DMI XI - Hyborem's Whisper (FfH2)

lurker's comment: The problem on that difficulty is, of course, getting to Infernal Pact before anyone else. But you could start on, say, Emperor, switch to Hyborem, then immediately use a Worldbuilder save to switch to Deity. WB saves mess a lot of stuff up, but, if you've just started as Hyborem, most of those (resetting Great People, research, production) won't be issues, at least for the human (although it will cause some problems for the AIs).

i regularly play on deity, i don't think it should be that much of a problem. with the major boosts to hyborem you don't need to detour anymore and can go straight. it may be still possible for some dedicated dark elves to beat you but with the help of a great scientist i don't think so.

i played my turns and was aghast of our empire. a few points:

- you don't need an army of 50+ units. hyborem and rosier do a very good job together, have a few elite forces by their side and some more for a second stack and there you go.
we have a ton of useless troops that are not even used as defenders.

- think about your promotions. hyborem without march? all the troops without mobility? there is no real concept about the promotions in this game.

- civics. we have turn 270 and not researched guilds. we have not even adopted scholarship and city states which we are capable of.
instead of researching 600 beakers with -150g/turn we have now +150g/turn with 1600 beakers.
hyborem lives and dies with his capital. add all manes there and, for demons sake, adopt a civic that allows citizens to be something else then mere workers!
i have used a GP for a golden age to switch civics again - i wasted two turns as we had no GP available and i thought we would have had our golden age already.

- feudalism. very important tech as it enables vassal states. i think it would have been easy to vassalize flauros etc, making it a bit easier to advance.

- mardero. just another hero we could have build much earlier.

- war. we can have war with everybody. i thus declared on everybody.

we are at war with the barbarians. take care of the apocalyptic riders. the first one is near our holy city, two beasts of argares are deployed there to take care of him.

our attack forces are deployed to the west, the doviello are no threat. arendel has been killed, flauros is being mopped up by our vassal einon logos.

happy mop-up, and take care about our heroes not being killed by the riders.

@slowcar:

You're right of course, but I don't think it was crucial - we're in wrap-up mode anyway. Nonetheless thanks for correcting stuff and pointing it out ! :) The reverend and Ralph should be back now...

The Roster:

1. Imhotep
2. reverend_oats >> UP NOW
3. Ralph Jackson >> ON DECK

4. JayThomas
5. Ozbenno
6. slowcar >> JUST PLAYED

slightly OT:
i just played a deity hyborem game. despite some lucky huts it took some time. i had a struggling start against jonas endain with hyborem, lost all my troops and hyborems immortality but managed to get back. these tiger summoning priests sure are annoying at this level. got Dis to size 150 and the holy city to 70 when domination came in.
if we pay a bit more attention to micromanagement we should try it - even if we may loose. deity w/o building reqs is still difficult :)

@slowcar; I'm surprised you could research fast enough to beat everyone to AV and IP.

Good points above. I hadn't realized yet that Hyborem was such a one demon wrecking crew.

A diety challenge though, hmmmm

Hmmm, I can't open the save.
I start up Civ4, click on "load game," and choose the correct save. The "the game will have to restart to load this mod" message came up, like always. BTS shut down and the FFH start screen came up. However, once the bar was filled up and the small screen closed, nothing happened. I tried this several times and nothing changed.
Any ideas?

@reverend:

You do have BtS 3.17 + FfH 0.32 patch "i" installed ?

Oh dear. I misread and thought I was meant to use patch "l." :blush:
I guess I have to drop out, and just as we were kickin some serious @ss. Ahh well, this will only last 1-2 more turnsets anyway. :(

@reverend:

No, you can just re-install patch "i" and play your set. After that you can install patch "l" just fine and go from there. Works fine for Ozbenno and myself...

Oh, great. But may I have another 24 hrs then, please?

At long last, my turnset.

Conquered some cities, researched some techs, built some wonders, and killed a couple Horsemen.
Couldn't get to Flauros due to Sanctuary, but took the Illians to one city and the Doveillo to 2. Lost a city to a Bubeos, but killed Yersirna and Stephanos.
Oh, and won by domination. :cool:

No save since the beginning of my set, though, as this came out of the blue.

Nicely finished Reverend Oats.

Ralph

Good job. However, I feel it is my duty to inform you...

Spoiler :
Victory Conditions: All available, but only Conquest counts, the AC must be at 100 at the winning turn. ;)

Actually I'm glad reverend didn't notice the condition. It was there more for fun than anything else, so for myself I consider this game a win of course. The reason I'm glad the game ended is not the team - we played not that bad - but the fact I can now move on to the next SG. I will not play another Hyborem SG, but will get to another Civ. The candidates are the Khazad and the Elohim, look out for the game this week.

Thanks for participating in the Hyborem game :) !
