GalaxyNES- No Horizons

Awesome stuff guys! I'm starting to add people to the map, please tell me where if you haven't already said.

EDIT: Also, could everyone provide a few planet names, so that I may put them on the map?

Put men some where in the center, but only 1 planet has been settled on and it was named on my template.

Ma'Autra(Eternal Union)/Luckymoose
Species: Two species in a symbiotic relationship:

Lauki - the insectoid drones that serve the Maus as ultraloyalists. They evolved alongside the Maus and became dependent on them for their nourishment. Only eating the fruits of the trees. They have four arms, each with three graspers and hairs to allow for climbing on nearly any surface. Two powerful legs that appear like a common grasshopper's rear legs allowing for speed running, long jumps of up to forty feet and powerful striking ability. They have two small wings that only allow short bursts of flight and two tiny wings that give stability in these quick moments of flight that lay beneath the larger wings. Their heads are ant-like and streamlined, with small mandibles only good for eating fruits and chewing wood. They serve as the labor, foot soldiers and caretakers of the Maus. As such they lack the higher levels of intelligence and are mostly left to follow orders and without command they are fairly incompetent at any task.

Maus - the large live Oak-like trees that are the voice and brains behind the Lauki. They are highly intellgient, sentient plants that alone can gather and store a mind boggling amount of information. Their true glory comes in numbers where the roots act like neurons connecting to form a giant network that is one powerful 'brain'. Able to calculate as fast and cold as any machine. They are photosynthesizers like most plant life and can even survive in the vacuum of space for years on reserves of energy. They produce a sweet, blue-purple fruit with a pear shape and small out growths shaped like rounded spikes. The fruits taste like a mix of mango and tomato. They speak through the Lauki using pheromones, the Lauki can then vocally communicate on their behalf, precisely and without error. The Maus live for thousands of years but will quickly become overgrown and schizophrenic if removed from the Lauki and other Maus.

Forces: Symbiotic relationship and complete control over the home world of Au allows them to be the dominating force.

Technology: All technologies of the Lauki-Maus are derived from solar energy or fusion power. They will not make use of fossil fuels as those are sacred to them. Being Eco-Nazi's and all. They have space travel in which the ships are built around a Maus and the Lauki run the components. The Maus is the captain and has near complete control of the ships movements and main systems. In order to not ruin their homeworld, all industries that produce pollution are done off planet, same goes for mining. They specialize in high energy production and biological engineering. All technology is very organic in design and uses mostly smooth-round shapes.

Description: The Ma'Autra or Eternal Union is a very communistic style 'nation' where the Maus work as complete equals and for the betterment of the entire Union. They are fiercely protective of natural life and hate pollution. They are possibly the only spacefaring empire that will bring war upon enemies of wildlife. They do not worship any higher beings, they are purely scientific and trust the wonders of natural order.

I want to play too! I have a race planned and will post the details when I get time.

Iggy are you back at uni now? I've just moved into my new place at Portsmouth.

@Luckymoose I'm glad to see the Lauki-Maus live on...

Everything's looking good so far! Here's a map.

nohorizons.png

The Tapani position is a compromise of 'central' and 'closest to the core'. The Zan Hegemony here is assumed to be a minor Zan state. erez, would you like the original homeworld to be in this region or somewhere very far away?

The Wera (how do I do that accent?) and Flpinmy Association, being space-based, do not possess any planets, though they have influence (shown by hazy colour). Everyone else is shown with just their homeworlds, for now.

Somewhere far away is the home world where all Zan come meeting. Somewhere near Skriv (south of it). If you want names for several Zan empires just tell me. For that minor one you can call it Zan Shamai Empire. All of them are called Zan and a name of a Zan. All Zan empires are named after their leader and the whole Zan empires together form the Zan hegemony which should altogether be a superpower thought Zan's do not almost ever help each other in their wars, but they do not fight each other either.

