Gr7 - AWM vs 30 civs on a giant map

I think we will be very glad when we get rails.
I agree 100%. Let us keep sneaking in libraries in decent cites, and get more science farms going. Matt_g turn did show what I was worried about. We are now in the wait for cities to grow mode, and aren't gaining many more scientist.

I can give a little update, before I complete my set today in the evening. On turn 2 we razed Isin (Sumeria) and now we have an Egyptian border there. This turn the other visible Sumerian city will fall. Settlers are on their way to fill the gap, so Sumeria is almost out. If I play ten turns I might be able to finish them off. We have one more knight army in place in the north and the second will be filled next turn. I think that one will go to the south as the first bab units appeared there last turn.

Here are my 5 turns :

End of Matt's turn : some mm, changed some builds
IBT : nothing much

1)1305AD : Raze Isin (Sumeria), Egyptian borders are in view now
IBT : nothing much

2) 1310AD : new city founded in the north, get us some more slaves in the south by capturing two settlers
IBT : nothing much

3) 1315AD : Bad Tibiria and Lagash razed
IBT : nothing much

4) 1320AD : -
IBT : nothing

5) 1325AD : -

All in all it was realtively quiet. In the south all enemy units were bombarded and killed. In the north Egypt sends many units, but it can be handled well. I went through all the cities each turn. There are two settlers in the north in place to settle next turn. One is below the knight-army and one is below the swords-army. Chemistry is due in 3 at +69g

I have it. I'm requesting the full 72 hours ahead of time, just based on how long this is taking to download on my DSL line.

I assume we're heading towards Mil Tradition. Objectives, keep pressing northward, hold the choke.

During my turns in the south did not happen too much. Reinforcements arrived there and with all the catapults, trebuchets and armies it was almost quiet. The AIs try to settle at one particular spot there and I got us some more slaves by capturing 3 or 4 settler combos. Most of the action happened in the north.

I think we can expand slowly in the south as well, why not? defenses look good there and we want more town for specialists.
Agree with Mil Trad, then steam of course. I wonder how many turns we have until we get contacts

I guess I prefer having only one front. Heading south would extend our front line.

I also think we should wait a few more turns to see if the new civs show up with more troops. If they had speed 1 troops they could potentially still be on their way and make life on the front line interesting (the civs could also be at war and won't send anyone).

I will be moving into my new house starting tomorrow and will not have any internet access at all for a week.
Since I am taking vacation from work, I won't even have that.
Please autoskip me until I post back.
That should happen next Thursday or Friday.

Well I can official tell this one is a monster. It is starting to feel like my WM games with the long lags between turns...

Pre-fight – 1325 AD – Sumeria is down to three cities, Egypt has 18. We have 83.

IBT – Kill a Roman, three Trebizond drop offs.

1330 - Nine Egyptians, Nine Romans killed. Found New Niagara Falls and Caughnawaga. Get a leader at the choke. Raze Akshak. We are really weak at Trebizond, only two attackers within range. Only kill one knight and we’ll lose New Mattstown during the IBT. I hope this doesn’t come to a shock to anyone, that the AI are landing at Trebizond.

IBT - The Dutch attack a lone mountie at Trebizond and don’t go for the undefended city. Two more knights are dropped off.

1335 – Kill seven Egyptians, Kill three defenders at Alexandria and raze it. We have five potential attackers at Trezibond, two defenders. We’ll have some knights there next turn.

IBT – Sumerians plant a city right next to our knight army. Goigouen falls.

Chemistry=>Metallurgy (8 turns)

1340 – Raze the new Sumerian town. Kill three invaders at Trezibond, can’t get our city back yet. Next turn. Raze Pi-Ramesses.

1345 – Recapture Goigouen.
1345_-_Goigouen_Recaptured.JPG

Raze Erech, Sumer has one city left.
1345_-_Erech.JPG

1350 – Get another leader at the choke. Only have three knights to load into that army.

Here is the situation in the north.
GR7_-_North_1350.JPG

The Egyptians keep trickling in. Next player should be able to raze a few more cities.

