erezNES - Waves of Civilization

Wait, can I join or is it too late for this wave?

Gutian Confederation/Spaceman98
Government: Tribal War Chiefs rule all
Religion: Polytheism, largly adopted the Sumerian pantheon but reguard Ninurta and Inanna as their patron gods, since these are the Sumerian war god and godess (the second being a fertility godess also helps)
Stability: Stable
Information: Agruiculture developed in Mesopotamia, but the first civilizations rose in Europe. What explains this apparent contradiction? We do. The Gutians are a Persian tribal people who invaded the early Sumerian city states before those could take hold and establish civilization. The invaders absorbed local agruiculture and religion, but put their own warlike twist on it. War gods have been given the greatest temples and the local populance was enslaved and ordered to farm as the Gutian chiefs occupeid the proto city states of the rivers vallys. As these factions grew they came under attack from northern tribal groups from Medea, which spurred the warlike cities to unite. Their unity is not strong, but the confederacy has been growing more cohesive with the establishment of roads and river routes. Nontheless, war remains the mainstay of this nation. Who shall we conquer and enslave next?
Unique unit: Gutian Raider. These lightly armored fast moving axeman squads are what allowed these people to conquer the rising agruicultural communities. Origionally developed in an effort to integrate bronze into the Guitan tribal wars, the chiefs that adopted them became the leaders of the confederation and found that their weapons could also be used against the feeble civilized people of the rivier vallys. What this unit loses in ability to defend due to its weak armor, it makes up for in manuverability and raiding potential. The strategy being that if you can surprise the enemy they won't have time to ralley before half of them are crushed and you would not need to hold ground.

too late but for the next wave (tomorrow) all you have to do is say "me" to join.

Also to everyone making ship UU's - just so you would know they will be about

this size. No big ships yet! I reserve full control of scientific progress.

While I understand the restriction on shipsize. How does the trade works that follows the dotted lines in the Mediterranean with ships this size?

Very carefully.

OOC: In my NES I have warships be those, with primitive rams and sails. Trade ships are actually barges.

D'awww. I was thinking of things like this.

It can't move itself. It is just a massive box pulled by rowboats, with enclosed (and barely watertight) compartments belowdecks usually filled with supplies.

EDIT: More specifically, the one-time-use barges farmers used to take corn and wood down to New Orleans. They can easily disassemble the barge for usable building wood (after drying it out, probably) and sell that along with their crops. Very roughly made at this moment.
Those would be the trade barges. They are nearly useless for battles, mostly can carry some forces. I suggest for now UU's will be land-unit based, even if it is marines or special archers on boats. In this NES curraghs are free. They are so small and pointless anyway for wars etc... There won't be a limit to UU's like in TerranceNES ;) but for starters only one.

Do I have five joiners yet?
I guess I do. If I'll get orders before the deadline from the players that got their nations already I will update earlier.
No orders for those who have not officially gotten their nations yet.

Spaceman just remind me tomorrow after the update before others join that you already posted information. First come first serves still stands for EVERY update until I'll decide to stop the wave idea.
Thou I do like your things :p

Actually. Since TerrisH picked an existing nation. I'll let you in spaceman (which will help me not have Optical alone).

I should add - if you want an existing NPC - enjoy! They are ALWAYS open.

That was actually pretty much what I had in mind. :p

Name/player Kingdom of Troja
government: Monarchy, though large amount of power distributed to the three merchant noble-houses. king is elected by the noble houses, from among the minor members of the noble houses.
Religion: See Nassiros, though slightly higher emphasis on the goddess of trade, Netteris
Stability: Stable
Economy: Bentrio's economy is trade driven, relying on control of the straights
Projects:
Information: Troja is ruled by trade. originally, Troja's noble houses trace their ancestry back to simple merchants from Nassiros, who grew wealthy on the expanding trade, and eventually sought their own realm to rule. eventually settling, and building up the city of Troja.
Unique unit: Merchant's Guards. with all the trade flowing in and out of Troja, there is a lot of wealth, and where there is wealth, there are thieves. the merchants guard are warriors hired by the city to defend the various mercantile efforts of the noble houses. in exchange, the noble houses help offset the cost of maintaing them in peacetime. (lower maintenance cost in peacetime)

Spoiler orders :

build up the merchents gaurd
look into increesing trade we conduct.
Expand along both sides of the strieghts. perferably through trade, but any and all means may be used.

Erez, are we keeping track of the date in this NES, or just using our own calendar system?

Thank You!
Question: Do I send orders this update or the next one?

Next, IIRC.

Expressing interest for the next wave.

Never mind my above post.

Orders:
2 EP

Begin taking 33% tax on all trade (does this already happen automatically?).
Begin taxing all people at a 30% rate, except for merchants, who have a rate of 15%
Spend both EPs on encouraging trade to come to our nation by beginning the construction of a port in the capital.

Erez, are we keeping track of the date in this NES, or just using our own calendar system?
No need to keep track of time. It's going to get a bit funky...

Anyway
I got my 5 joiners.
But I only got 1 order set from ArrowGamer, still 3 missing.

Remember - this NES is a bit more story-based so use your imagination about spending your tiny economies.
I have added a small price list at the end of the update. Thou you will see you don't need it ;)

For the second wave : ME !

Name/player : Xurxo/ Bonefang
Government : Monarchy
Religion: Pagan Beleifs, sun god, Grar
Age: Bronze
Stability: Stable
Economy: Agrarianism; Some are engaged in fishing; Traders ply the land for many wares, including human slaves
Projects: Temple to the sun god, Grar
Information: The Xurxo in essence is a coalition of tribes; a cosmopolitan entity which compromises of men and women from various tribes. Some of them have willingly submitted to the Xurxo's fame and renown. Some of the less fortunate ones have, however forced to submit the military prowess of the Xurxo, and are now the slaves essentially doing the bidding of the mainstream Xurxo tribe.
Unique unit: Yet to be decided

Man and Woman, and Classes in the Nogaia Culture

In the Nogaia, or more specifically, the Urban Nogaia, the two most honored classes are that of craftsmen and that of merchant. Each household generally has at least one of each, and whatever the craftsman makes, the merchant sells as the center of his or her stock.

Indeed, there is very little cultural gender bias in Nogaia society, for the true value of a person's place in society is the quality and ability of his or her labors. The Merchant, with his negotiation scales, are sometimes more preferred for public speaking while the Craftsman, is more preferred for public patronage. The family unit itself is not overly emphasized as it is in Xian. Rather, a "household" or a "company" is. Often but not necessarily united by marriage, and always by business and expedients, these amorphous social structures are always changing, with most part of at least three such structures.

As the generations went past the days of the fabled Nogaia empire, women slowly gained the advantage over public life in the city states. In various households where one is expected to share their bodies as feelings intervene, the woman is the only "owner" of her children and soon find themselves at the beating heart of their own companies. Women were seen to have a natural advantage over men in speaking to the public, for men seemed to have a natural bias for female officials. Women also over time developed to be, in general, better and more detailed craftsmen with their motherly attention to detail.

It has come that when the gathered settlements begun expanding their early walls into the countryside and organizing more stable political structure than constantly shifting household alliances, which is considered the true start of Nogaia as a civilization (after the abortive attempt at empire), most city states have a Queen as their elected monarch, while the men dominate the Tahe ranks, finding refuge in one job they are sure to excel in and to prove their self-worth under the shadow of the dominant Nogaia women.

OOC: What I mean that although in Nogaia culture neither gender are seen intrinsically better, there are growing precedents in culture which are developing an increasing sense of gender roles which are by no means set.