Worshipers of Izoza/bestshot9

Species: The Sgligatik are a very unintimidating looking race from the planet Athre. They aren't very large, standing only about two feet tall, and weighing a little over forty pounds at the most. They have four legs and two arms, three fingers on each hand that enable them to grab hold of things well. What they lack in physical strength, they more than make up for in population. Each mature female (age 3+) can give birth twice a Sgligatiki year, to a brood of over 50 offspring each time. And, the average lifespan of a female is 40 years old (males generally only live for about half that time, and are only about 75% the size, on average, of a female). Their round head is covered in "eyes" (more like lenses, not quite eyes like we know them but they get the job done), they have a two-way digestive system, a one way respiratory system (which they also use to communicate) and a full circulatory system with just one three-chambered heart. The history of the Sgligatik is generally uninteresting until Year 1 of the Izoza Calender, as that was the year Izoza himself came to bless the ancient Sgligatiki with the gift of technology. A metal man from the stars above, Izoza came down to the surface and for the past millennium has spread the knowledge of technology, and has personally shaped and guided the growth of Sgligatiki civilization.

Forces: Spreading their religion, their belief in Izoza as the supreme being, and also the technology Izoza has taught them to create (energy weapons, other robots, etc.)

Technology: The main technology the Sgligatiki use is based around the secrets of Izoza, the Sgligatiki can recreate the technology though they don't completely understand it. It obviously originated from some ancient space-faring civilization.

Description: The Worshipers of Izoza have been united under the rule of their god Izoza for over one thousand years. Before Izoza appeared, Athre was in what we would consider its middle ages. Izoza was able to convince the first Sgligatiki he came across that he was a god from beyond the stars, and for them to worship him. In return, he would grant them power beyond imagine. They agreed, and he proceeded to kick start their technological growth, giving his first followers the ability to spread their religion to the rest of the planet, forcefully if need be. All that is left now is a planet of religious fanatics, eager to serve their god. However, no society is ever one hundred percent perfect, and whispers of dissent have always been present... but never acted upon. At least not yet.

Hess’peh, Nurmtin 7/Anonymoose
Species:
They call themselves the Nurm. They live in isolated communities that correspond to the deep tidal pools their ancestors were bound to. Their anatomy reflects this aquatic heritage, and their culture does as well. Their body type is like a ten-meter cylinder that is usually about three meters wide with one end tapered to a tear-drop shape. This is the ‘tail’ end. The tail itself is a vestigial spade foot that ancestors used to burrow into sediment to avoid predation and capture prey. Moving toward the anterior end, the next remarkable feature is the bony plates that begin as the trunk of the body begins and the spade-tail ends. The bony plates are an extension of a calcified matrix inside of the Nurm individual. The plates may have served a purpose in defense at some point, or perhaps an anchor for mating practices. The plate pattern continues until the anterior face of the original cylinder is found. On the ventral surface, hundreds of thousands of modified calcified spines serve as support and a means of locomotion for the individual. The face of the cylinder is slightly tapered, with hinged bony plates at the top and bottom. Recessed into the cylinder, a fleshy, writhing mass is visible. This mass is the only part of the Nurm that can see or feel. It is covered with anywhere from one dozen to two dozen manipulators covered with eyespots and olfactory recesses. Amid the manipulators there are three or four manipulator ‘eyes,’ capable of not only sensing light, but making sense of the signals that are received. The color of the individual is usually an earth-tone, but the color is dependent upon the mineral content of the diet of the individual. The exposed flesh is a pink/green. (I don’t know the name for that color. :/)
Forces:
The Nurm have very advanced communication skills that allow them to execute complex plans and adapt them to unseen circumstances easily. (I’ll elaborate later. Let’s just say they’re good team players right now)
Technology:
Nurm technology is early FTL travel. On the homeworld, Nurm-tok, every individual is equipped with facial apparatus that connects them to a network of other facial apparatuses and numerous large databases and virtual worlds that facilitate business and social activity. The apparatuses are used for communications, education, data retrieval, and even shopping. Some Nurm go for cycles and cycles without even removing the facial apps. (More details later)
Description:
Hess’peh is a coven of scientists and laborers that live in Nurmtin 7, the seventh largest community on Nurm-tok. They are working to achieve safer FTL travel methods so the rest of the galaxy can be explored efficiently and without mortal incident. Secondary goals for the group include, but are not limited to interplanetary diplomacy, trade, and potential interplanetary martial action.

