Do you like watching people get hurt/killed (in the movies)?

Why did someone join CFC just to resurrect this ancient thread?

And how did they ever even find it?

The only thing I can't stomach is a long drawn out tortuous death.

Yea, I don't like one sided violence or things like humiliation or heavy bullying, those things makes me cringe a lot, sometime I quit watching a movie because of that. I never watch nor try to watch movie that intentionally glorify violence like Ichy the Killer or any other kind of violence porn movie. But a good war movie, or a great duel scene that happened with or without weapon (with or without causality) can interest me a lot.

This is a movie adaptation of Joseph Conrad works, it called The Duelist, it contained a lot of graphical violent but this is one of my favorite movie that I watch more than 2 time, even from the opening you will know what you will see in this movie.

IIRC this movie is based on true historical event and character.

Some people's all-time favourite moments in movies are ones in which millions of people are slaughtered all at the same time.

But they don't really think of it as such because it's Star Wars, they think of it as space wizards and cute robots, and hey I wonder what that Luke Skywalker is going to do next

I would be very happy if every "death" in all movies was turned into incapacitation. This excludes emotional deaths, such as someone dying from an illness being an important part of the story, etc ... I'm referring exclusively to violent deaths.

I do believe you can get the same effect from action scenes without needing to actually kill people.

IMHO There are many good uses of violence in movies, and many bad ones. I like

Joking over-the-top violence, like in the Monty Python's Holy Grail Duel Scene with the Black Knight, or in comedy-splatter movies like Braindead, which I unironically like more than LOTR :satan:

Slasher violence like in Scream, Black Christmas (1974), Hitchcock's Psycho and Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Artful violence, as in Takashi Miikes movies like Audition (1999) or some of the Italo Horrors (especially Suspiria)

Sometimes graphic violence can be okay, like in The House that Jack built or Dogville, though these kinda make me sick

And lastly I also really enjoy action violence or a good fight, especially nicely choreographed ones like in the John Woo movies

The only kind of violence I really hate is torture porn like SAW and its ilk. They're pretty much universally trite and extremely hard to watch.

War is a difficult subject, I personally feel like unless a movie is trying very hard to be historic or is extremely sensible about its subject like Apocalypse Now, it often feels like a glorification, of war, irrespective of who the "good guy" is.

I dont mean snuff films, Im talking about your average, run of the mill, slice em and dice em slasher flick. That genre seems to exist for the large number of people out there who are so desensitized to violence, that they need to see people terrorized first, and then chopped up with butcher knives, in order to have a good time.

You know, violent films can be fun. The director of Lord of the Rings did two, in fact, as did Spielberg, everything from cartoon violence to horror/splatter.

Personally, I'd recommend Sam Raimis Army of Darkness :)

Joey, that Jerry howitzer shell just knocked that whole squadron unconscious! Get a medic!

After the battle, the battle-ground is filled with mountainous fainted bodies from both side of the camp, and some of the remaining victor walk around carrying a bucket of cold water that is use to wake them up.

Spoiler :
:D

This made me think of Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast episode, "Painfotainment" (free on youtube).

I like watching bad people get hurt / killed. The last movie that really got me into righteous revenge mode was the Carrie remake. By the end of it, I was nodding along in agreement.
