Evil Genius NES

I am not accepting more orders.

If you didn't send them on time, tough luck. You had more than enough time.

And remember, I take unjustified absence very seriously. Just so you know, from now on:
NO ORDERS = SUFFERING

@bestrfcplayer: shame on you, man. You say you want to play, and suddenly you say you don't want to play. And that's just before the NES actually starts. If you aren't going to make the effort to actually play, why do you say you want to join?

Update 1, February 1961

From Le Soir Échos, 3rd February 1961
The police department in the city of Casablanca has reported a great number of disturbances in the market districts, but every time they arrive the shops never show a problem, and the shop owners always wonder about what the people are saying happens in their shops. However, an undercurrent of fear for things like these happening elsewhere in the city has appeared, due to rumors of German-accented people being spotted near the shops just before the reported incidents happened, but interrogation of the German community has brought no suspects onward.

From the Chicago Police Department, 5th February 1961
The robbery of the Chicago City Bank happened at some point between 12 AM and 2 AM. This has been established thanks to Mr Thomas Dreiss, security guard that was doing his round around the bank at the moment, reports having heard noise some time after his round started at 11:55 PM. He left to investigate the noise, but was hit from behind by an unknown person or persons and remained unconscious for several hours. When his fellow security guard Mr Mark Toledo arrived to the bank in order to change the guard, he decided to go on his route after his partner failed to appear, only to discover him later. Investigation of the bank shows that a quantity of money of approximately ten thousand dollars was stolen. Details of the robbery match up to those of robberies conducted by serial robber Lance Guill, currently in unknown whereabouts.

From Der Bund, 9th February 1961
Two days ago, a bomb threat against the city of Bern was received by the Swiss government. The text of the threat has not been published, but upon further study of said note it was regarded as the work of a fool, given that he threatened the non-existent underground train system of Bern. However, investigation of this has been handed to the EURO Agency, to investigate who is the originator of said note based on certain data.

From El Correo de la Habana, 10th February 1961
Are you looking for a good job? Then come to Pharaoh's Casino, where you will be able to finally get the job of your dreams, with fantastic pay and great enjoyment as you give joy to people when they finally gain the Big Prize!

From a conversation within Casino Hing Yam Kung, 12th February 1961
- What the hell is that?
- Looks like a door with a numbered panel.
- We should investigate that.
- Why?
- Because that could hide the proof that the owner of this casino is actually the man we are looking for! What do you think will happen to us if we do not investigate everything?
- Yeah, you are right. Let's check it out.
- Combination seems to be formed by the numbers 5, 9 and 0. And it is a four number password.
- Try 9-5-5-0.
- OK. It works! How did you know?
- Tell you later. What the hell? There is nothing here. Just a corridor.
- Let's make sure. Nothing on this room. Nothing here. Nothing. Nothing.
- Why do they keep this part without using it?
- Maybe they plan to use it as storage? Let's get out of here, before we get caught.

From Nhan Dan, 14th February 1961
Government officers have reached an agreement with a Soviet officer for the sale of weaponry, which is expected to give the Vietnamese Army an edge against the capitalists puppet rebels of the so called Republic of Vietnam. These new weaponry comes with blueprints for its construction, so they can be built in our factories, where workers give their best to aid in this terrible conflict against the foreign capitalist tyrants and their puppets.

From Los Angeles Times, 16th February 1961
The Food Wars are on! Or so says Entire Foods' shop owner, Daniel Martin. A series of advertisement stunts between Entire Foods and rival The Big (both situated within famous Moureau's Mall One) has brought great attention to the citizens of Los Angeles, who are being attracted to the shops in curiosity of what they offer and find themselves attracted by the quality of the products offered there. Some people, however, are being driven back by the viciousness of this Food Wars between the two shops, which is attracting also the attention of the Los Angeles Police Department.

From Sydney Morning Herald, 17th February 1961
John D. Cluck, owner of the local Cluck shop chain, was arrested yesterday when an officer recognized his name from the FBI Ten Most Wanted list and proceeded to find reinforcements for the action. Mr Cluck was found guilty of committing robbery, assault, murder in first degree and money laundering in several occasions, which resulted in his being condemned to death, only to escape to Australia thanks to several accomplices that were killed in the effort. According to government officials, he will be soon deported to the United States of America, where he is expected to go through his pending death sentence several days after his arrival. His assets have been expropriated by the Australian government, which looks to sell them.