Location: middle bottom star. Azure color, plz.

95 Annuals Previous:

A blue marble radiated the essence of life in the darkness of space. Ma'Autra had recently invented highly powerful faster than light drives for their ships and the closest star system was the obvious first stop on an infinite list. The exploration vessel commanded by Oau'Noc entered the system near the annual of her leave from the home system. Scans of the system showed that only one planet, out of the six present, had life forms so Oau'Noc made her way towards the blue planet. Upon arrival it was discovered by scout vehicles that this planet was occupied by an intelligent species had the potential to enter the space age in a mere few decades at their current progress. But the planet was in ruin from exploitation and pollution, their factories pumped smog into the air and poisoned the natural life. Something that could not be allowed. Oau'Noc knew what was to be done with such a discovered species. Purge.

The species in question was odd to the Maus that studied them from orbit, she had not thought of bipedal, scaly creatures like these. The closest thing to be comparable is a small creature on Au that feasts on tiny fishes in the shallows of the seas. She studied these pitiful creatures, they burned the sacred remains of organics long past and were in constant disagreement and conflict with each other. Causing the deaths of others within their species based on the shade of their scales, or location on the planet. This was all a nightmarish vision of a race lost to greed and ignorance. Months of study passed by without the planet dwellers noticing her ship high in orbit. She learned of the population centers and made her plans. The Ma'Autra had never encountered such an obstacle as warfare. Weapons were something distance in the minds of the Maus but adaptation to circumstances would come. The planet dwellers were named Uex by Oau'Noc, meaning soured soil.

She chose a location with the highest population density and landed her ship within the city. Smashing down buildings with ease and causing panic in the locals. Her ship sat for hours before she made her move against the Uex. In that time the local government had brought in a sizable military force of their own as a just in case meaure. It was thought by Oau'Noc that they were suspicious of the origins of her and believed she was one of their worldly rivals inventions. As a few Uex attempted contact with her the doors of the ship opened and out flew thousands and thousands of Lauki. Equipped with nothing but their natural bodies they had but one goal. Total annihilation. In vast numbers they continued to pour out of the sides of the ship, commanded by the pheromones of their master they swarmed the nearest Uex civilians causing the military contingent to open fire with large guns and artillery. All of which proved useless against the hull of Oau'Noc's ship. Though their small arms did cause concern for her as the Lauki could be easily killed by these Uex's weapons. As the Lauki ripped through the defense of the Uex they would constantly be replaced by the birth of a new generation. Reaching adulthood in three weeks the ship almost seemed to emit them like water from a pipe. Even as the days grew into weeks and the weeks into months she had no logical reason to halt. The mission would be completed in one try without break.

However, issues did show up in her plan as the Uex were fast to adapt to these threats. Using new forms of chemical gas weapons on the Lauki proved highly efficient and for a brief period the tides were stopped in their wake. It might have worked save the fact that the Maus are very capable of modifying life genetically. Oau'Noc had studied the food supply and other local plants species. She found a weed that the Uex had chemicals to eradicate, a fast growing vine that was a nuisance to the agriculture of the Uex. She simply altered the species to resist and grow faster. With Lauki spreading the new incarnation of the plant she could in a matter of years starve vast numbers while her Lauki defeated the rest. Years of fighting with the Uex ended in complete extermination. All traces of their civilization would be dismantled and returned to the soil, all of their knowledge would be studied and return with Oau'Noc to the homeworld. Ma'Autra had made it's first contact and it ended in pure violence.

