Do you like watching people get hurt/killed (in the movies)?

I notice in modern action movies there are a lot of scenes of innocent people getting hit, shot, runover, knocked thru glass, etc. sometimes in ways that seem to be attempts at humour (on the part of the director).

Do you enjoy watching that sort of thing?

I must admit I enjoy seeing some destruction, specifically cars and trucks smashed, but I don't usually enjoy seeing random people getting slammed around. More so since '00 when I got hit by a car myself.

Never thought much about violence in the movies when I was younger but it does seem to be extremely overdone. A reminder of why I like more intelligent movies (no offense to action fans, I've been known to enjoy an occasional viewing of action films like Total Recall).

Any thoughts on this?

I do enjoy massive amounts of violence - oh yes

It probably saves me taking an AK to class and gunning down all the stupid people who think that liberalism is just half-way between capitalism and communism

For some reason I get really mad at stupid action movie fight scenes that make it seem like karate is some sort of amazing fighting style that lets you take on tons of people... couldn't be further from the truth

Heh, I love that. It's so funny. I like silly action movies.

Only when they were shown with tongue in cheek. I dont seem to appreciate shows like Final Destination or Saw with sadistic plots and scenes. Im ok with HotShot 2 thou.

On the record, I'd just like to let you know that I never thought liberalism was only half way between capitalism and communism. :p

i used to like that stuff as a kid. now i realize how unrealistic and full of crap they are, not to mention the plot usually has huge holes in it.

and the realisitc ones (like black hawk down) are so damn boring, id rather watch paint dry.

but yes, violence is fun.

Can you give examples? Most studio flims go out of their way to make sure you know that those on the losing end of violence either a) "deserve" it b) are okay afterwards or c) will be avenged.

It's one of the annoying bits of studio filmmaking, really . . .

Oh yes. The more the better. But not the kinds you people described.

I prefer huge battle scenes where hundreds of thousands die..., or a city being sacked, burnt and looted..., or a nuke going off...

Heh, I thought that this had something to do with a research (brain activity research while subjects were watching violent videos) that I read about recently.

It appears that when people see violence done on people they know, they are horrified and dismayed.

It seems that women are also horrified and dismayed when they see violence done on strangers.

However, when men watch videos of violence done to strangers, the pleasure centers in their brains activate...

That's prolly why men like action movies more than women do...

Movies speaking? If you mean action movies, horror movies then i have no problem watching this because i know this is not true and often far from reality. Its just entertainement, sometimes even silly. Same thing goes for video games with lots of violence in them, just doesn't bother me.

I like it when the 'hero' dies, just because it rarely happens.

Yea, especially if they are priests or journalists....and religious journalists even better!

Depends on the setting. If the movie is a splatter; yes of course. If the violence is totally random and unnecessary for the plot; no.

I don't mind it. As long as it isn't explicit castration or beheading with intestines all over the place Its fine with me
