Explain why your country is better than the US

Amen, brother!

Are there countries out there that work like that, or can we only look to the early US as an example?

Russia? Canada? Roman empire?

The size of the USA makes it difficult to administrate effectively, but weakening the central government could have potentially disasterous consequences. Look no further than the roman empire for an example.

But to what extent do those examples have stronger smaller administrative areas? Canada has its provinces, but do/did Russia and Rome have something similar to the states, or did they just have less of a central authority and nothing to fill the void?

I don't think our provinces are any more autonamous than are American states, in fact I believe the opposite is true.

I thought it was as well.

I don't admit to knowing any Canadian history, have any of your provinces (besides Quebec) claimed at one point to be independent states/nations/countries?

Nobody else has claimed as such, but an independence movement has surfaced in pretty much every province except Ontario and Manitoba.

You mention taking a vacation there. Does that mean that it's not prevalant all over America? Just in a small state way off the coast? And even then, Hawaiian food is basically just a melting pot for other foods such as Japanese and Thai. Much of it is food you can find in other cultures.

Hawaiian food is becoming much more popular on the west coast with chains such as L&L Drive in. In Las Vegas there are also a few good Hawaiian restaurants. I go to these others occasionally, Sam Choy's is just my favorite.

I would disagree and say Provinces are far more autonomous than American States simply by the fact that Provinces can exit the Dominion.

Why is the secesstion of a US state any less plausible?

So, nonAmericans, explain why your nation is better than the US.

I'm 100% certain that there is no possible way that this topic can degenerate into a flame war.

Czech Rep.:

we're much less religious, no religious nutjobs in high politics
we brew better beer
we play better ice-hockey
our history is longer than 300 years.

Probably few more things I could find, but I am too lazy.

From what I understand, the federal system is actually pretty rare. We have hundreds of "Democracies" in the world, but *I think*, only 23 nations use some form of Federalism...and most of those countries are way smaller than the US, and the larger nations that use forms of these system have stronger federal governments than we do, (like say, Russia).

Our system of Govt is actually pretty unique. Other countries don't like doing it, because it creates *tons* of governments (think about how many we have...tens of thousands!). As far as local government is concerned, I think we Americans have a pretty special deal.

Very well.
While my country(Norway) is far from perfect, and it seems to be heading a bit in the wrong direction, it is a kinder, gentler, more solidaric, more decent society than the US of A.
While you are breaking new records in severe poverty those who for one reason or another are less fortunate still have a certain dignity and a right to expect assistance from the community.
Of course, to no small degree this is because organized labour has real influence in politics. Less plutocracy = good.

I'm 100% certain that there is no possible way that this topic can degenerate into a flame war.
In that case, I must really wonder why you brought it up. Is it really that important?

Well, I stated my opinion above, but here's another possibility:

Romania:
- Some of the best women in Europe
- We are much more religious (you may be surprised :p)
- We have a history of almost 2500 years
- We have mountains, ruins, castles, sea, beautiful highlands and all this in a territory about the size of a state of USA
- We have great people in computers (we won the gold medal at the European Olympiad in the past 3 years, and second most spoken language in Microsoft is Romanian
- We had the first (football) keeper to defend all the penalties in a game
- A Romanian built the first jet airplane
- Great food, it's the confluence of Balkanic with Central European cuisine, also we have some dishes unique in the world (example: "Sarmale")
- We have Constantin Brancusi, considered one of the most important sculptors, that put the basis of modern sculpture

- Some of the best women in Europe

Some perhaps, but Scandinavia had it's pick of women for a few hundred years which allowes me to say that Scandinavian women are the best in northern europe, if not Europe in general.
