Explain why your country is better than the US

I feel I'm very qualified to quote this. I lived in Munich for three years :)

We can choose from more than 2 parties in elections
so do we, It's just that only two parties get the most votes.

ancient buildings everywhere (even the farm of my grandmother is probably over 300 years old)
Definately true, but since we've only been here 400+ years it's hard to have buildings that old, no fair, doesn't count :)

the worlds most famous Coffee house culture (and best coffees apart from Italy)
Agreed: What we call coffee shouldn't be fed to pigs. Why do you think Starbucks can charge $5 a cup, it's the closest thing we have to coffee

Decent restaurant quality and quantity and its cheap prizes (really was astonished how expensive normal restaurants are in the US)
You must nave been in the northwest, because here in Texas, we have some of the biggest plates and the best foods :)

I never had to buy a car in my life due to the public transport density
Far lower crime rates
Again, agree: I was thirteen when I moved to Munich. Half a mile walk to the S-bahn and anywhere in the city from there. There was really nothing like having such freedom...

But if you look at the northeast, it's pretty much the same, and about the same size as Germany. This country is to dang big to have a coast to coast public transportation system :(

Better health system and more social welfare
Better system, maybe. Better providers, I doubt it. We have some of the finest medical facilities in the world, IF you can afford them :(

Decent beer and a lot of breweries
Amen, brother , amen. I would kill to get back to Andechs

Much cooler language (I love German because of its ability to stick together nouns infinetly and because you can much more easy build sentence monsters with more than 10 levels of hierarchy)
LMAO. I personaly think it sounds a little to gutteral :) but it was very easy to pick up the basics, unlike English which is dang near impossible :)

Austria is the junction of Italian, Bavarian, Bohemian and Hungarian culture
We have all those to, and more. a lot of immigrants, all proud of their heritage. We have Czech fests, Greek fests, Oktoberfests (NOTHING like the real one though). Little Italy and Chinatown in every city.

On the downside: we caused (together with Germany) and lost both Worldwars and we pay more taxes here
Umm... at least you got the Autobahn out of it?

European cities are definitly more vibrant than US cities and hence more enjoyable to live in.

I wouldn't like to live in a city which would be made of a CBD representing 4 horizontal and 4 vertical avenues surrounded by an ocean of boring houses. Where to go out during night in such a context ? Taking your car to go watch a movie in a mall ? How sad !

Because we are on top. :smug:

Only in your northo-centric view of the world. :p

This is how I see things:

It doesn't really make sense for you to compare tiny countries like Denmark or Netherlands to a country as vast as the USA. States here are very different from each other, places like Massachusets are more liberal than some parts of Europe. Its just like clumping all of Europe together as a whole even.

Cricket is better, because it requires more skill from both bowlers and batters.

Skill schmill, it's dull and boring just like its sibling baseball. At least baseball only tortures its audience for only 3 hours. Cricket can go on for days.

Things I prefer about the UK (in no particular order):
* Fewer Christians, far fewer fundamentalist Christians, more atheists/nontheists (note, I have nothing against Christians themselves as such - I have several Christian friends - the problem is when they wield policial power).
* Cheaper higher education - though thanks to Labour, this is rapidly going down the pan.
* National healthcare.
* Better public transport.
* Our democratic system isn't "two party" to the extreme that it seems to be in the US.

Our culture and civilisation cannot be compared with that of the USA, because we are a 10,000 year old cultural continuum, whereas the USA is less than a twentieth that age. You cannot meaningfully compare a 20 year old with a one year old, can you?

As a country, we aren't as good as the USA.

Yet.

Give us fifty years.

-Abortion.
Bad

-Euthanasia.
Bad

-Better health care. As it's paid for by the government, bad
-Universities are affordable for all. Because that's paid for by the government, bad
-We actually care about the environment. At the cost of your economy
-No rampant gun violence. No, you all just get all your murderous feelings out on the unborn or sick.
-The police smokes weed together with you. Disgraceful
-We speak Dutch. Meh. Neither good nor bad

Here the religious do not dictate everybody else how to live their lives. If they want to live their lives a certain way, they're free to do so as long as they don't push their morals and values onto others.

Just going by your list, it sounds like the Netherlands is a terrible place to live compared to the US.