Name: Nidkubra/ badunoff

Species: The Fudirunins are cute fluffy spherical beings who live in perfect harmony with each other and spieces they deem worthy of their friendship. Those they find "not right" they destroy utterly. Do not be fooled by their cutenes, for all their fur instantly forms into poison filled spikes. They are also not at all picky about what they eat and if the food is alive or not, so enemies have been known to disapear in a wave of small fury spheres. Induvidually, each fudirunin is the most cowardly creature imaginable. But its courage grows exponentially with their numbers, which could reach into the trillions on one planet since they reproduce rapidly but consume little. Infact, there have been stories among the enemies of these beings that in huge numbers some Fudirins had become so intoxicatingly brave thate they stuffed themselves with explosives and fired themselves into space at the enemy ships.

Force: The Fudirunins are capable of utter devistation, though most of the time they are quite pleasant. Their armies are huge and when they charge it is like a huge pink tide is drowning the enemy. As the tide passes there is not a single bone left of the enemy. Only the occasional puddle of blood marks the place of the battle. They always fight in swarms. If alone, they have no initiative to fight. They surrender at once. When together they become suicidally brave and extremely vicious. That is, only if you are "not right".

Technology: The Fudirunins specialize in automated labor, that is they create machines that run their eutopian world. They have medical machines, agriculture macines, machines to fix machines, orbital deffence machines, machines endless. Indeed, they live in a fully automated world which allows them to live in a completely socialistic society. They have developed the "elastic band" space travel. This is, of course, only an analogy. They "shoot" "elastic bands" to the sun of the system or a planet (the larger the object, the easier it is) where they wish to travel, one by one. As the pull of the "elastic bands" increases, the ship gives in and rushes foward. This travel is base on the theory that the universe is a sphere. As they rush foward, the ships dive in needle like into the fabric of the universe and only reappear withing a couple of hours (or miutes depending on the distance traveled) of the sun/planet. At this point they "cut" the "elastic bands" and manuever with the huge speed they have left (which by this time is just below light speed) to the planet or meteor of their choise within the system. This, unlike the hyperspeed theory, takes a while to increase the tug of the "bands" and travels nearly instantlyto the destination, rather than traveling steadily but move at once. Ships can sit in space for days or years while the tug increases, and not moving at all. This is convinient because the people can be loaded on at the last minute and not wait for years to reach their destination. On the other hand, these ships are sitting ducks(relitavely) when it comes to speedy escapes

Description: Fudirnins are utterly socialistic. Their world is fully automated so they don't have to worry about anything other than outside threats. All are trained in combat, and most work as scientists or as colonists. As with courage, their patriotism grows with their number, so there is no slacking off from the little amount of work they are assigned(mostly scientific).

EDIT: Badunoff will be added shortly. :D

United Republics of Hedge/ 1stcitzen
Species: The Verthommes (or Vertite), a species of semi plant-beings. They are mobile, yet they produce their own food through photosynthesis, an adaptation they acquired due to the slow rotation of their homeworld, Hedge, (10.57 years in a day) which required a migration of the Verthomme people. The Verthommes use sexual reproduction and are divided into two genders. The Vertite can grow to a maximum high of 3 Meters, possesses six limbs and is a greenish hue, (if your species can detect color) (three slender and “legs” which work in a tripod-like fashion and three arms, with smaller flexible appendages [fingers] branching off). There are three main races, first the Carvers, the only race capable of speech, eating meat (like a flytrap) or of possessing a mouth for that matter [but there telepathy suffers from a terrible lisp], they are the warriors and statements of Hegdemon. Second the Framers, who feast on the remains of other plants and decaying matter (similar to fungi), they are the working class of Hedgemon. Finally are the elegant Vengarians, the “true” plant species, their history is one of racism and a feeling of superiority over the other races, they make up the intellectual, political and cultural heads of the planet.
Forces: Plant-like in nature, the Vertites are slow but powerful; they use telepathy for communication and have a deep fear of darkness. They attack in huge numbers, destroying infrasture and are extremely resilient to attack. They have been conquered several times, but they always expunge the occupier.
Technology: The have access to above light speed technology, but their computers are semi-organic, capable of connecting with the telepathic senses of the Verthommes and of regeneration. They maintain a healthy balance on their homeworld and are very protective of the environment. Their military has amazing defensive Vessels such as BARK, they had advance stealth reconnaissance vessels such as the BRANCH. Their capital ships (Trunks) use state of the art weapons to disable enemy weapons, communications and engines, so that the SEED class bomber can tear them to pieces.
Description: Race is still a major issue on Hedge, as many refuse to associate with the other races, but poverty and violence are at an all time low, with the proliferation of advance solar lamps and water filtration systems hunger and thirst have been almost totally eradicated. There major products include organic software, environmental weapons and genetically modified hydroponically grown agriculture.

