I don’t know what’s happeninf but I’m enjoying that something is happening...

I feel that Ptolemaic Egypt was used in order to ensure that Nubia didn't feel redundant.
This assumes that they plan civs that far ahead.
If this assumption is true, you could look for other line-up anomalies (*stares at Catherine*) and maybe divine other future leaders?

Edit: Nubia was released as one of the early DLC so perhaps they don't plan civs THAT far ahead. But it's still a thought.
This doesn’t really make sense... Cleopatra (d. 30 BC) is in fact more contemporary with Amanitore (d. ~20 AD) than, say, Ramesses II who lived well over 1000 years before either.

Well, that seems like a confirmation what I was thinking earlier. Whatever it is they're working on, they're working on it in plain sight (or as much plain sight as possible within the confines of game development on presently-unannounced DLC) because they know we're watching. If nothing else, it's entertaining, and it keeps up involved and speculating.

If they name a future depot TamarOfGeorgia, I would laugh.

This isn't anything new. Brave New World and God and Kings were both first spotted as depos. In fact I think we kind of assumed they stopped doing that when they caught on that depos showed this stuff.. If anything I just realised I'm shocked they started showing up again.

Gaul! Would serve as a great replacement of the Celtic blob from previous games, and Vercingetorix is a leader I'd gladly take.

Like it or not, Scotland is probably our Celts this time around.

Looks like we’re still a month away from any announcements.

I think it could still maybe be a Third Expansion + Civ / Scenarios. But yes it could also just be four DLC released quarterly. If it’s the former, I still wonder if we get 7 Civs plus alt leader and then extra leaders / Civs in the DLC, or instead they just stick with the same numbers as usual across the four releases.

If they go down the Third Expansion route, then I’d expect the Civs will probably track the AssemblingTyphon leak - leaving aside the authenticity of the leaker, it’s a very solid list.

I do think we’ll probably get a Italy / Venice Civ / Leader. FXS have made a real point of including Fan Favourite stuff and picking up on fan comments, hence Tamar. I’d be really surprised if they didn’t pick up in all the Venice memes. No idea how they would implement Venice. I don’t think the OCC design could return. But FXS have had some really innovative designs for Civs, with Mali and Maori being huge standouts, so I don’t doubt they could do something cool.

Sigh. Third Expansion and DLC would be really awesome, particularly when you think how long FXS have had to work on something. A 3XP after the huge release that was GS, and then more content on top of that, would be just an incredible level of support and development for this game, more so when compared to previous Civ games. It’s been a very long wait, but if that’s where we end up in a month or so it really will be amazing. Cross fingers.

I'm so excited. I figured that when the 3rd DLC arrived there would be a 4th one as well. I'm hoping it's not just leaders though - I'd love to have new mechanics added. At the same time I'm thankful to have any content whatsoever.

The fourth depot appeared sooner than I expected. I now think there's a very good chance we get some sort of official word regarding future content before the end of April.

On one hand, they've been dropping DLC apps more and more frequently, and how many can they really be making? We could be zeroing in on an announcement date.

On the other hand, maybe they dropped it earlier than they were planning because some people suggested a funny name.

It's hard to say.

I know it’ll be what it’ll be, but waiting for end of April will feel like forever.

I still don’t get why all four depots have been uploaded basically at once. I also don’t get why we have ten steam achievements. I’m still hopeful for a 3XP + DLC, but I fear it’s a sign of just DLC. Terra Incognito indeed.

why are you guys still discussing celts? it is obvious the steam depot named "plaid" refers to speed and not the clothing article.

I think you are right but to be honest I had never heard of the term being related to speed before you mentioned it.
It seems to be originally coming from the movie "Spaceballs" and the term is Plaid Speed.
And it means something of going to fast (in a relationship) and that fits in with all the running joke names for the depots.
Probably more of an US-English term and they did it on purpose to confuse us.

To be fair, there was also a thing a while back where a Firaxis artist shared what looked liked concept art for a Boudicca-style Celtic woman. No indication that was for Civ specifically (would have been a pretty big NDA breach if so), but there was definitely a link being made there when 'plaid' first appeared.

For my part, I don't think the two are related. I wouldn't mind seeing a Celtic Civ of some kind, but I consider it unlikely. If they do, I hope they avoid the 'blob' approach and go with the Gauls or similar this time.
