How can you tell how many cores a program uses?
Open the task manager. it should tell you there in the graph of core utilization i think

Yeah, its just hard to tell if thats one process though.
What would happen if you had two multi-core-utilization, intensive programs and set each one affinity to different cores. Would it run better than if you had just left them to each try to use multiple cores.

Question:
My friends laptop is not turning on at all. I don't know whether it is a problem with the charger not charging the batery so the laptop is dead or if the laptop itself is broken. I can't test the theory of whether the charger is broken because his laptop has this wierd charger and adapter. Because the school tech desk was monumentally unhelpful, is there anything I can do to try and figure out what is the broken part, or does he just have to take it into the store to have someone look at it?
Can't you try to turn it on while it is plugged in?
I'm still waiting for an answer.Firefox.What browser? So, how do I disable video auto-load? As in, making the embed not appear at all?
This has not been my experience; I even tried taking out the battery of my laptop just now while it's on, this didn't do anything (except to the battery meter).I don't know about all laptops, but with mine it won't work if the battery is out of place, even if it's plugged in.
What do you mean by charger? You can test the AC adapter by using a multimeter to verify that the output voltage matches the spec. This is safe as long as you're dry.Question:

The auto-load is especially irritating when I read a news article on certain news sites and the video auto-loads AND auto-plays.![]()
I do have NoScript, but I dunno if it can specifically target just videos in the manner I'm describing above, without sacrificing the other stuff on the page that I happen to have unblocked.Did try Flashblock? I don't remember if it works on YouTube though. I think they use HTML5 which makes things tricky.
Already tried that, nothing happened.Try removing the battery and re-inserting it, then try turning it on/charging it again.
Thanks. If that doesn't work it looks like my friend will have to take the laptop in because I'm certiantly not taking it apart. What do you mean by charger? You can test the AC adapter by using a multimeter to verify that the output voltage matches the spec. This is safe as long as you're dry.
The second most common problem with a laptop not turning on is a damaged power port (The first is water spilled on it). If you can jiggle the power port with the cord, then that port is likely damaged. You might be able to get the PC to start if you hold it the right way.
Beyond that, you'd need to take the laptop apart to find out more.