From France Soir, 18th February 1961
Yesterday evening, a group formed by several tens of workers from the Montmartre district manifested in favor of the restoration of the French Empire under businessman Louis Napoleon. This manifestation was soon dispersed by the local police, given the illegality of their actions, and everybody was sent back to their homes without much problem. When questioned by national police officers, Louis Napoleon only had to say that, while he felt heartened by the support of the Parisians, he also remarked that he had no wish to take upon the offer, and that he still supports the Republic.

From Le Tribune de Genéve, 19th February 1961
Several small churches in the city of Geneva have reported the loss of several religious symbols, most of them crosses, although a couple of reliquaries were also reported to having disappeared. There are no clues about who stole these symbols, but the investigators think that it must be related to some kind of international terrorist, given that every time a small United Nations flag has been left behind in place of said symbol.

From La Croix, 21st February 1961
The famous hospital Convent-Hôpital Verité Fondamental de Cœur et Foi suffered two days ago a small fire that destroyed several rooms in there. Firemen took some time in arriving there, and some extra time in extinguishing the fire due to the complicated layout of the hospital, but they finally were able to do so. Fortunately, the fire didn't cause deaths or injuries, but it has caused damages for several tens of thousands of dollars. Several people have appeared already to give donations to the hospital, but it is not known how much has been received by the hospital. We hope that the hospital will be able to continue its function soon.

From Local Casinos, 22nd February 1961
Willington's Casino recently had a player in their poker games who managed to earn a great quantity of money, much more than what the local casino was able to give in the moment. In the end, the owner of Willington's Casino was forced to pay up of her own pocket the rest of the money in order to prevent the player from demanding the casino.

From Las Vegas Times, 23rd February 1961
A small explosion in recently built Atlantis Casino caused several deaths amongst its workers, as well as the destruction of much equipment. Fortunately, the explosion didn't cause much more problems. Owner Tiberius Anderson has declared that he will investigate the reasons behind this explosion, and offered his condolences to the family members of those people who died, some of whom have been offered jobs in his casino as a way to allow them to earn the same salary their deceased relatives earned.

From San Francisco Chronicle, 24th February 1961
Yesterday at 7 PM, a man assaulted San Francisco's Mayor, accusing him of being a “puppet of the alien overlords in Washington”. Policemen were able to restrain the man, who was identified as Malcolm Alleyne, a local man who works at recently opened shop Smith Supplies. Being questioned about this, Mr Jonathan William Smith, owner of Smith Supplies, pledged to support his employee, whom he says must have suffered from a insanity attack, which is something he hopes will sway in favor of Mr Alleyne.

From Demari, 25th February 1961
All around Finland, the talk is about the Sisterhood, the terrorist group that has recently pronounced its wish to take over the world and establish a female-centered dictatorship. While those that form part of it are completely unknown, the police and several EURO agents are already working on identifying them, especially their leader, given the danger they can bring to normal society's structure. The leader of the Finnish branch of the YWCA, Marjatta Mäkinen, has stated her repulsion for the heavy-handed ways of the Sisterhood, indicating that this is not what should be done to help women reach their right position in society as equals to men, as well as that enforcing a matriarchal society would be as bad as the enforcement of a patriarchal society.

Map: it's the same as last turn, erasing John D Cluck's symbol, so no need to move around.

OOC: Whomever gets the funny details gets a cookie! (Or a bonus, whatever you prefer).

For a first turn, it wasn't bad. It is a pity that five people didn't send orders, and that a sixth had to be NPCed (which I don't like much, especially given how this game works). I also got several sets of really interesting orders, which I hope you will repeat.

@merciary: please, send the orders in a normal format. What you sent ain't exactly good.
@those that didn't send orders: you have just seen what happens when you don't send orders. Keep doing it and you'll see how bad it can get. So, please, for the next update, SEND YOUR ORDERS.

Stats haven't been updated yet, I'll do it soon. Also, I hope that you liked the update's format.

Anything you think I have missed, tell me.

