It works!
I just followed Lone Wolfs installation instruction for VD 9.2 and needed to update the VD_CIV4CivilizationInfos.xml with your modded CIV4CivilizationInfos.xml through WinMerge. Took me 10 Minutes. :D

Tip: merge ArtDefines_Units XML as well, otherwise you'll experiences crashes mid-game (medcannon entry). It's the non-modular part of RFC VD.

That's good to know! :)

Awesome!! Leoreth can you add VD units to your next patch, because it's pretty much the only reason why I still play regular RFC.

Optional VD would be a very good idea. I like unique looking units beyond just the UU, but sometimes I'd like my game not to take minutes and minutes in between turns. That's what RFC:E is for.

Is VD really slowing your game down? It really shouldn't. Anyway, maybe I can release a compatible optional VD package the next days.

As far as I can tell, it is for me. I can only run Civ IV on my old desktop these days. That thing is on the verge of death too.

That is VERY strange indeed, and really should not happen. I mean it's not as if the computer needs to calculate something new each turn, it's just new unit art

Yes, technically... you have to consider resources, however. Instead of loading a small group of graphics an X amount of times, the game will be loading all currently used unit graphics for all currently used civilizations. That's almost as if each unit was individual because it uses way, way more files simultaneously.
The heavy structure of Civ4 and VD are few main reasons why my computer, a laptop, is almost allergic to Civ nowadays. :/ I haven't been able to actually *play* Civilization for few years now.

So, I second making VD an optional inclusion. (And a possible disclaimer, but people should be allowed to make mistakes I think)

Also, custom units usually have higher polycounts than standard ones. I think avain took quite a few steps to lower the polycount, but still. Besides, it also takes longer for the game to load the artwork when booting up.

A few polygons can make quite a difference when you remember that the unit comes in groups of three, and there are often hundreds and hundreds of units (if not thousands) of units in play, especially towards the end of the game.

Hello. My first post on the forum! Had to create an account just for this one post...

So... I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned this before, but I noticed a bug with the ''stability penalty due to transition to democracy''. I got that on 1850 and the same message kept going on for about 120 years and I had the stability penalty until I won a space race victory. That seems like an awfully long time, doesn't it?

I was playing an epic monarch game on England. Unfortunately, I haven't got a save nor even a screenshot of it.

I'd hope the clap isn't mandatory :mischief:

But on a serious note, does VD add skins for EVERY civilization and unit? If so, and pray tell it's not as buggy as I've read, I'll give it a try.

Almost. Their are a few units which don't have been done (yet). And of course the "normal" version of the UU. (eg. there isn't a Roman Swordsman)

I also have noticed the same thing in my recent game as Japan, I even switched from the other 'Democratic Civic' to try to not get the instability penalty.

That's bad, I thought I finally fixed it with a last version or its precursor. I've noted the problem.

The Byzantine spawn doesn't quite work (I'm not sure if it's even supposed to work yet..). I played with Greece and there was a Byzantine civilization but it only lasted for a few turns before collapsing without any notice. No units spawned at all and no cities flipped.

Yeah, the current SVN version is all but stable, and I don't work at it atm because of all that Christmas repercussions.

While attending french history i've thought on a nouvelle unique power for France. seeing as though you've already altered the goals and the UU, eh

During revolutions there is no permanent stability diminution (-3 or something), and one is given free troops correspondant to the era, when unstable. Enabled after it's discovered eg. constitution or liberalisme or something.

That's a really good idea ... maybe instead of free troops, they can get extra drafts when unstable?