The Assani Expedition

It was a beautiful sunny afternoon in Centerin. In the Tapani Senate Building the Senate were meeting to vote on whether or not the governmental treasury should fun an exploration of the neighboring systems. Though they have achieved Light Speed Travel it is not economically or physically sound, but with the recent invention of Faster Then Light Travel. After a few hours of deliberation the Senate had came to consensus, the Space Exploration Bill passed at an almost unanimous vote towards it, only 12 Senators voted against the Bill.

After the Bill was passed work began immediately on the ship the Assani which is to travel to the closest star system X55-E. Massive funds were also diverted towards the project,. The Assani is estimated to be finished in roughly 16-24 months. Already many Allentryen scientists are being asked to join the expedition.

20 months later
It was a sunny day in the middle summer at the Liena Space Launch Area, hundreds of thousands of Allentryen had shown up to view the launch of the Assani. Allentryen of all ages were there from the elderly to young children, from whole families to singles. Finally the countdown started everyone started counting down with the announcer, when it reached zero the Assani's massive thruster were lit and the massive space craft launched sky ward. After 60 seconds it had reached Tapani's outer atmosphere. When the Assani had left the outer limits of the atmosphere its powerful hyperdrive roared to life and in an instant the Assani was light years away.

Aboard the Assani
The whole ship was alive with buzzing as the Hyperdrive had worked, many expected it not to. They watched as light buzzed by them. After about 2 hours the light show stopped and the hyperdrive slowed and they arrived in the star system X55-E. After they scanned the planets and the star in the system they discovered there were 4 planets. First there was a small rocky planet that they discovered had no atmosphere or forms of life what so ever. The second planet had an atmosphere but was discovered to have large amounts of poisonous Sulphur Dioxide, the scientists immediately leave that planet as it has no hope for life or settlement. The third and fourth planets which were much further out then the other two were both gas giants with a plethora of moons. The first gas giant was a brilliant purple-blue color with about 8-10 moons. While the other gas giant was a yellow-red color with about 4-6 moons.

A Couple of days later
After exploring all the moons and doing tests to find out hospitality and if they can support life they found 2 moons that could and they were both from the purple gas giant (now named Nuxue). The Assani's captain then ordered a scouting party to explore Nuxue A and B.

Nuxue A
Nuxue A was a large moon with the vast majority of the land covered in large fertile plains good for agriculture, no intelligent beings were found on it though but they did find a variety of native species. Nuxue A did have a small ocean covering about 20 % of the planets surface.

Nuxue B
Nuxue B was a some what smaller moon with a vast majority of the surface covered in water (90%). The scouting party also discovered a vast animal and plant kingdom on the moon with lots of variety.

I hope this is understandable.. I really am not that good at writing.

