I had it installed, but right before all this trouble happened, Firefox upgraded itself to the latest version (47.0, I believe). I just took a look at my add-ons, and NoSquint is incompatible with the latest Firefox, and has been permanently disabled (the information says it's no longer being maintained).

So I'm investigating other options.

Thank goodness this problem isn't affecting my XP computer. It's driving me nuts on this one (8.1).
 
That's why I linked to NoSquint Plus. See if the new version works for you.

Thank you, but I'm not using Windows 10. I'm using 8.1 and have no plans to change to 10.

This mess only happened with the latest Firefox version. My XP computer wasn't upgraded to that version, and it's okay. Everything looks normal.

NoSquint won't work at all for me, no matter which version.

I bought an XP on purpose, so I could play older games that won't run on 7 and above. Yes, I know there are a bazillion compatibility patches, but I don't understand enough about that to risk mucking things up in a way I wouldn't begin to be able to fix if I did something wrong. And it works for most things I need, with the exception of some videos - they're either really slow or they don't work at all. So I watch those on the 8.1.

Some Big Fish Games members have reported games not working on Windows 10, and since I'm rather attached to those games, I would prefer not to risk them not working.

I'm satisfied with 8.1, and I expect that my next computer will have 10 installed on it.

What I did since my last post was some housekeeping things - checked for malware and viruses, and finally tried a "refresh" of Firefox. While I'm going to have to reinstall my favorite addons, it seems to have worked. I can now use CTRL++ to adjust the sizes, and the distortions between font size and image size appear to be gone. It was getting to the point where I could barely navigate my own email program.

I can live without NoSquint. It was moderately handy, but not something I'll miss.
 
Is it worth installing Win10 on a 6 year old laptop? I'm worried it could cause more problems than it's worth.
 
Does it have an SSD? Win10 (and Win8) are both tuned to run well on low-spec machines due to the proliferation of low-cost tablets (plus Win10 on phones), but it doesn't have to content with HDDs on any of those systems.

If you're keeping the laptop for more than a year, get an SSD, and upgrade to Win10. If not, then it doesn't really matter. Win7 has a bit over three years left, FWIW.
 
Will old drivers work in Windows 10? For whatever reason, the most up-to-date driver for my wifi card doesn't work properly (it causes the wifi connection to drop frequently), and so for years I had purposely stayed with an older, working driver. The problem is that now that I've upgraded to Windows 10, it appears to have automatically updated the driver, and now my wifi is buggered. When I open up the properties for the wifi card, "roll back driver" is blurred out as an option.

Would it be safe to manually install an older driver, or would it likely not be compatible with the new OS?
 
"Good deals" for domains are typically loss leaders. Expect to pay in the $10/yr range in the long-term for any .com domain regardless of registrar.

I switched from namecheap to hover.com a couple years ago. They're big, stable, technically competent, have a solid Canadian presence as part of Tucows, and aren't beholden to copyright monopolists' interests.

For single sites/domains that are being hosted with nearlyfreespeech.net, they're the only webhost that I'd also trust with my domain.
 
Why doesn't Windows 10 detect any other computers on my network? It detects my phone and tablet, but no other computers on the network and it really sucks because I'm trying to connect my linux desktop to my Windows desktop
 
I bought a new laptop. It has something called "Intel HD Graphics" which I believe is the on board graphics. However, the laptop also has an nVidia gpu. So what's the point of the Intel graphics? I can't make sense of why I'm seeing both in the tray.
 
Every Intel processor (minus a Xeon) comes with integrated graphics. Just make sure you're using Nvidia's when you're playing games. This should happen automatically. The point of both in a laptop is to conserve battery by using integrated, low-power solution when you don't need the horsepower.
 
So, it's the last day of the free Windows 10 upgrade. Would people advise it for a typical gaming desktop?
 
Way back in the day, I remember installing Civ III when my computer couldn't run it, if only because it came with an upgraded DX version.
