On a related note... I can't find the clip, but my wife told me that CNN had on a Latino guest a while back that swore up and down that Latino men were far too traditional and patriarchal to support a female POTUS candidate. He apparently said the Democrats only hope with Latino men was to run a "young energetic male". Again, I got this second hand and I can't find the clip, but if there is any truth to that, its kind of an ouchie for Democrats going forward.

Don't worry, their mighty manly man is gonna put quite a dent in that demographic if his campaign promises were remotely accurate.

But surely the leopards wouldn't eat their face. They're the white right kind of Latino, they were born here and their parents came here legally, by hopping on a boat from Cuba, not like those illegal Salvadorians at the Southern Border. The rest of MAGA-world is of course noted for their great racial sensitivity and perception and can surely tell the difference, right? It's not like a bunch of white Americans just think everyone vaguely brown-looking with a last name like Garcia or Hernandez or Iglesias is "Mexican," right?

Hm...
Does not the majority of the american people feel insecure hence elect a strongman?
violence keeps being the most precious commodity for some reason

In places like Texas, Latino people are increasingly labeled/lumped in as white, by themselves and government surveys, and it’s been going that way for 6-8 years.
That was a dynamic(in the US) back in the Mexican War of Independence days. I think you just have to call it "ongoing."

I frequently have no idea who is Hispanic and who is not. You just need to be told. It's all whatever.

Top successors include Tucker Carlson.
Future ones include Vance and Rogan if they aim for it. But I don't think either of them have it.

Tucker understands the game. It's about Daddy spanking his little 15 year old, and it's gonna hurt.
I'd not actually considered Carlson at all when I claimed Rogan may be best fit to replicate Trump's path. He is arguably better positioned by the same logic I used for Rogan, he's just so much less relevant in popculture(I hardly hear of him) that I dunno how to weigh it.

Yes, Democrats'd've known that if they actually spoke to Latinos or knew where Latin America was on the map.

It was that way until the last… third? of the 20th century and now what, it's coming back?

My thoughts on the matter.

You could probably argue in hindsight, that Obama being Black actually helped him win in 2008.
McCain hit the hope and change buzzsaw so hard the results remind me a little of Goldwater. The birtherism was the first substantial entry of 45/47 to the scene.

Problem with hope and change is it's fairly broad. People project what they want onto it.

It was simply a defeat so comprehensive that the party changed in response.

Its previous consensus wouldn't win anymore, Bush's invasions were too much. The Republican party had the benefit of reforming its appeal and sharpening its knives against a Democrat party that was, as it happened, propping up Wall St as it foreclosed on Main St. That dynamic hasn't changed, so the present iteration of knife still works.

I wonder how Trump's proposed tax cuts for the rich and tariffs on imports destined for the poor are going to work out then.

We'll see. If it hurts like 2008 hurt they'll turn on him.

Caveat. A lot of people lost both thier careers(useful purpose) and thier houses, or the knew people who did. Simply paying more for stuff may not do it if people both have a job and think they'll actuality get the VolkswagenTesla(hey, a Nazi reference for you all there) some day.

Yup. Inflation is down but prices haven't gone down just leveling off.

They didn't admit to that or acknowledge it.

I am of two minds of this; one, we just saw price increases do annoy people even if unemployment is at historic lows. But two, we are finally reaching a point where economic reality is becoming detached too, like everything else. Conservative voters are leading the way here, but everybody will get there eventually. The economy as the last thing voters actually respond to based on real conditions being lost will be interesting.

Well, wealth is relative. The rest of the world is getting richer and keeping more of its produce. That needle is going to need navigated regardless. So the response is a relative thing, too.

Also relevant, as the hegemony fades, the "first world" rape states expansionists will come back. They've already started(they never really stopped(yes we are included) but again, relative). It'll change everything since it bucks the current economic barbarism in favor of naked barbarism.

Despair and Stagnation didn't focus test as well.
