it's a pretty satisfying feeling when you start as a random dude and become greater than the capetian dynasty, as i did with raimbaud afranje.
For a first game, that seems like a pretty successful start. MV is right on score, but I would add that it's also a time thing. If you start from the earliest time points, it will be quite easy to accumulate enough titles to break 100k score by the end of the game in the 15th century. If you start in the High Middle Ages, it will be nearly impossible for a count or a weak duke to build a dynasty that accumulates that kind of power in such a short time period.
If you are looking to maximize score, try to marry your heirs to countesses and duchesses so that you inherit the lands in the next generation (accumulating more titles). Also, be on the lookout for when you can fight holy wars, especially against weakened Muslim powers in the area (or independent small Muslim states). You can grab a lot of territory quickly with that CB. Also, favor prestige-boosting event options as they come along.
Eventually, you might want to make a play for the Imperial title. You can do that via a faction if you have good relations with other dukes and they will back you, or you can try to marry into the imperial family so that you inherit a claim on the throne. Then it's just a bloody civil war away!
I haven't gotten CM yet buut the impression I'm getting is the patch stuff and non-timeline related stuff is more interested than the Charlemagne start date itself, which confirms my initial suspicions that 1) the new start date was just the (understandable) excuse for the devs to have something to market, and 2) the devs really needed to market the expansion better, the way they released information this time around was confusing and it was harder for me to figured out what Charlemagne was all about until close to the end, but eh whatever.
Well, I suppose besides the Abbasids another complaint I've heard are the weird culture choices the devs made, though this happened before release - stuff like having the three (kinda nonsensical) Proto-Russian cultures and having Visigoths and Suebi in two separate culture groups.
^ Thanks for the advice (for you both who answered)!
It is awesome how good the game is at telling stories. For example, here is a tiny part from my game: Ioannes Komnenos of Armeniacon and several other duchies dies and his oldest son Manuel takes over. Manuel's little brother Isaakios uses intrigue and kills his brother (that's tough) and gets the other titles except Doux of Armeniacon which belongs to Manuel's son Ioannes Jr. I get a Casus Belli against Ioannes Jr and claim half of Armeniacon from the child-duke. Also Isaakios decides he could still keep punishing Manuel's family and he claims the western Armeniacon but Ionnes controls it as his vassal now. Now Ioannes dies to "smallpox" and his younger brother Orestes takes over. I DoW at Isaakios for freedom of Orestes and I win. Now Orestes, Doux of Armeniacon is free and I have Casus Belli against him through diplomacy. After the last war he has only under 1000 men and you probably guess if he is going to be my vassal or get defeated.
So in 20 game years all that has happened and the tragedy of family Komnenos is only a small part of my game. Amazing! Brothers assassinating each other, child rulers getting defeated and everything... I hope that I won't get bad Karma in the game now as I take over Armeniacon.
Btw, I have 2 guestions:
1) I don't know how to change succession laws.. I have gavelkind now and I'm afraid there's a reason why I can't change this..
2)How to give your own counties to a vassal? Could I for example gift a county to my son? I have demesne 3/3 so I need this info... I also have a friend as a vassal and I could also give a county to his family as I trust my loyal vassal family Harpootlian.
Thanks

There needs to be a mechanic for Muslim empires to be fun to play. decadence is crap.
Muslims look so unfun to play, and they have all those goddamn broken CBs too. Eat a freaking kingdom every generation jesus christ.
"Hey is that your kingdom? Mind if I take it?"
"Would you like to take a moment to hear about our lord and emperor Abbasid?"
I find playing for the stories is much more fun than score maximization. Either is a fine way to play, I just prefer the former. I mean, I eventually take titles, and any guy I have with the ambitious trait is definitely going for at least a king title, if not an imperial one.
The tooltip that appears over succession laws on your title screen should tell you the requirements for changing them. First, your current vassals must have a positive opinion of you, that can be achieved by granting titles, using your chancellor to boost relations, givingbribes"gifts" of gold, fighting for their claims, and so on. Generally, they also require increased crown authority, which you can only control at the king or imperial level. If you want primogeniture instead of gavelkind, make sure to vote for it when your ruler asks you to do so, and don't join any factions to reduce crown authority. I think there are additional centralization requirements for some through the most recent patch, I'm not as familiar with those requirements yet. In any case, your ability to set policy is limited as a duke.
To give titles to a courtier, select the character and go to the diplomacy screen for them. You can see your court if you click on your character portrait and then look for it at the bottom of the screen. Alternatively, if you want to build up a landed family, click on their county and access it that way. It's under "Grant Landed Titles" or something like that. You can also "Transfer Vassalage" to put a bunch of already-granted counts under a duke, for example.
You have lowered crown authority. No wonder you can't install Seniority because that need Medium Crown Authority.
Emperor's son is the husband of my daughter. Emperor's sister was the wife of my heir but she died very young so now my heir is married with my wife's brother's daughter. Also my granddaughter is married with that brother of my wife and she is like 18 and the brother is like 60... Is it a bad thing to arrange marriages like this? I mean, is it bad to accidentally marry your granddaughter to her half-mother's papa? It's great to have crown authority when you are the emperor.![]()