The Amur
Species: The Amur have in the past 2 centuries gone through a dramatic transformation originally being bipeds with two eyes and two arms as most humanoids they have become tripeds with three set of eyes one for viewing the composition of the air around, one for regular vision, and another for night vision. Their feet have transformed into things similar to suction cups. They have also dropped from their original 8 feet height to 6 feet.
Forces: They were once an interplanetary super power but with the biological take over of their homeworld by the "vine" a species of toxic plants which have taken the world and are responsible for the transformation of the Amur they have resorted to using smaller more cunning ships to retain order in their system.
Technology: They have a good knowledge of metals and nanotechnology which recently destroyed a "vine" infestation in a bio dome on their home world's moon. Their ships use ion or fusion based engines while most of their lifepods in case of emergencies use solar sails. Their system is a binary star system home to 8 barren worlds, 20 moons, 2 fertile worlds, 3 gas giants and 3 asteroid belts separating the different kinds of planets.
This diversity in planets has lead them to develope technologies for bio domes and space stations capable of sustaining themselves indefinitely. Their faster than light technology is based on sling shots using a gate to super charge ship engines allowing faster than light travel though these sling shots haven't been in use since the "vine" overtook their homeworld.
Description: The Destruction of their seats of government lead to a century of anarchy. The last century was spent on the Inter Planet Wars which were between the major ideological factions. The victor of the war was the Collective a faction which is extremely socialistic and devoted to the survival and growth of the Amur. It has established equal rights and a sound economy across the Amur home system and in the last decade it has seen the beginning of a new interstellar era as robotic probes are used to build a station in a nearby system in preparation for the arrival of a science vessel once it has been designed, built, and the crew chosen by the government.
The Government itself consists of 5 councils each with its own area of authority the councils are Legislative, Judicial, Military, Economy, and Science. The council members are elected by the people from each world or moon that is part of the collective. Every Amur 10 years elections are held for council members. The Executive branch has elections every 50 Amur years in which the Overseer is elected the Overseer has power over all the councils and can veto their decisions he also has the power to suggest changes to each of the five parts of the collective. He also has control over the collective's diplomacy but it has been permanently stated that the people will directly vote on all peace treaties or declarations of war.

(An Amur year is equivalent to 2 earth years)
(Uhmm I'd like to start in the two star systems to the south of the Association's most "western" system. Specifically with the one on the right being the Amur Home system if that is alright. The left one of course being where the station mentioned in the technology section is being built)

Two centuries is a very short time to go from bipedal motion to tri-ped motion, don't you think?

True....but they were tripeds earlier in their evolution so it was a sort of degradation caused by the toxins produced by the vine which is a vine like growth which can cover both land and later adapted to sea their toxins normally eliminate native species but the Amur survived by use of anti toxins but they only prevented death the result of the toxin remaining in their system was the mutation which still killed a large amount of adult population the children were the ones that survived with side effects such as the new set of eyes and the new stubby legs plus reduced growth.

If that isn't physically possible then I'll just edit the times in my first post.

I can roll with that. I don't need a refined explanation or any explanation at all, I was just wondering. They read like a fun concept.

Badunoff, I am assuming that Nidkubra is the name of the nation formed by your species, the Fudirunin, and that their homeworld is named Fudirun. Please correct me if this is incorrect.

lopaz, I crossposted here, but an idea I had was that the vine formed a sort of mutualistic relationship with its victims/hosts, which basically grafted these massive bodily modifications onto the species.

Also I can't quite use that location you wanted, as it was just taken by the Nurm and Sgligatik. Would you like to settle on the planet 'west' of them, with a colony in one of the Association-observed worlds?

Sure that is fine with me and I considered something like that but I don't know I didn't want a symbiosis between the two it is more of say a war of survival for the Amur was currently they are surviving but in comparison to pre vine era they are much weaker now being say a twentieth of their original population and the vine still spreads because its toxins also act like seeds meaning most amur from the homeworld have inhaled the toxin so they spread the the vine with them. So there is a sort of complex relationship between the toxin, the Amur, and the vine. Though the Amur and vine are in direct conflict basically the toxins role in the future of Amur is sort of undetermined. For instance I planned a few more side effects down the line much less major than what has happened so far though.

Sounds good then lopaz. :D

Also, a binary system is portrayed as just a single dot- they're not far enough away to be resolved at this zoom.