Just so you guys do not miss it:
UPDATE 2 ORDERS ARE DUE FOR NEXT MONDAY 22ND AUGUST AT 10 PM SPAIN TIME (4 PM EST)

Enjoy!

Can I has henchmen?

Plox? :p

OOC: I forgot to send orders, did I? Crap, that stupid AP project got me confused what I did and didn't do in the NESing realm. Well, at least its over now, and I plan on sending Turn 2 orders. :p

OK, I have updated the stats.

Please, read this attentively:
- From now on, Maintenance may be paid directly from your bank account.
- Bank Accounts have a 5% interest on the money held at the end of the turn (after payment of maintenance).
- If you have a bank account, you can't spend money in it in missions, you have to pull the money out first.
- I should start thinking about how to put the possibility of owning a bank in the game, because putting it as a front just doesn't ring OK.

Hans was not one for science. But Wilheim had gently pushed his old boss' son into to something villainous. They just so happened to be talking about this when something about the Soviet forays into space. That got young Hans thinking about the greatest advantage, the ultimate high ground - space. The governments of the world would be forced to listen to the mighty von Barron when he had a death laser pointed at the world capitals or something.

But this engineering and rocket science stuff was hard. In what had become Hans' study, there were blueprints and science papers covering every available surface. And none of it was going in. The stuff was there, it just wasn't registering. The German had gone into a near catatonic state when Wilheim called through. "Doctor Tisza is here to see you, Herr von Barron." Hans managed to get a garbled confirmation. He assumed that he would have had a chance to get coffee before the doctor turned up. He'd have to meet the old man through the fuge of sleeplessness. But at least he wouldn't have to worry about all of... this any more.

"Hello, Mister von Barron." That... that didn't sound like Charles Tisza. Hans pushed him self up from the desk to look at his guest.

And there was an angel in the doorway. No other word could describe it. Maybe it wasn't a halo of light surrounding her, but the naked cieling light from the next room, and her flowing robes looked more like a white coat, but it was obviously some sort of angel.

As she stepped (walking wouldn't be doing it justice) towards the desk, it was all Hans could do not to sit there slack-jawed. When she sat down, it looked like the cheap chair was sculpted exactly for her. Eventually, Hans managed to get out "Y-you're not Doctor C. Tisza." Smooth move.

The laugh started with a smile. It was slow, the woman allowing it to build up. "I am, actually. But I'm the daughter of the man you're thinking of. Daddy's much too ill, and he said 'I'd much rather look directly at a hot nuclear reactor than work for any one of that family again.' So you get me." She smiled again and produced a cigarette. The way she smoked wasn't like his minions, standing around with the fags hanging out their mouths. She was elegant. "But I have the same skill set as daddy, so if you need me for anything..." She made a show of leaning over to grab - she wasn't well endowed, but if anything, it would have looked wrong - a piece of paper with Hans' doodle of a rocket ship, complete with stick figure universumseeman sitting on the nose. "...especially for science-related matters like this." She leaned back. "So, do I have the job?"

He can ask for her qualifications later. "Yes. Yes you do. Welcome aboard..."

"Charlotte."

Ohio looked at his watch for the tenth time in a minute. Was he really 20 minutes late? Tex was going to flay them both alive when he came back. He smiled though; not with this cargo he wouldn’t. Michigan was an idiot, but he was a really good driver. He looked at Rhode Island and shrugged. Rhode Island put his cigarette out and started smoking another, when headlights appeared.

The truck stopped, and Ohio and Rhode Island climbed aboard in the back. A group of forty or so illegal immigrants were cramped in. They were promised a man would take them to find work in Nevada. Of course, Mr. Anderson had no ability to hold these people, not yet. But twelve young women in there would make fine additions to the corners and the barrooms of the Strip. In Spanish, Ohio explained that they would be reunited soon, but to throw the police off, they’d take two separate trucks. The one full of young women would be the distraction, as the police would be unsuspecting of a party bus full of young women, while the main truck got them to the safe haven. The people accepted it, and promises to see each other in the safe place were made. Of course, this ladies would never make it there. The others would, and would stay there for a week until a loyal employee of Tiberius industries discovered that illegal immigrants were causing all sorts of problems in Nevada and got them deported. Such is life.

