Emo/Goth phases

Phase? It's not a phase for me or many people I know, it's life. Then again, we all hate emo and are only 'goth' in the broad sense of the word. Grunger/Metaller/Industrial is better fitting for myself.
Indeed - it's one thing having a light-hearted joke about stereotypes, e.g., writing bad angsty poetry and so on, but people should note that:

* Self-injury is a serious issue, and nothing to do with emo, or goth
* Goth is nothing to do with emo, for that matter, except for the fact that the silly stereotypes that used to be applied to goths now seem to be applied to emo. Goth is an actual subculture; there's no clear evidence that emo is much more than a stereotype.
*And as I say, I don't know if the earlier poster was just joking, but it's sad that the random acts of violence are upheld as a good thing.

A thread joking about any other groups of people wouldn't be allowed, so I hope people can keep this one sensible.

I went through a trendy phase myself as a teenager. So glad I grew out of it! (Really though - I find it odd that wearing one type of fashion is seen as a "phase", but all the other mainstream fashions are not, even though they are probably far more likely to follow phases.)

never had one

there was this one time that i almost put on an "emo" outfit, but i decided i didnt want losers looking at my clothing and assuming i'm a cutter. i mean, i'd figure people wouldnt be ******** enough, but y'know...many seem to be if they believe the emo stereotype

Heh heh...I heard a thing on the radio the other day about 'grown-up goths'; i.e. folks who still lived a goth lifestyle (clothes, music, outlook) but had homes, jobs and children now.

The funniest part? One of the goth parents talked about how her daughter rebels against the 'goth' by listening to country music...

I was a punk between the ages of 14 and 18, but even then I was pretty apathetic about it. Now I'm too apathetic to be anything.

Depressed a couple times, but emo kids deserve to be made fun of and beaten for their lame attempts at feigning depression and gruge music.

Same. Grunger/Metaller/Industrial fits me too. I'm only really just getting out of it.

I hated Emo kids hell of a lot (nowadays, I don't hate them as much, they just annoy me).

I guess I might be showing my age a little here, but what exactly is an 'emo-kid'? Is it the new name for goths, or is it goths that listen to (IMHO) crappy punk-pop instead of metal and skinny puppy...?

I hate Emos my bro is Chav/emo which is bad

What, worse than Big Bird? Are you a loon?

The Count is the best though.

The Count is the best though.

I think my childhood fear of the Count is why I was never able to get into mathematics, which in turn is why I am not now a scientist.

You could have a point there, hence my mathematics degree. And the song "one two three four five, six seven eight nine ten, eleven twelve".

I never went through an emo phase, went through an Imperialist then Racist phase. But no emo

I didn't know there were chav/emos

At least Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder wore flannel because it's cold in Seattle...

Never really emo, but there was a phase where I was really depressed and a damn emotional vampire. I would literally feed on other peoples misery and pain, in the need of my next fix I even schemed and executed many a devious plans to bring down other people down. It was a very disturbing and evil phase of my life, lucky I can control it now. I've masked my hunger by pretending to be a shrink to my friends. This way I can secretly feed but still help them out in some way. Crazy, huh?

I ought to be on some kind of medication I reckon.
