I made this. The commercial satellites are slightly yellowish and the military satellites are greenish. It is not a huge difference, but I think large enough to distinguish them without effort.

Maybe make the military satellite red and the science green? Would match the game's colour scheming a bit better.

I chose green because I had an image in my mind of a satellite with military green camouflage. (That does look really cool, although that kind of camouflage is useless in space)

Why not change the colour of the solar panels instead? They stand out more. I would use yellowish for commerce and reddish for military (since its effect is espionage).

Did any here play CIV: Call to power? i remember a whole space aspect to the game, But I can't remember how they handled satellites

I didn't change the solar panels, because solar panels are always blue (or black). Not having blue solar panels feels strange. I think that different body colors are enough to distinguish them.

Well you usually don't paint the satellite hull either.

Having blue contrast with other colours makes it look garish. While blue/red/yellow with grey is a less obtrusive contrast and follows a similar pattern.

That's better. The Research Satellite look like a light shade of blue to me.

By the way, if someone is graphics inclined (@merijn_v1 ), the Satellite unit art could use some improvement to look a bit more realistic. I don't know if the model itself needs to be reshaped but better textures would already help I think. If someone wants to create/import a different model from scratch that would also work. The current model is literally the only thing I could find in the database.

For the people that get a feeling of recognition when they see the satellite, the decoration elements are from R2D2.

Well as I said, I would prefer the body to be grey and the panels coloured.