Rhode Island took over the truck, and Michigan and Ohio went with the ladies, Ohio offering the girls each something to drink. A few minutes later, they were all passed out. There was no issue on the road back to Vegas; the Atlantis Casino was having a huge promotional stunt about the repair of the casino and having a huge party, and had motioned that the police should protect the strip from undesirables. It worked. The only issue was the engine three quarters of the way there, but due to Michigan’s aptitude for vehicles both driving and repairing them, it was no issue.

When they finally got back to the hotel, the girls were dragged into the basement. One of the henchmen, Maine, was a pimp. He trained the new women on how to be hookers and strippers, with the help of Ms. Virginia. The girls cried many of the nights, but they were broken eventually. Their ranks began to swell, as more and more girls were added to the stable. One girl did try running away, and though she was brought back, actions were taken to prevent this from ever happening. Ohio thought by taking hostages of some of their families but Ohio had to admire Maine though for his craftiness. He simply made the girls so dependent on one another, that if he even threatened one of the girls, it brought them all back in line. And as these girls worked the corner, the cash flowed into the casino, Ohio watching with glee. Ironic that foreigners would be providing the capital needed for America’s rise, but such is the way irony works. Until then, he needed to talk to Maine about a girl that caught his eye….

If you can't pay maintenance, you start losing buildings from your lair. You have to choose the order in which you lose them.

And I have just received some more orders. So far, David Moreau, Tiberius Anderson, General Babaham and Louis Napoleon have stated their wishes. Hope to see everybody else soon!

OOC: Yeah, I doomed myself by having too much mantinience with not enough income. Unless I find something like a legit 1 Mil. check, I'm pretty much screwed up. Not your fault, Mil, but I'm just going to go out here.

It was a fun two updates, though. :)

Wait, I've sent mine. I can't send them again, at least not until Thursday.

OK, I am starting the update now.

Got orders sent by Tiberius Anderson, General Babaham, Hans von Barron (sorry I didn't mention them before), Dr Mobius, David Moreau, Louis Napoleon, Yuri Semmovich, Mister Tan and Jonathan William Smith. Prospo's Vladmir Virskosky is still NPCed (although hopefully he will be back soon), Mari Saari will disappear from the scene and neither Sister Mary Catherine nor Marla Willington have sent orders, so that's Strike 2 against them.

I hope to have this update by tomorrow.

Update Two, March 1961

Serial Robber causes confusion in the continent in Le Rabat Journal, 2nd March 1961
In the last few weeks, policemen all around Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and Spanish Sahara have noticed that there has been a rush of bank robberies all around the region. All these robberies were portrayed by 3-men teams, all of which spoke French or Arabian with a German accent, and they seemed very well coordinated, which makes the police believe that they had inside information. Given the nature and expansion of the robberies, AFRO agents are already investigating these crimes, and there are already clues of connections amongst all the bank robberies.

Strip Divorce in Las Vegas Times, 5th March 1961
Mr Andrew Hunt, owner of the Hunter's Lodge Casino, has reported that he is starting the paperwork for a divorce in his marriage between himself and corporate heiress Mrs Edna Worsley, citing personal problems in their relationship as the reason behind this sudden choice. However, certain sources have informed this newspaper anonymously that the actual reason of divorce was that, behind the facet of a happy couple, there are problems in that Mr Hunt has engaged in several affairs with many other women, using his position as owner of the Hunter's Lodge to engage in said affairs. While this newspaper hasn't been able to confirm this information, we will be working on ascertaining the truthfulness of these statements.

Aliens living amongst us! in San Francisco Enquirer, 8th March 1961
It is true! There are aliens living among us. The leaders of the nations do not want this to be known, because they either are aliens themselves or are under their thrall! We do not know why aliens are here, but it is suspected that they plan to TAKE OVER THE WORLD in order to enslave us. We ask all humans and any aliens that are willing to join us in the quest to free the world from the influence of those that only wish us harm, enslave and kill us!

