Crusader Kings 2

The regent in question lasted about a year before being replaced.

His stats were not that much worse than my current character's father's.

Spoiler :
Hello everyone!

Today is Tuesday and that means it’s time for another fascinating Developer Diary. My name is Divine and I’ve been part of the Crusader Kings team since last autumn as a scripter and now I’m going to tell you about some of the events that we’ve been working on for the soon-to-be-released expansion, Horse Lords!

If you control a part of the Silk Road you can now build trade posts to make sure to get some of the riches that is traveling along the route. However, there might be more people who want a share of the wealth, so you’ll probably have to guard your treasure chests. There’s also a possibility to gain the help of a trade governor who might attract more traders and riches to your land... or his mishaps might prove to be more of a headache for you to cope with.

As mentioned in a previous dev diary, rulers on the Steppe can send out their sons and brothers to take up arms and become mercenaries. The life of a mercenary, though, is a harsh one and a lot of things can happen when you’re out adventuring in a foreign court; so we’ve added some events about various things that can occur for the captain of such a created mercenary band.

For instance, the Mercenary Captain, being on the field fighting for a living, has a chance to improve his military education trait to one of the stronger ones. These mercenaries also get a few events to interact with their employer or the ruler of the province they are hanging out in. One of these events is for instance eloping with a person of the employer’s court. It can be a daughter, son or a skilled courtier.

Since the Mercenary Captain is earning his keep from being hired he also gets some choices on what to spend it on. For example, improving his Band of Mercenaries or spend it all on women and vice.

A ruler of the Steppe was not much of a ruler unless his clan had a thriving herd of livestock to support them. Thus, it is only natural that we needed to have some events about horses! If you’re living on the Steppes as a nomad, you can now adopt a favorite war horse. There are some events associated with having a horse and what you do together with it - both ordinary and unusual happenings.

So that’s a little sneak peek of the things that can happen on the wide Steppes and everything I had to say for today. I hope you are all hyped for the upcoming expansion that is now just a week away!

Oh! And I might actually have heard legends about certain altaic families behaving in odd ways lately… with hideous faces and beast-like behavior.

Other stuff mentioned by devs in the ad:

Nomads clans can seize single counties off each other internally if they are feuding. They also have a duchy level subjugation CB against external realms (costs 300 Prestige), normal county conquest, subjugation (much like tribal subjugation) against non-nomads. Oh and the most powerful of all is a type of invasion CB that requires the Nomad Clan to be approaching overpopulation.

[Elopers] become lovers, flee from your realm and you become rival with the mercenary captain (meaning you can't hire him anymore to get him back to your realm) and your daughter/son should stay in the court of the mercenary.

It also means if you are the mercenary captain's father that you might get a son come home with exotic girlfriends from all around the world.

Paradox keep making references to werebears, but I have no idea how that started.

They exercised their right to bear arms.

I have to wonder if they will feature in a future dlc... such as a myths/legends one people hypothesize about all the time.

Honestly I might buy Horselords full price. It looks super goddamn fun.

I have a long unfinished game, and one I just started up again. I might hold until I can finish those, but given my slow play it will take ages.

So Horse Lords is out, anybody gonna buy it now?

This is probably the first major expansion since SoI I won't buy on day 1 most likely, even if it includes stuff I'm interested in, I'm not really playing much CKII at the moment and there's no point in buying something I won't play for at least a week or so.

Anyways, for anyone who cares PI is holding a sale on the PI store for a number of CKII stuff. GMG will probably have a 20-25% discount voucher available for Horse Lords too.

I won't, but then I haven't played in a long while. I probably will when I start playing again.

Sometimes we arrive at a point in the game where it becomes somewhat easy, with no challenge at all. Or that's what I thought.

My genius roman emperor had just one son, also a genius. Then, he had a son too. Grandson born, sucession secured, everything ok... But then, my son died at his early twenties, and soon I died too. The 8 year old non genius Emperor took the throne, but hey, dont worry, mom is the regent, everything safe...

She is replaced. New regent bring my crown authority from high to autonomous vassals... In two months, a century of work was undone. Then, I had to fight two independency wars, that I won by depleting all of my money. This cant get any worse, right? OH NO JIHAD DECLARED! Just throusands of angry muslims coming to take my lands... But hey, I have one last trick! My retinue of 9000 cataphracts, plus the varangian guards and 30000 of local vassals troops stand ready for war! I wait them at Taron, near Manzikert and... OH CRAP 50000 enemies attacked my army, but we are at mountain terrain and they are crossing a river... Battle lost. Army utterly destroyed. History repeats itself, it seems.

At least it was fun!

How the hell can the AI decrease CA three levels? That's goddamn broken.

The regent decided that it was a good idea to join 3 low crown authority factions and enforce then all. Faction created, regent joins, they win. Another faction, regent joins, and so on.

Btw, I managed to win the jihad, and now crown authority is raising slowly. Seljuks are about to arrive, I just hope to not have any regencies anymore :D

Also, sometimes a regent wont let me give away vice-royalties, so I get over my vassal limit after 2-3 exarchs die. Plus, lots of angry feudal dukes under my control, feeding those nasty factions. Thats why I love the all vice-royalty roman game.

That's really goddamn stupid. March into Johan's office and complain.

And while you're there, bring EU4 regencies up to and how they add literally nothing to the game.
