You either dig into a mountain with D and then press d and then Enter before desinating dig site. Or press j and build a stair case down until you hit stone. And then build there!

112 Dwarfs currently I started with some wood, two picks, an axe, some food and seeds and 99 barrels of beer.

He made a artifact not long ago.
@Everyone: I am debating starting new fortress as this one has no sieges or megabeasts and that bores the crap out of me. Also we are rich and have everything we could ever need. If anyone protests a new game say something, if not I will simple edit this thread to be the NESing Dwarf Fortress thread and start a new fortress. Perhaps in a haunted tundra or something.

I'm trying to find a flat barren location with magma and water. I think I found one, which is neighboring a goblin fortress but its an aquifer. Meaning it would be a hard time building. Hard times are for us, and we are for hard times!
