DMAW04 - A Testing War

Oops, sorry guys about the save - I always forget....I'm not at my BtS computer, so I'll do that in a few hours. Thanks for the compliments! I guess I should note that we lost 2 axes and 1 catapult during the turnset - very little compared to what the AI lost...

As for the east, yes, when the west is solid enough we have enough cats to bring it down. There's just too much happening from the west for us to deal completely with the east.

And no, I didn't switch to Rep - mainly since I just built the Pyramids, and wanted to let us decide that here.

Representation is a no-brainer, isn't it? I didn't look at the save, but I suppose that once we get a couple of catapults in place it should be easy to destroy Zara. I'd like to keep Aksum.

OK, just to let you know, I have uploaded the save (sorry again!).
Would a pillaging stack be worth it through western enemy lands to gain more money? When the war with Zara is finished, probably.

Good set of turns, James! :goodjob: A comment about the report, though. In the future, you should trim your screenshots down to 800x600 pixels. It makes it really hard to read the reports when you have to scroll right to left. Other than that, an excellent report.

As for the economy, have we researched Currency, yet? I know we've talked about it, but I don't recall reading that in any reports.

Conroe, are you able to get to this in the next couple of days?
Well, if I take a skip in OB04, I probably could. :mischief: Although I should probably confine my delays to one game and take the skip in this one. Next week should be much better for me ...

OK, I think that means you want a skip here . Assuming that's the case, yena you're UP.

Got it for tomorrow. I will change to representation, and destroy Ethiopia if at all possible.

Zara is dead!

215: Lots of MM to get Priesthood in 2 turns instead of 19, and generate some cash. Whipping a catapult for the assult on Aksum
216: Whipping another catapult. Moving a couple of immortals into Ethopian territory.
217: A great opportunity! Zara is foolishly moving a settler and two archers in range of my immortals. They die.

218: Zara kills one of the immortals with his last axeman, who promptly is slaughtered in the open. Only three archers left. My stack, including 2 catapults, advancing on Aksum
219: Switch to representation to get the anarchy while lots of troops are in enemy territory, costing extra unit support.
220: Killing an Arabian swordsman and archers without loses.
221: All out attack on Aksum. I lost both catapults (suicide attacks) and 2 axes, but Aksum falls and the Ethiopians are no more. RIP :king:

222: Gems connected.
aw07.jpg

I discover a big Arabian stack.

223: The stack is destroyed, but my troops are wounded and retreat.
224: A German galley is heading south. Keep an eye on it.
225: An Arabian axe is chasing my wounded stack. It will enter the gems tile on the next turn and should be easy to kill once it is out in the open. The veterans from the Ethiopian war are heading south to reinforce the western front.

We have a GG who I can't decide what to do with. At the moment all cities should concentrate on growing and working cottages, but the GG could be settled in a future production city.

In a few turns Aksum's borders will expand. Be sure to work the gold mine at once, so that we can increase the research slider.

Excellent turns, yena :goodjob:

I've got it for tonite then.

That's an excellent turnset! Now we can concentrate on the western front, which is going to be a challenge. So, that's 3 civs conquered so far? Nice. To help us research currency sooner, and to increase the gold in our vault, how about some pillaging in the west soon?

Yes, we have to break out and do some damage to the opposition soon. I'm a bit worried that they will get a tech lead that will be hard to handle otherwise. The money from pillaging and razing wouldn't hurt either. Once the troops from our eastern provinces come to the front line we should have the numbers needed to come out and have some fun

I've played and will report tonite. Sorry for the delay.

The GG is useless just sitting around, so I decided to settle him where he's at.

A barb town spawned in our midst. If we want to keep it, let it grow to 2 and then take it.

I was just getting ready our SOD getting ready to dish out some punishment when this happened.

Civ4ScreenShot0002-8.jpg

Spawned a GS at Persepolis. I left him there for now, but suggest building an academy there.

Currency came in and I went for CoL next.

Civ4ScreenShot0003-8.jpg

Cleaned up the first stack loosing a pult to bad RNG.

On the very next turn, the others formed another stack on our gems.

Had to suicide 2 pults before I can take that phant.

Here's our stack outside Ecbatana.

Maybe let them heal for a couple of turns and they'll be ready to dish out some hurt. The only cities (Persepolis and Beijing) generating enough income for markets to be worthwhile are building markets.

Am I reading that last screenshot (of the SOD) correctly? We have only a single Spearman? I'd say we need at least another spear or two in that SOD if they've got pachyderms running around.

Also, how bad do we need the commerce from the gems tile? If we can live without it, a fort might be better. We'd lose the commerce, but keep the happiness. And it would make the tile a little easier to defend, considering its choke location.

Woof woof woof!

Good point.

Not sure we can afforfd to be without the coins at this stage. We could do it one tile closer to home (where the ruins are now and risk the gems being pillaged) or wait for a border expansion and build 2 next to the gems.