Sisterhood Disbanded in Helsingin Sanomat, 10th March 1961
EURO Agents, upon confirmation of several details that they had been trying to solve, proceeded to the arrest of the hierarchy of the infamous Sisterhood, led by Mari Saari. According to police sources, the information came from a disgruntled member of the Sisterhood – whose identity has been concealed so that no reprisals are met by the woman who revealed the information – information that painted a dark light over the Sisterhood and its members. All of them have been arrested under charges of conspiracy and their assets have been expropriated by the EURO Agency.

Scandal in the French Catholic Church in Le Monde, 11th March 1961
A surprising series of arrests were conducted yesterday in the city of Monaco by the local police, with help from EURO agents. According to sources from the Monegasque police, famed local shop Le Marché de Sœurs, was suspected of acting as a potential front for criminal activities. As such, a fast intervention was launched, and ended with the arrest of several nuns, all of them former workers at the Convent-Hôpital Verité Fondamental de Cœur et Foi, a hospital run by nun Sister Mary Catherine, who wasn't available for commentary on these news. EURO speakers have stated that the investigation has yet to be closed, and that more arrests can happen.

Guill Attacks Again! in Chicago Times, 14th March 1961
Once more, famed robber Lance Guill has managed to act in spite of police efforts to arrest him. Much like last month's robbery, he did it in the middle of the night, when the level of security was smaller, and managed to knock out a security guard to allow for an easy access to the bank. However, last night the robbery took less than fifteen minutes, which clearly shows that Lance Guill is not only improving, but also training several other people in aiding him to rob. We hope that the police will be able to capture this criminal soon.

Samantha Morris, saved by policeman in The Sacramento Bee, 17th March 1961
Samantha Morris, daughter of Representative for California Robert Morris, who was kidnapped three days ago by unknown people, was found by policeman Daniel Siever yesterday evening in an abandoned building in the outskirts of Sacramento. Police speaker Francis Cane said that Officer Siever managed to make a connection between the sudden renting of the building and strange moves around the place, as reported by concerned citizens, and managed to enter the building and rescue the kidnapped teenager. Representative Morris has thanked the Sacramento Police Department and Officer Siever, as well as offered them a reward for rescuing his daughter, but Officer Siever stated that there was no need for a reward to be given to him.

Société Internationale opens its doors in Les Échos, 19th March 1961
Dr Louis, Prince Napoleon, announced the creation of the Société Internationale to watch over the holdings he has put into business. He has stated that this has been done in order to make sure he can devote his time to the organization of his holdings, as well as time to spend with his family and friends. The fact that he recently authorized the opening of Français Internationale in the city of Brest tells much about the effort and money he is spending in order to bring more jobs to the French people.

Disappearances trouble the Premier in Pravda, 22nd March 1961
In this last month, several important scientists have disappeared from their laboratories. There are suspicions that these scientists may have defected to the Capitalist Bloc under the misguided belief that capitalism is the way of life, but Soviet Union embassies in the Capitalist Bloc nations have reported that none of the missing scientists have appeared in any of those nations. We hope that these scientists will return soon to their correct positions within the Soviet Union.

Casino discovered cheating in Business Day, 25rd March 1961
Famed Willington Casino, which opened doors earlier this year, was reported as enforcing a cheating system amongst the workers in order to increase revenues from unsuspecting clients and players. This ended in the casino having to pay a strong fine and a hanging sentence of enforcing closure of the Casino, a decision that didn't fall well with the casino owner but that she was forced to accept, given that it was her fault it happened.

Robberies worry Hanoi in Nhan Dan, 27th March 1961
There has been a discovery of a great number of robberies happening in the city of Hanoi this last week. It started with an attack on a military base, where blueprints for several weapons acquired by the government were stolen. Then, several banks were robbed, with the people taking several millions of đồngs from there. Police investigation has established that there are ties between both incidents, and asks the population to collaborate as much as possible with the police in order to arrest these people for their crimes.

International Stores Opening in Le Monde, 30th March 1961
Surprising many people everywhere in the world, the owner of Swiss Supplies in Geneva decided to expand his holdings, but in a certainly strange way, by buying several shops all around Europe to add them to his current holdings. Mr Vladmir Virskosky, owner of Swiss Supplies, has declared his hope that these will be the first in many shops that he hopes to expand to more countries as time passes, and attempting to accomplish something worthy of being worshipped.
