Even 999 gpt won't buy us anything good so I just take their 60gp for renewing the
treaty.

I ask the Mongols if they'd like to declare on us but they rather just move their ships, so
we'll have to declare instead. Some WW shows up but nothing that a few scientists couldn't
fix. A little more lux would prolly do the same trick but scientists seem like a better deal.
And the Koreans of course declare on us.

IBT: Korea declares on Incas again.

Turn 10, 1050 AD:

Bede's Division is leading the siege on Tsetserleg, which soon falls to us. They only had
a musket, a spear and a longbow in the def. I decide to keep it since the Mongols have
almost as weak a culture as we do and they shouldn't last long anyway.

Notes:

- Most of our trebs alongside some troops are loaded in the caravels near Niagara Falls. My
original plan was to land them near Mandalgovi, but I figured I'd let the next player decide
whether to go there or just use them as reinforcements on the Mongol island. The Mongols however
seem to be pretty gassed, they've only thrown an occasional longbow at those few Aztec troops
on their home island. A couple of their galleys turned back as we declared though, so they
could be bringing back a few more units. But I'd expect the armies backed up by those knights
to do the trick.

- I've mostly just been producing buildings, trebs and pikes. I can't see much use for knights,
since even cavalry is going to be pretty outdated when we finally could upgrade them. Trebs
to be upgraded to artillery seem more useful, as do pikes when they turn into rifles.

True, not over yet, but this is definitely the place where my Diety games go downhill as I do not have a good feel for the 0-beaker research tactics. And my war-mongering can always stand to get better.
