Do you want to have and raise children at some point in your life?

Actually, population is increasing in most of western europe...

Mostly due to immigration. Czech pop. is also increasing, but almost entirely due to immigration. We're currently experiencing a spike in natality thanks to the strong generation born in late 1970's (the last baby boom in Czechoslovakia), but that is a temporary matter. Without immigration, Czech population would shrink to some 6-7 million by 2050.

Western Europe receives more immigrants, but except France and a handful of other countries, the native birth-rates aren't much better.

And personally, I think Europe is a way too overcrowded, it could use some gradual natural reduction of its population. I hope more people move to cities so that we can start reforesting Europe and restoring the wildlife in a semi-natural conditions.

Russia's fertility rate is well below the native fertility rate of Western Europe. Is Russia overcrowded?

Also I don't see how the Czech Republic (or East Germany for that matter) is relevant to this discussion, since they would naturally share similar demographic features to Russia following the USSR's collapse...

I'll probably have 2 to 4.

I know from raising my sisters/cousins etc, if they are not 4 or more years apart, you are asking for trouble.

Naturally... right :crazyeye:

Anyway, I simply demonstrated the fact that European population is increasing mostly due to immigration on an example of country with generally low birth-rate.

4 kids? Never. I have two twin brothers and that is more than enough.

If I ever happened to desire children, I'd like to have 2. With one kid only you're asking for trouble, more than two is too costly and un-Western :)

I would prefer a cat or two. Cats are cute, cuddly and independent! And they pur... Children are just smelly, noisy and obnoxious!

My ex-Step dad is as white as they come and he has 7 kids. .... he is a pretty western guy.

My older sister is 26

I am 22
(save a few months out of the year we are 5 years apart)

Next sister is 15

And the next is nine.

So that is 5,7 and 6 years apart. Once they are 5 years apart or more it is fine. My older sister use to change my diaper, make me food, all of that.

If they are too close together they can be hard to handle.

One time we had 17 people in a 9 bedroom house (my older step brothers and their girls etc) It's not as chaotic as it seems.

Yes having more than 2 kids is not exactly good for the environment, but this country is going to reach 500 million people either way, *shrug*

I have another great reason not to want kids. In around 15 years you could end up with this.

I'm not sure I could handle that on a daily basis.

I'd like to have kids, yes. I'll get back to you on when and how many when I have someone to consult on the matter. ;)

First I need to find a girlfriend, and I will and then we will have 2 to 3 children.

Don't you mean wife?

I think I'd like to have kids eventually, but am in no hurry. I think I'd prefer at least one daughter and not more than one son. Boys with brothers typically seem too rambunctious for my taste.

Whether and how many kids I'd want would depend highly on my kid's dispositions. I'd be fine with those with personalities like mine was as a child, or like that of my niece, but couldn't handle those who act like my nephews (the older, hyper one of them at least). I'm pretty sure both my nephews get their personalities mostly from their mothers' sides, and aren't like most of my blood relatives. The nephew that annoys me the most's mother seems to have a rather domineering personality, and the mom of the nephew that bores me is really passive. I think I'll probably be fine so long as I choose a mate whose personality I like.

I don't understand how people can say they like or dislike kids, as at any age different people have very different personalities. I show no favoritism based on age, and thus don't care very much for a majority of them but don't hold that against the rest.
