[Feature] Late game content and building changes

Like this? (Great Spy has the green solar panels)

I made the bodies more grey than the current white one. In GIMP they do look grey, but ingame they look more white than I thought.

Yeah, that's more what I expected. I agree that the darker grey works better in game. And I think I prefer red for espionage.

Merge a pull request by merijn: improved satellite unit art and buttons

Spoiler :

New update:
- changed Satellite output to +5 science/gold/espionage respectively
- new Hubble Space Telescope effect: +5 science for all satellites
- added International Space Station project (requires Satellites): +3 great people points for all satellites
- added Global Positioning System project (requires Telecommunications): +4 air unit experience, free Commando promotion for all eligible units
- SDI renamed to Strategic Defense Initiative, new effects: satellites can intercept nuclear weapons (if a satellite is stationed in a city targeted by a nuke, it will be destroyed and prevent the nuke from hitting), satellites can attack enemy satellites on the same tile (the targeted satellite is automatically destroyed)
- additional Space Elevator effects: +1 commerce per satellite built in the world, +5 commerce per space project completed in the world
- added Lunar Colony project (requires Fusion): +100% spaceship production, +3 production for all satellites
- added Golden Record project (requires Spaceflight): +5 culture for all satellites, half the space production modifier also increases culture output
- improved projects pedia page and project tooltip formatting

Next, I will address the space ship projects and change them into Mars colony projects, removing the spaceship screen for the time being. I will probably also improve on the AI for some of the new features, especially around satellites and the space race.

  • Television is still a tech with nothing else than wonders, right? Maybe it could get the security bureau, since Radar has another building anyway
Not sure if anyone else suggested this as I didn't dig through 7 pages of comments but: National Broadcaster? With improvements for culture/commerce or maybe even military re: propaganda? It's still a national wonder but not a wonder wonder.

EDIT:
Other thoughts after reading through the thread:
Re: Terrorism, maybe spies could spawn barbarian units? Otherwise, probably shouldn't put terrorists in the game.

Re: Space projects, Can we have a branch where after a moon landing you choose to either A: Spend billions of dollars and 70+ years on a series of less exciting but still scientifically very relevant projects with no clear vision of future human space exploration but you get fun space shuttle or B: You go to Mars?

Re: Lunch... YES!

Also, I wanted to say this is all really cool if we can balance the techs/buildings properly so the late-game era doesn't pass too quickly.

You mean doing useful things instead of going to Mars? I think we have a lot of that represented with Hubble, ISS, GPS etc.

Well, I wasn't commenting on the utility, just the excitement factor. I must've missed ISS though. Fair enough. Jokes aside: Do you intend these smaller projects to be completed alongside the bigger projects or do you intend the player to have to choose their projects wisely?

You call going no Mars not useful?
It does not have any immediate utility. We may learn more about Mars but not much more than we could with e.g. a more permanent robotic presence on the planet.

Not sure what you mean by smaller vs. bigger, but part of my intention here is at least that there is something for you to do with space even if you are not interested in winning the space victory. I'm sure great players will easily complete the ancillary projects while still going for the space victory, and they share some (but not all) prereq projects, but on the other hand they are production sinks that you do not necessarily need to go to Mars. The Golden Record project is a deliberate attempt to allow space investment to contribute to the culture victory in case you haven't won it already.

Are those projects available to only one civ, like world wonders, or can everyone finsish their own projects, like national wonders and vanilla SDI?

I mean, the insane requirements of sending humans to the moon produced and/or lead to many important technologies that are still in use today.

Likewise, getting humans not only to but living on Mars would likely lead to a massive boost in technological prowess in many if not most fields of science.

The only "national projects" are in the victory prereq chain: Ballistic Missile (enables ICBMs), First Satellite (enables Satellites), Man in Space (enables most other space projects), Mars Mission (enables victory projects), and SDI (enables ICBM defense and Satellite warfare).

I would like some way to make the ISS something in between, where multiple civs can collaborate on the project and share benefits, but I am not sure how that would work, so I left it out for now. Similar projects that could be affected by that are ITER, LHC and The Internet.

GPS is also a national project, right?

Right now, there are GPS (USA), Glonass (Russia), Compass (China) and Galileo (EU). I think India also announced plans.

No, it's unique.

I mean, there were also multiple internets but "The Internet" is a unique project.

Another thought, you mentioned satellite warfare. Does that just mean spying or literally weaponizing space? Blowing up satellites and whatnot. If it's the latter, will there be an option in the United Nations like the "Outer Space Treaty"?

I kind of want to give projects as a whole another look and introduce the idea of global collaborative projects,

Well, with several of the late game projects, I can't help but think that all your open borders partners should get the benefits as well.

That goes for Internet, for GPS, for Hubble, for Iss.

I mentioned in the patch notes that SDI allows satellites to destroy enemy satellites on the same tile.

The Space Elevator gets additional commerce from every satellite and space project, only if those satellite and projects are build AFTER the Space Elevator is build. Intended?

Yes.

Maybe research satellites could have some kind of effect on terrain features/improvements. Satellites which look at our own planet give us the knowledge to better manage the environment and our own infrastructure. Can satellites only be stationed over a city or can they be stationed over any tile? Perhaps a satellite stationed over a non-city tile could make that tile yield more output or speed up workers building infrastructure or planting forests (I know that's still not a thing but one can dream). Just ideas. I'm not sure if any of it is feasible.
