I mean us being such outliers globally.
Only with regards exclusively to military IMO, and even that is going to gradually decline for a number of reasons:
1) The world (both the non-American world and even the Americans themselves to a somewhat lesser extent) are sick and tired of the American foreign policy of trying to control other countries... no, this is not just limited to Iraq and Afghanistan. Many, many countries are more or less puppets of the American government, but there is going to be less and less of this in the future. Many countries are seen as 'anti-american' simply because they are NOT puppets. For example, Cuba.
2) The American national debt means we're going to have to make cuts across the board, and yes, this includes military spending. America spends as much as like the next 10 countries combined on 'defense' (more like attack), and this is obviously going to have to decline. Reason 1) amplifies this even more.
There's no doubt in my mind that at the current point in time we're in more 'control' (at least direct control) than China but it will change fast... let's not forget that we're in billions (or is it trillions) of debt to them. China's power is growing, and our power is shrinking. Considering China's population, they don't even have to match is on a per-capita basis. If the average Chinese ever gets to be HALF as 'productive' (more like privileged) as the average American, they're ahead of us.
Australia is close geographically to China to feel this presence, and it will only grow stronger in time.
