Crusader Kings 2

Well, hopefully I don't want you to waste your money for nothing. Hopefully that won't happen. :mischief: actually I'm a marketing agent for PI, scamming innocent people into buying CKII

But you do have to be very active in roleplaying if you want some long-lasting re-playability, definitely. CKII isn't a very normal strategy game in that regard, in my opinion. Definitely like anything it is an acquired taste, but I think it's much easier to get into compared to other PI titles - or even some other strategy games, for that matter - if only because of its bigger emphasis on personal interaction (I like to think of it like the Sims). It's much easier to understand and relate to "lol my brother's being a douchebag to me, how shall I get him out of the way?" as opposed to [insert some convoluted min-maxing strategy thingyamajiggy].

Legacy of Rome, feature-wise, adds in retinues (which are... I think they're basically the closest you can get to a professional army in-game, although I haven't really used them) as well as some flavor events and elements for the Byzantine Empire. Most of the meaty stuff was released in the patch alongside LoR - which is a nice thing about CKII, most of the new features are given in patches rather than the major DLC.

As for the aesethic stuff the ones I think are the most important would be the portraits, as they really help with immersion - given that this is a game about characters, it helps when there's more variety and your Mongols don't look like Hindus. The other aesethic stuff you can just get if you want to, I don't think they're as necessary as the portrait packs - you may want to sample the music on youtube if you want to see if you like any of that.

cybrxkhan is a good PI marketing agent!

Joecoolyo, I'd try the demo as a larger nation or someone about to inherit one, too. I found that playing as the Doukas heir was a lot of fun, particularly after becoming Emperor. The Seljuk war itself wasn't that dramatic, but the unruly vassals were actually quite fun, if scary.

He's such a good PI marketing agent I caved and I bought it

And having a bit more breathing room is making this game so much more fun. I'm having a blast trying to get my tiny Irish dynasty onto the throne of absurdly far away empires (along with uniting Ireland). I'm so close to getting a relative of mine onto the Byzantine throne, but Byzantium decided to collapse into civil war about a year or two after he was named the heir, so I have no idea how that's going to to turn out. If that fails, at least my dynasty is now in charge of the Duchy of Thrace. Go Ua Cheinnselaig! An Irish Byzantium is almost here!

I recently picked up what DLC I didn't have for CK2 during that 75% off sale. I haven't played in a long time and I'll have to catch up to the new features/changes.

started new game as king of Bavaria in HRE. Some dudes from Ireland of 2 different great houses took Jerusalem and Egypt AND expand their territories. Catholics are doing very well this game....

Sorry if it's already written somewhere in the thread but I just bought this game and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good tutorials on youtube since the ingame tutorials seem to be bugged (WTH).

Assassinations are useful, especilly when people want to declare independence. This is especilly for Republics as victory for the independence movements equal new rival republics, especilly I went through the process of removing the rival republics of Genoa and Venice.

Pisa must be one!

Well they are not necessarily bugged, but they only explain basic things and not the effects/relations with other features.

THere are the tutorial guides from tekktavern on youtube. And he has a long playthrough with slavonia (about 90vids)

Also, there is the indepth guide on the paradox forum

Just found out Andalusia can't into Hispania...

I feel lost.

I've had this game for 4 days and I already have 19 hours put into it

what have you people done to me

Muahahaha! :assimilate:

Andalusia by itself can't turn into Hispania. You have to own at least 80% of the de jure counties (which means Andalusia plus some), and you have to be of the correct culture - either Andalusian or Iberian. Granada, by the way, is Maghreb by default (not Andalusian). There may be a few other Muslim rulers in the 1066 start in Andalusia who are Maghreb culture.

Just finished up my old Count of Auxerre -> Duke of Burgundy -> King of Burgundy -> several kingdoms -> Empire of Francia game. Load of fun, ended up with everything in France proper except Normandy and part of Flanders, and extended into Baden, the Netherlands, and Corsica. A last-minute claim and war on the King of Norway netted me the Kingdom of Sicily, Norway, Iceland, parts of Sweden, and Mecklenburg as well (Norway was effing huge).

Now that I don't have any loose games to wrap up, is it worth buying and installing the Republic expansion now? I'm going to skip that Aztec thing entirely and I'm only playing with the first two DLCs now. Or did I miss a cheap opportunity to get the Republic DLC?

You did miss a cheap opportunity to get the Republic. I think Amazon had CKII and ALL of its DLC for $10 a few weeks ago ($5 if you had some promotional bonus they gave out with some games during the holiday sales).

I dunno whether the Republic is worth it or not - I've heard it gets pretty easy in vanilla as you just start @#$%ing gold like there's no tomorrow once you get the hang of it, though the flavor events (particularly the dynastic feuds) are very nice and immersive.

Republic was full price during the Steam Linux sale

Republic went 75% off for like 1 day at the end of the sale I think. The rest of the DLC and the main game was 75% off for the entire sale.

Oh well, guess I'll wait for it to go on sale again. In the meantime, I've never played a Muslim and I think my direct handling of Spain will result in a non-HRE Hispania, so I've got games to try.
