Anyone know of a fairly objective in-english source of news I can access by phone?

Prefer no or minimal videos.

I use the BBC as one of my main sources of information. Given that they are routinely accused of being both pro- and anti-Brexit and both pro- and anti-right-wing (as well as other contradictory positions), I think it's safe to say that they are fairly objective.

BBC is pretty reliable for basic reporting and analysis, and they have a good phone app.

For more in depth pieces and analysis I go elsewhere though as BBC analysis can get a bit lazy.

NPR, PBS and the BBC are all good sources.

That they keep screwing with and dumbing down.

CBC.ca (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation website). There are some videos, but they're not the obnoxious kind that play automatically.

Ok time for a stupid question - what is RSS and how does it work?

It's a format for delivering web content.

So if you're using Feedly (for instance - there are any number of clients), and you want to follow PBS Space Time, you add PBS Space Time to your list of feeds. You visit feedly.com (or use a client, or an app), and every time PBS (or any other feed you've subscribed to) publishes a new article, it shows up in your feed. Articles you've already read sync across your devices, you can read at whatever pace you want, you can save articles for later, you never have to visit the actual websites to check for new articles. Articles are pulled in with just the relevant text/images, and none of the rest of the cruft of the original website.

Nothing. News increases the amount of cortisol in your brain and causes psychiatric problems. You are better off avoiding it.
