Foreign Policy: UniversCiv

If they are allied (which I assume is the case), we have nothing to lose. Actually we can only gain by making Uciv think their supposed allies are not good and determined in the war. Trust me, allies always suspect each- other in this - that the other is trying to trick him by saving himself the big pain.

I agree with vranasm, I see no reason to comment on war with Spaniards. I would also like to make it sound less like a bribe

Bonjour, Team Uciv,

We would be very much glad to finalize our NAP with you. Is there anything that is preventing you from signing it? As a token of our goodwill and to show you advantages of cooperation, upon successful signing of the NAP we would like you to offer a couple of our wonderful Fast Workers or a missionary or two so you can benefit from having a state religion or settler to settle city of yours. We are also open to other suggestions, if you would prefer something else. We are looking forward to years of mutually beneficial cooperation.

OK, removing the Spanish info section.

How about that:

Bonjour, Team Uciv,

We would be very much glad to finalize our NAP with you. Is there anything that is preventing you from signing our NAP? If you think a reasonable gift to show our respect to you can make you look more favorably and finalize our NAP quicker (like couple of Fast Workers, a missionary or two so you can benefit from having a state religion, settler to settle city of yours or anything else which can your heart desires), we will be glad to discuss the matter as we are looking forward to mutually beneficial cooperation.

I don't like offering Fast Workers straight up. They are so valuable that to me offering them FWs sounds like we're begging for peace. Offering missionaries or a settler does not seem as desperate though.

Edits for grammar:

I still do not like "reasonable gift to show respect" - I think it is better to approach them as an equal partner who needs help, not pretend we are interested in being their vassal. I would rather be honest and simply ask for help.

I do not know enough about current game situation to have an opinion what is reasonable "price for peace" with UCiv.

I also think saying we would give them "anything their heart desires" is a bad idea. Obviously, we would not, so saying we would makes the whole message not sounding serious to me.Just my 5c.

OK, then we might say "something else" instead of anything.

Uciv whipped 3 times this turn already btw. How much longer we might hope they are not preparing for war and want to talk veiled pleasantries with them hoping they will like us for it?

I already said that managing to keep Uciv from attacking us can mean the difference between life and death for us.

I do not have good ideas of in-game values here - but I would generally offer them something slightly below what would be our final offer now and let them know we are open to negotiations. I would definitely not use 2metra's phrase of giving them whatever they wanted - they may be tempted to try us and our bluff will be called shortly. Yes, we can confuse and delay them this way for a couple of turns, but I do not think it is worth causing them not to treat our proposals seriously later.

If you think sweetening the deal would make you look more favorably and finalize our NAP quicker (like a Fast Worker, a missionary or two so you can benefit from having a state religion, settler to settle city of yours or... pretty much anything else is negotiable), we will be glad to discuss the matter as we are looking forward to mutually beneficial cooperation.

How's this?

Approve Talon's message. Lets send it. They are arming. Our time for diplomacy is finishing.

Please let's just offer UCiv the bribe for the NAP right away. Sending anything is better than nothing. Fast Workers are useless to us if we are dead. And we will lose way more :hammers: in a war with UCiv and SpAp than from 3 or 4 fast workers.

Exactly.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't give them Fast Workers. I'm just saying that they are some of our best gifts, and I'm afraid we'll sound too desperate if we offer them upfront.

EDIT: But anyway, the important thing is to send the message now. If the offer of two FWs stays, so be it.

and I'm afraid we'll sound too desperate if we offer them upfront.
It is not upfront. It is quite back-front actually. They are mobilizing and their silence means war.

Wooohoooo!!! :woohoo:

Hi Talonschild,

First of all, sorry for answering once again late :(

We have no hostile intentions towards your nation and are willing to accept a NAP. The only thing that bothers us is the Ivory resource that lies between the mountains. Since we have a city 998 from it, forbidding settling in the horizontal range you suggest would make it impossible for us to connect this Ivory.
How could we find an arrangement?

Bye
Yuufo

This just came in our mail! Guys (and Margo), this is the most relieving thing I ever received in my whole civ career (maybe with the exception of one message from Niklas where he agreed to NAP and alliance with me while I was having war at two fronts and only muskets, and he had cannons and rifles advancing in my territory... which ended bad and disappointing for me in the long run btw, but that is different story).

Main thing is we are not facing 2-front war!!!!! WOoohoooo!!!!

So, it is all about a single Elephant resource? Where is this stupid animal located?!?
