Well, if he really wants to shut down internet, he should buy a Russian ICBM with multi-megation warhead and detonate it few hundred kilometers above the US. The resulting EMP would effectively shut down the entire network, since large number of servers are located in the US.

But a lot of them are in India or Europe... he'd start a nuclear winter if he'd nuke them all.

In Elton's case it might be just the opposite. He's pissed since people aren't downloading his songs and totally have forgotten him.

Who downloads his music anyway nowadays since there's so much better stuff available after Internet arrived?

Thats a good point.
Actually, I agree with Elton on a few of those things (not every musical innovation the internet was brought has been wonderful)...but I'm not about to advocate removing it.

Besides, there are plenty of other wonderful uses for the Internet. Without it, you wouldn't have known what a truly wonderful person I am and I wouldn't have known you were harboring OT posters in your basement!

That and access to information plus other standard answers.

Yes, let's destroy the internet. all it has done is provide crappy music that has destroyed our ears. It has had absolutely nothing to do with facilitating information transfer, facilitating social networking, providing leisure, OR archiving trillions of terabytes of information. oh, and thanks to people downloading my music, I can no longer afford another fighter jet and will have to get accustomed to being escorted everywhere by only five others.
