As some can probably tell, I've been posting a lot of questions in the Science questions thread. At what point does it become too much, where, for example, I'm posting too many questions with too few posters and time in between?

theoretically you should, and you're also in the right user group now. There's no real reason why it doesn't work . 
might be that you need 5 posts after that rule change had been done a long time ago, that could be.Radyserb

If someone deliberately registers a similar username to an active member and uses the same avatar and signature with the sole intention of confusing people, but otherwise does not break any other rules (they're not a DL or anything), what happens?

No joke, that is almost certain. The DL will be perma'd and you'd probably find yourself on a month ban at the shortest.

I said it wasn't a DL, just a random person.
I should think the person who is doing that would be banned, since they're deliberately messing with another person's legitimate forum identity.

No one would "randomly" do it.. this would be already a regular forum goer. Thus their second "copycat" account is a double login.
If we see it's a DL of someone, the account will be banned.

So the scenario is that someone who has nothing to do with this site, is not a member, and has never posted here, inexplicably decides to cause havoc by registering and imitating someone who is a member?
I think we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
Seriously, the purpose of this thread is not to ask tortuous casuistic questions about what we'd do in wildly unlikely situations. The title Frequently Asked Questions ought to give a clue to that. It's meant to be for asking useful questions in order to help people use the site.

The scenario that aimee brought up has happen at least once while I have been here. What I do know is that person got permabanned as a result.
