Foreign Policy: UniversCiv

I don't think we need to send them our map speculation quite yet. That's even more than they asked for. It should be enough to list the other teams we met, and let the know that we are south-west of their location. It's hard to get specific since we don't know where their capital is, but our north-eastern most tile is 13 tiles south and 2 tiles west of their most south-western tile (before they plant their new city).

Speaking of their new city:

They sure are protecting it. With three warriors surrounding Thunderfall, no wonder they haven't explored too far yet. Also, noticed their injured warrior.

I still think it might be good to say something like "Even though this deal will benefit you more, we are happy to agree to it in order to prove our intentions and build a strong friendship with your team."

Salut UniversCiv,

Cordialement,
Ambassadeur Bowsling

Hey UniversCiv,

Thanks for your quick reply! We really appreciate it when teams are quick with their diplomacy.

Forgive us for our naming mistake: we now know that the warrior Thunderfall drank too much Gaulish wine that night. With this mistake corrected, Asterix the Holy Roman has been pulled from the shelves and replaced with Asterix the Gaul. The children of Indira seem to like this version better.

Thunderfall travelled for a long time before he reached the borders of the Gauls. He met many other civilizations: the Egyptians of Realms Beyond, the Native Americans of WePlayCiv, and the Zulus of Spanish Apolyton.

We are south-west of you. There are about fifteen tiles between our borders. You are near the Zulus and the Native Americans.

Thank you for your warning about barbarians.

Sincerely,
Ambassador Bowsling

Thanks for the input. I'm not sure about the suggested line about this being a favourable deal for them though. They know this, they know we know this, and bringing it up just makes it sound like we're only accepting their deal because we really have to. They already think we are afraid of them, saying "we don't really like your deal that much but we'll take it anyways" will only reinforce that feeling.

Bowsling has a point. I doubt they will feel that they "owe us one" because we accepted their deal. Might as well appear magnanamous and and hope that the good vibes rebound.

Agree with that. Either they know we are magnanimous here and give us points for that, or they dont know or they dont think it is a big deal and we only mention it in vain.

There's an email with a French PDF attachment in our gmail. If someone could get it out and translated that would be excellent :)

We would be delighted to sign a 30-turn if you still want. Your information was very important to us and now we better understand your hurry to sign a peace treaty (we doubt the Native Americans and Zulus picked their leader so as to be at peace). The ideal situation would be if the two Aggressive civs fought it out, because unfortunately we are not in possession of any magic potions!
It will be necessary, after exploring the continent it would be good to set down a border between our two peoples in order to create a lasting peace.

Bowsling, could you fire off a quick note saying not to worry, we've got the translation handled?

Awesome, thanks talonschild for the translation, and for whoever let UCiv know we were ok translating on our own.

So, let's definitely agree to the 30-turn NAP and an eventual border agreement. I think it's ok to ask them where they've explored. This is a good message from them.

Yes, it is a very encouraging message.

I'm not entirely sure what to say about their proposal about a border agreement: it doesn't look like we'll be neighbours, but it is not entirely out of the question. Looking for opinions here.

For reference, the area between us:

Civ4ScreenShot4387.JPG

Note that they have now settled their stone city, so they really are not too far away. I believe that two of their cities have been settled towards us, and their capital is actually fairly north of the borders we can see in the top picture.

The mountains might be a pretty clean and easy natural border between us. We could potentially get that Marble south of the mountains, but that's pretty close to the Spanish core.

These are people who are open and honest, and we should do everything in our power to cultivate a close and good relationship to them. You have done a really great job so far, Bowling!

The mountains sounds like a good location to use as a border agreement "line", so I am all for that suggestion.

I agree with Caledorn. UCiv seems like a team that's easy to deal with. And they have sense of humour, which I always consider a plus :)

They seem to assume that we (I) are not capable of handling French diplomacy. Unfortunately, I fear that that assumption may be correct. :(

Greetings UniversCiv,

We will gladly accept your offer of a thirty-turn non-aggression pact!

If you explore to your southwest, you will eventually come across a mountain range and a plains marble tile. This is almost exactly halfway between our borders as of right now. However, it seems like Spanish Apolyton will settle that area before us, which will deny our teams a mutual border. Of course, in a scenario where Spanish Apolyton does not settle the area, we will of course stay on our side of the mountains.

Sincerely,
Ambassador Bowsling

Actually, the borders of their new stone city will touch the mountain range:

Spoiler :
UCiv%20Activity.png

Our nearest city is about 7 tiles from the southern tip of the range, so they probably won't believe us if we say it is halfway between our current borders. Instead of borders, I would say it is about halfway between our capitals (though this is something of a guess since we don't know exactly where their cap is).
