I have 4 dlc civs, polynesia, babylon, inca and spain. I have played a lot of them, and i found them worth the full price. For scenarios I love the polynesia one, but i dont like spain&inca scenario. During the sales I am going to buy Korea&wonders and denmark&explorer's. They cost less than 1 normal-priced dlc, so that sound like a good deal to me.

I am wondering are those maps (asia, mediterranean) worth buying. I guess I could do one by myself.

I bought every one as soon as it came out. The full price is about what I might spend on a cheap CD or DVD and in terms of what they add to the game for me, someone who values variety in AI opponents as well as a wider range of Civs to play, it's definitely been worth it.

I wasn't impressed with the DLC model when it first came out but I've come to appreciate it, possibly even more than the expansion model now. It's like being drip-fed an expansion pack.

I still think the DLCs are overpriced. Just think of it: you spend over $50 for half the content that should've been in the vanilla game in the first place! As asinine as it sounds, I went and bought every DLC released thus far, and it's okay... I still think the DLC civs are overpowered (Babylon, anyone?), so that should be worth the price of admission.

That is a two edged sword since if you have the DLC and aren't playing a given civ, one of the AIs might be.

But it turns out the AI seems to have no concept on how to play Babylon. It's much better when it plays Korea.
And sometimes the AI lucks out with Spain [when AI Spain spawns near the Deep Sea Rift and so gets 2X first in the world discovery].

But other than that, the AI doesn't seem good at playing the DLC civs.

I bought the GoTY edition at reduced price, and then later got the Korea+Wonders DLC at normal price after reading a lot about Korean strategies. I am happy with both of my decisions, but would suggest to anyone buying the game to get DLC's when they are on sale and not at full price. That said, I'm probably going to buy the expansion at full price.
I've never noticed a difference in AI success when playing vanilla or DLC civilizations. It nearly always conforms to the same patterns regardless of civilization.

The Civs are worth the price, the map scripts are worth it if bundled, the fixed maps are overpriced.

Did any of them improve the AI? That's all that really matters to me... and I'm pretty sure the answer is no.

I think the DLC Civs and map scripts are only worth it when on sale. I don't think the preset maps are worth it at all.

I'm not saying they're not worth buying, but I don't have any of them.I've just never looked into them that much and am just content with the ones I have.

There are a couple of ways you can look at the price.

On the one hand, you could look at $5 compared to the price of the entire game, and realise that a a civ and scenario isn't quite the same value for money.

On the other, you could look at what else you would do with that $5. If you want to buy a bottle of Coke anywhere in Sydney it will cost you at least $3.80. Yet I'm sure I'd get far more value out of the DLC than that one bottle of Coke with its exhaustible supply of refreshing goodness.

I hadn't bought any DLC before.
This weekend I took advantage of the 75%-off sale price and bought all the DLC for about $10.
To me this is a very fair price to pay, even if I never play any of the DLC.
I figure I'm rewarding all the developers just a little bit more for all the hundreds/thousands! of hours I've already enjoyed playing vanilla Civ5.
For me, the $60 initial investment, plus the $10 now, is incredible value.

That's not what DLC is for, that's what patches are for. You really want to pay money for AI improvements? How would that work? If you're playing in multiplayer with someone who didn't pay for the AI improvements, you have to turn it off and play with the old AI (although it appears the AI does go into a coma in multiplayer anyway, but that's not the point). My point is DLC is for new art, not for code changes.

Do the scenario packs stay in a particular local and time period?

Do they provide a shorter game?

I just bought all the DLCs except map packs, due to the -75% offer. I think a few more civs are worth this price, but not their normal price.

Do the scenario packs stay in a particular local and time period?
Yes, depending on the particular scenario
Do they provide a shorter game?
Yes... iirc most, if not all, last about 100 turns.

I would strongly recommend the new Civs, the Scenarios and the map packs... all are well worth it.

I personally find them slightly overpriced. I'd be happy to pay £3 for a civ+scenario but they are usually £3.50. The bundles (Denmark+Explorers, Korea+WotAW, Spain+Inca) are priced ok but as I've been lacking in time to play I generally wait for a sale anyway.

The maps are by far the most worthless bits of DLC Civ V has to offer. I payed 2 euros for them and I feel robbed.

The rest are ok, but I only bought them when discounted and I'm not sure I would have appreciated them at the regular price.

I don't play the game obsessively, though. I have something like 50 hours in it. If I'd be playing more, like some people on this forum do, the DLC civs and scenarios would have been worth the regular price (the map packs would still have not been worth it...).

I bought the Babylon and Denmark/explorer map pack DLC on sale Memorial weekend. It's a good deal at that price, but I don't think $5 just for another civ is so good. Just my two cents.
