D'Artagnan01: Low-level Training Day

I may be able to play this tomorrow evening.

I've spotted an advantageous situation for us: Korea has Espionage, and an MPP with Ragnor. I propose to offer whatever gpt Korea wants for Espionage, then gift Dover to Ragnor. I then propose to take back Dover (all in the same turn), triggering the MPP. Result? We get Espionage for free, and a phoney war against two lame Civs.

Do I have the team's consent?

To my way of thinking that is a less than honorable ploy, dastardly indeed. And pointless.

Besides Korea still has a role to play as the only Scientific nation in the game. We should own enough industrial tech that we can use to our advantage at the Age Change to gift them up and then buy their free tech. Much better play, I think.

Sorta like going to a family reunion to get a date.

Short term benefit; long term regret.

However I do see a bright side.

You had an idea and were wise enough to ask for advice. :goodjob:

Indeed. This is a training game, the idea being to learn; I'm afraid I'm like my three year old daughter, pushing at boundaries in order to learn the 'rules'. So please excuse my apparent moral turpitude.

Not so much about the "rules", as about "looking at the bigger picture". That would be a nice ploy if this were SID and you really, really needed Espionage to steal your way to parity. At Emperor and when there is nothing out there to justify the aggro, why bother?

It is a dastardly ploy indeed, though sometimes being dastardly is the way to save the bacon from frying too crisply.

Yes, yes. Just one problem, do you want me to kill the English or make peace ASAP. The first would require a bit of gold input, the second would allow us to attack somebody else, most likely the Iroquois.

We can just rush troops Turn -1 and then on Turn 0 make peace. Turn 1 more rushing. And Turn 2 is war! We have a lot of gold for the second option too.

I think I have created a monster here by letting slip the dogs of war. The primary reason to fight a war is to control an important resource, and we already control the two needed for this age (oil and rubber), so let's wait for the next important one (Uranium/Aluminium) before committing the troops.

Alright. Bede's statement makes sense.

@D'artagntan: I'll send the troops but won't rush for Oxford, it'll be annoying to upkeep and improve, so unless I am so unlucky as to have a resource there in the future (that we need), then I believe that sending the troops makes sense. But at least, I'll cancel the military alliance and MPP with the Iro's. Don't want another war (not caused by us) if possible.

I can't believe I'm taking so long. I can do this! I can do this, hopefully by Friday. I'm so slow....

EDIT: Sorry, guys but I think I'm going to have to leave this SG. Mostly, this is because I have little time for playing and little interest in a game that really isn't mine. I'm not leaving the forums though, if you care to know.

:( Now that's a bummer, Tribute. Hope you had fun while you were here.

Now it's up to the Greek Stalllion to get her done!

* Bede
* D'Artagnan59 - just played
* Tribute - out
* Bucephalus - UP!
* CommandoBob - on deck

Okay, my Civ-load is quite light at the moment.
