G&H's Kingdom of Scotland for Vox Populi

I'm playing a game right now and it's working very well but the healing is at the start of the turn, not always easy to see when the traditional healing is at the end of the turn.
Good point. I will take a look. I might have missed it then. Anyway, schiltrons are a very cool unit, as is the whole civ. It favors a very unique style of warmonger game.

Yes, I agree, the design is basically @Hinin's, the Schiltron is one of 3 favorite civ VP units :).
In the game I play my neighbor is Shaka Zulu and he was invading me without resistance when I got the Schiltron, what a turnaround. This is the quintessential anti-Shaka unit.

Just checked it. The healing works as intended. I just overlooked it as it does not come at the same time as the normal healing.

What I also like about the Scots is the diplo manipulation. Not only should you provoke the AIs to attack you. But you can also benefit from allying city states next to your war opponent, so they will get conquered, or forward settle a new city during war to first lose it and then retake it.

This makes me think of events like the US trying to draw the Soviets into Afghanistan. Or the US knowing about the planned attack on Pearl Harbor and letting it happen to galvanise war support (according to some conspiracy theory).
Perfidious Scotland.

Perfidious Scotland
How dare you downplay the deeds of our immortal leader, the chivalrous Robert ?! Don't you see his shining armor, his valorous gaze, his commanding presence blessed by the divine ? One with such an illustrous appearance can only live in the most honorable and disinterested way possible ! Shame I say !
(this message was sponsored by the Ministry of Liberation, who also reminds you that access to Robert's civilopedia article is forbidden ; nothing happened in Buchan ; all hail the Great Liberator !)

Made an error playing Scotland today - Dun Cinneadh don't qualify for the bonuses provided by pantheons with language like Goddess of Springtime, which requires Plantations specifically. Not sure if this is intended or unusual, but given the Dun Cinneadh must be built on resources and you generally want to build as many as possible, this limits the utility of resource based pantheons.

could someone explain this number to a casual player? looks big.
This is the construction time and a worker start at a working base of 90 per turn. Châteaux, Haciendas and Feitorias have the same construction time. This time can be modified by different factors like type of terrain or Policies.

This is intentional and indeed, it can be counterproductive to take a belief that gives bonuses to one type of improvement when playing Scotland.
The Dun is not always good to place, you have to think based on adjacent tiles that will be improved and the need to build outside its borders to gain territory and resources and place a good defense against its enemies.
We discussed with Hinin increasing the number of possible adjacencies but I have not yet implemented it. A new version coming soon with:
  • +1 :c5gold: Gold to adjacent Pastures
  • +1 :c5food: Food to adjacent Camps
Building a Dun no longer cuts forests and jungles.

What? I can't download this mod because "Chrome blocked this file because it is dangerous"

Does this also fix the issue that Duns don‘t connect stone or is that a VP problem?
Any other resource that Duns don't connect? Need to know before I start a new game.

Same problem as for the citadel, the resources are connected but do not give access to the buildings. If I don't forget anything, the stables (horses) and the stoneworks (stone)

Still continuing with a Scotland game, just entering modern. This is a phenomenal civ that plays quite different from the typical VP civ. The most interesting diplo war monger IMO.

The strongest part for me are the extra embassies you can get in the mid game and the global influence from the UA. I grabbed 5 embassies and might get a 6th one from a liberated CS.
Keeping some good frinds and def pacts allows for taking some unit attrition and still push through. Def pacts also draw you into wars you might otherwise skip, triggering your UA.
Also, the war decision making is interesting. You might want to keep a weakened opponent independent instead of making him a vassal, so he can and will still declare on you.

I'm not sure I'm seeing the expected Great Diplomat points. I am getting 2 per turn, but I have 4 declarations of friendship so I should be getting 8? I had 2 per turn before I got the 4th as well. I'm playing on a huge map with epic speed.

Never mind, just researched writing and read the second comment.
