General Politics Three: But what is left/right?

Where do you think they pack the meat? Where would they be most scared to answer the census? But that would misunderstand and oversimplify the dynamics of intrastate politics where they tend to live, and more particularly, where government services are made available once enacted. So sort of where they have to live, since, well. Lol, you get it. It's not like they're the right sort of person. But they are useful. So long as they aren't too underfoot in the gleaming beacons. That starts costing money.

Population increases are in red states. Now that's largely self-sabotage in blue states, because they aren't building housing. And so no one could move there if they wanted to.

In which the federal opposition leader discovers federalism:

Peter Dutton in standoff with state Liberal leaders over federal Coalition’s nuclear plan

The federal opposition leader’s calls to include nuclear power in Australia’s energy mix has so far failed to win support from his state colleagues

The federal Coalition faces a battle with the states on its proposal for nuclear power stations at the sites of decommissioned coal power plants, with state premiers and opposition leaders alike largely against Peter Dutton’s proposal.

Labor governments and Coalition oppositions in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia are either outright opposed to the plan or have failed to endorse it.

The nuclear thing is a dumb attempted wedge and renewables delaying tactic of course, but another problem they've got is their own party at state level also knows it's rubbish since they're the level of government that would have to do the work. Electricity is virtually all a state power in Australia, not a Commonwealth level power

Who "matters" is subjective... Jimmy Kimmel did a segment recently where guys were quizzed on famous women and the only women they could name consistently were porn stars and Kardashians...
Man on street interview choose stupid people for laughs (not like Kimmel can get any that's not paid for on his own), it's not representative of normalcy

Knowing who Joan or Arc is isn't funny, saying it's Noah's wife is a little bit funny. Those who gave educated answers will not be shown.

I could interview 10,000 women asking if I'm the sexiest man alive and maybe 3 will say yes for lols and I lost those, doesn't make it true (perhaps it is  but not because the that 'evidence')

lmao, thanks for enlightening us on how "man on the street" interviews work

It's a comedy show, its a joke, its supposed to be funny. It's not supposed to be scientific... but thanks anyway for your insightful analysis and "debunking" of the comedic skit:p

You really think that? I haven't seen him in years, maybe he's improved but I found him super cringeworthy mostly, I remember his interview w Mike Tyson was so awkward, I feel like without a script or someone playing along he gets like a deer in the headlights

Not "always", I was just playing off you saying "never"... but yes I like Kimmel, generally, and greatly prefer him to the other Jimmy (Fallon). Kimmel's roasting of Republican politicians, Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene in particular are pretty entertaining.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic issued a grim statement about an unspecified threat to his country in a social media post on Tuesday, raising alarm bells about a possible geopolitical conflict.

“Difficult days are ahead of Serbia,” he said in a Facebook post. “At this moment, it is not easy to say what kind of news we have received in the last 48 hours, [but] they directly threaten our vital national interests, both of Serbia and [Republika] Srpska,” he added, referring to the ethnically Serb Republika Srpska.

He vaguely alluded to Serbia fighting and winning in a difficult challenge ahead.

“In the coming days, I will introduce the people of Serbia to all the challenges that lie ahead. It will be difficult,” he said. “We will fight. Serbia will win.”
"

Doesn't sound good. Neither does the perpetual lack of Republica Srpska joining Serbia - it was created for that reason and 30+ years have passed.

Satire, but might as well be real

TikTok is already banned in mainland China. If you go there, you have to use their locally-censored version Douyin.
This is bullfeathers by the way.

You might as well say ah in Britain you have to use the locally-censored version of Yahoo called Yahoo UK. Which you know fair, I see what you’re getting at

Per Snopes, Tiktok was never available in China to begin with, though Douyin apparently is on separate servers to comply with Chinese law.
At the time of this publication, Chinese company ByteDance owned social media apps TikTok and Douyin. TikTok is available internationally, but you cannot find the app in the Chinese app store. Instead, you would find Douyin, which has been described as the country's domestic alternative to TikTok.

It is held on a different server than TikTok, which researchers have attributed to ByteDance complying with internet regulations by the Chinese government.

Douyin is available via the web. When we reviewed the website, we found that it was fully in Chinese and had an infrastructure similar to TikTok's, including the logo, as well as like and share icons. We found that we could fully view videos on the platform without an account. We could not verify whether the same videos are accessible on both platforms.

I struggle to see why. It doesn't appear to be about "owning the libs", or drumming up votes amongst racists and the like.

Shades are woke.

I could swear we've done this before, in this very thread

Texas did it already though IIRC their law was more expansive, essentially abolished municipal government 'home rule', and was struck down as unconstitutional in the end. But there is a wide pattern in red states of the state legislature passing laws that prevent municipalities from passing their own worker protections.
