EDCNs (Expanded Dynamic Civ Names) new thread

You really can't use kingdom in a republican name.

You can't make a constitutional monarchy in DoC though. If England was any DoC civic, they would be a republic; but they are still called the United Kingdom since they have a figurehead monarch. Not trying to tell you stuff you already know, but that is my reasoning for my support of the name United Kingdom as a republican name.
Suggestions for American names:
Communist America: Commonwealth States of America
Fascist America: Federate States of America (I have it in my game as Confederate States of America, but I know that would piss some people off)
Columbian as American vassal: Republic of Equador
Korea as American Vassal: Republic of Korea
Germany as American Vassal: Federal Republic of Germany
Generic American vassal: Federal Republic of ____
Mexico as American Vassal: Commonwealth of New Mexico

What? Of course you can.

Hereditary Rule + Representation = Constitutional Monarchy.
Hereditary Rule + Egalitarianism = Parliamentary Monarchy.

The United Kingdom is decidedly not a Republic.

And mine too. If it must be United Republic then that it must, but I am somewhat surprised that iOnlySignIn had not changed this already, being the England lover that he is.

Problem is is that I feel the current American names are pretty good.
Communist is United Socialist States of America, which I like due to the similarity to USSR.
Fascist is New World Order, which is nice because it sounds like world dominator, which I think a Fascist America would be.

Vassals: I want to figure something else out for Colombia, but that will probably make it in. I feel Korea and Germany are better as is, since they don't overlap with regular names. Federal Republic is a no again for the same reason.

Mexico/Aztecs: I promise I will put something in not involving New Mexico, since it is part of US territory.

I hate the name New World Order. It sounds like something out a video game.

Wow. And I always thought it sounded like something out of an H. G. Wells novel. :p

You're right, it does seem rather silly for me to say it sounds like its from a video game on a video game forum. But my point is, New World Order sounds much too fictional and hypothetical in contrast to all the real names in the game.

I agree with this.

It defeats the purpose of having dynamic names if you shoehorn England into using the name "United Kingdom" under almost every plausible situation. There are so many combinations of civics and so many historical names for the civs that it should be easy to come up with lots of unique names for each possibility.

The issue with America is that outside of fictional examples,
(Republic of Gilead stands out to me the most for a Theocratic America),
We don't actually have a tangible basis for a number of civic oriented names for an American state.
The specific thing about New World Order, is that in (conspiracy) canon, it's supposed to be an international (elite) effort to bring together a one-state global rule.
So I don't think it necessarily pertains to America.

For use ONLY if we use fictional names:

Spoiler :
Theocratic America: Republic of Gilead
SOURCE: Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid's Tale

Fascist America: The Oligarchy
SOURCE: (I hate to endorse him as he was known to be a virulent racist, but this is one of the few good examples) Jack London, The Iron Heel

Communist America: United Socialist States of America
SOURCE: Eugene Byrne, Kim Newman, Back In The USSA

Well at least make the fictional names believable. Can you imagine people saying, "Yeah, I'm part of the New World Order. The New World Order taxes a little bit higher, but not as much as those damn stormcloaks."

New Version up with following features:
Default democratic England now United Republic of Great Britain
British Empire no longer appears in modern era unless running autocracy or Fascist
Commonwealth of England now appears for democratic in Renaissance era
Added Syrian names for Phoenicia and Sri Lankan names for Tamils (sort of bad right now as directly ripped off from others)

Separated Roman and Italian names.
New Communist name for Rome Plebeian Republic.
Default and Empire Italy name (something is going to be done about this) Kingdom of Italy starts at 4 cities
Reorganized some stuff in the XML files

Find it second post along with plans.

Well that's awkward. Let me check to make sure I didn't release something I didn't mean to that would be doing that to you.

Yes, I will make a new release very quickly.

Here you are. Let's just say I got a bit ahead of myself on that first release. Also updated second post.

The closest America ever got to a city-states situation was under the Articles of Confederation. Then, each state had considerable autonomy, and the federal government had little power (eg. it could not tax). Unfortunately, back then, America was called...the United States of America.

However, back then, the US was commonly called "These United States of America" instead of "The United States." Thus, if the US runs City States, then the former name could be used.

Either that, or we can go with "Divided States of America."

How about "Sovereign States of America", this would emphasize a confederal structure without using the historically tarnished CSA name.
