Forbes video says it is still close but Trump's polling shows he has momentum.
Please don’t let the Orange One win, I don’t want a repeat of 2016-2020. :cringe:

Full confirmation will only happen by Friday.

I think you are likely to be lucky this time, with a big margin for Trump that will prevent any attempts to draw out the counting.

If you are unlucky and it is a near draw (very unlikely imo), the risk of a huge political mess of claims and counter-claims to victory and attempts at manipulating results is high. Dangerous situation. Too much division and hysteria has been planted.

^If the polls continue to show the current trend, indeed there may be a decent margin in favor of Trump come election day=>no need to wait another day or days to count votes.
Regardless of other dynamics, Kamala didn't prove to be a good campaigner. It'd still have likely been worse if she didn't get the nomination, since then the party would have had to deal with claims about legitimacy of Biden's replacement.

Trump's been terrible on the campaign trail.

The only polls that matter are in the swing states and none are reliable predicters of the tallies on Nov 5.

Not only has she been an excellent campaigner, she still is and is very much in the race to win. She pulled the Democrats out of a very bad situation and turned it around. She has raised more money than Trump. At this point minds are made up and it will be turnout that decides the winner in the swing states. It will come down to who can get the most voters to the polls. Rain on election day can even make a difference. I think the only October surprise that might affect the result would be for Trump to have a heart attack. Let's hope it is a big one.

Cherry picking a pro Trump Forbes poll as somehow meaningful is just ignorant.

I'm really curious what the difference is between how we do it in Canada. Obviously there's 10x people in the U.S., but it seems there'd be 10x more people counting as well. Here you vote during the day, the results start coming in in the evening, and by 1-3am EST the winner is usually clear. Sometimes you have to wait until the next morning. From what I remember, if any other Canadians are reading this and I'm misremembering, do correct me.
The US has newspaper sized voting slips 'cos they vote for everyone down to the dog catcher. Here is an example I found online, but I do not think it is a big one.

Fwiw, if Forbes isn't good enough for you, or if only Forbes stuff you like is good, that's not my worry. I can't see how you can call other posters' actions ignorant with a straight face, though.

538 a polling aggregate it's a bit better. Rasmussen is completely useless. Their results are not even close.

Pretty much everyone's here is aware Trump can win this. If he does not going around claiming he stole the election.

Just as to go here: the NWS Climate Prediction Center is not expecting any major hazards for Election Day. Maybe a bit of rain for the mid-Mississippi Valley and southeastern Alaska and some wind over souther Alaska and the northern Plains over the weekend before and early in the week.

A lot of places have gotten very little rain in October.

Interesting, what else are they voting for? These ballots do look tougher to count than the ones I've been seeing when I vote here, so that adds up. Here I only remember ever picking the candidate I am picking in my riding for federal elections. So there'll be a list of 10 or so names and I put an X beside one of them and that's it, I'm done.

Actually, on election night in 2020, Trump had some decent leads in states he eventually lost once all the votes were counted.

Got it, will make a point to check the news on Saturday.. Any idea why it takes so long to count? I have no idea how they do it so fast here in Canada, we're usually incompetent too.
As others have said, our elections seem to be more complicated than Canada, just in the sense that we are voting for way more offices at the same time, so there is more counting to be done overall.

One thought on that... here, the elections have gotten so crazy polarized that poll workers are getting death threats and having their names defamed, so people don't want to work as vote-counters anymore out of a mixture of exhaustion, fear and disgust. Rudy Guiliani is currently having his home and property seized as part of a $150 Million dollar defamation verdict against him for defaming poll workers in Georgia... that's how crazy it is for poll workers here. They are getting their lives irreparably ruined just because they helped count the votes.

As an aside, its the same for youth sports referees/officials. Parents/spectators/Coaches have gotten so abusive, and occasionally, violent towards officials that there is a critical shortage of sports officials... no one wants to do the job anymore... and this whole toxic environment was stoked and peaked because of Trump and his approach to politics. Medical offices all over the country now have "We will not tolerate aggressive/abusive behavior" signs posted because of the MAGAnauts acting crazy about rules, masks, scientific standards, etc. All of this began because of Trump and the movement that he fostered.

Its a little surreal to be living through, real time, one of the great philosophical historical questions...

"How could the people of Germany let someone like Hitler rise into power?"

As to Forbes, it is run by a former GOP Presidential candidate who was basically a trust fund baby who campaigned on reducing capital gains tax, tax on interest, and the estate tax down to 0%. Basically a plan to help trust fund babies live a tax free lifestyle.

I am nervous about the polling, but I can't take a Forbes poll as all that legitimate.

House Freedom Caucas leader Andy Harris says the North Carolina Legislature should just give up their electors to Trump before votes are counted because most of the counties affected by Hurricane Helene are pro-Trump.

Harris’ comments were in response to a keynote speech by Ivan Raiklin, a pro-Trump activist who has long embraced a radical strategy of state legislatures guaranteeing Trump’s reelection if they deem the 2024 election tainted by fraud and corruption. Raiklin posted a video of his full speech on X as well as a separate clip of his exchange with Harris.

In his remarks, Raiklin argued that in addition to North Carolina, Republican-controlled legislatures in New Hampshire, Arizona, Nebraska, Georgia and Wisconsin could take similar steps by meeting on Election Day and awarding their electors to Trump. Harris asked Raiklin how he could justify his plan in other states that were unaffected by storm damage.

“It looks like just a power play,” Harris said. “In North Carolina, it’s legitimate. There are a lot of people that aren’t going to get to vote and it may make the difference in that state.”

^^^ Exactly what one expect from a MAGA fascist.

That’s very sussy. Aren’t there provisions to stop this from happening. I know there is a thing known as faithless electors, but this is all too much a power grab.

State legislatures have given themselves various levels of power to throw out vote results and replace them with their own if the vote results seem fishy (to them, the state legislators).

Here's how NC describes its process:

A quick glance doesn't show me any vulnerabilities, but Trump's folks won't be taking just a quick glance.