Nothing of note in the south. There are a few more stacks coming in, most notably the Dutch. There are several settlers heading north that can settle in the no-man’s land. We must keep a strong force around Trebizond. Plan on seeing invasions of up to eight knights per turn. Our almost disaster had six AI units on the ground.

We’re probably about 12-15 turns from cavalry.

Some things just won't change. The only difference is your volume was the worst we have seen.

Did you know we now have 16% of the world's population? When you consider that there are 26 total civs that is a rather amazing number.

Our science output is getting pretty good. We are now ahead of civs on the bottom half of the tech tree by at chemistry at a minimum. Some lack gunpowder and engineering.

This is the hottest I have seen the south in a long time. That is one nasty stack even is if is AA units. We still don't know if stacks like this are arriving from Germany or Babylon.

An example of how we can squeeze more scientists. If we move the 3 hills to a grassland tile we gain 2 more. I know I am stuck on this subject, but we now make over 300 beakers from specialist. They are the key to our science rate, and will only get more so in the future.

Have we though about going after a wonder at some point. With an awesome 30 shields in Mauch Chunk I have no question we could get a global wonder. With this map scale wonders such as Newton's are a complete waste of time. I was thinking about Smith's for a big help to our economy. We could make the decision once we are further along the top of the tree. At least the known civs haven't even researched music theory.

Yes, that is the biggest stack yet. I saw two stacks of 16. One from the Romans (mostly horses) and one from the Dutch (spears and swords.) We should have the firepower to wound it and the units to kill it. The good thing is that the AI isn't coordinating their attacks.

Preturn: MM some towns.

IBT: Look like Babylon is showing up too. They put 9 Vet Knights next to our southern border. They could be worse than England who have Reg Swords (though lots of them).

1355 AD: Kill a Netherlands Swiss Pike getting 2 slaves from a Settler. Kill the stack of Babylonian Knights. Kill some of the English units.
We get a leader and build an Army near Trebizond.
Raze Memphis
Raze Byblos

IBT:Lots-o-units
1360 AD: We get another Leader and another Army at the southern choke.. Kill large number of units down south. The English stack wasn't hard to deal with. It looks like we will be getting that many units each turn though which may be harder. Fairly confident we can hold. At worst some Pikes get attacked and we lose one or two.

IBT: A largish Mayan stack and big Portuguese stack. Portuguese will be this turn - Kill all but a longbow. Egypt places a town where we were fighting. I grab another Settler (2 workers) from Egypt as well.

1365 AD:
Destroy a Egypt Town placed last turn

1370 AD: We get another Leader and another Army

1375 AD: Kill lots of Units. We continue to kill most that are near enough to attack.

1380 AD:
Bombard and Raze Thebes.

1385 AD:
Raze Elephantine and Abydos, core Egyptian Cities.

1390 AD:
Raze Asyut

IBT: Major landing at Trebizond. Germany has started showing up. We are however easily strong enough to deal with the attack. Our southern force is very large now.

1395 AD: We deal with most but not all the knights in the area. Our army is injured and cannot do as much as I would like

IBT: Further landings at Treb.

1400 AD: We are reduced to attacking a 1 hp knight with a spear but destroy the landing. I have added another healthy Army to the mix of defenders.
Raze El-Armana

Notes:
Check the MM. I need to rush due to a thunderstorm.
Next turn we should be able to destroy Sumeria with any luck.
Egypt is down to 8 cities and has lost much of her core.
We have a LOT of settlers moving to the NE. They take forever to get there.
South looks safe. Trebizond could use more support. Northeast can use more defense. Germany has started coming in, but we can handle a lot now. A stack of size 40 might scare us, but I don't think we would lose anything because of it.
I am building forests and chopping them down to speed up temples in places that need them.
We have a leader. I sent it away from the NE as we have enough armies to deal with the rest.
we have 21 armies
We gained a lot of Workers from the Razes.
I will try to post a pic later after the storm.

got it

since we razed so many towns, hope we can plant more of them. We need to get the steam faster for easier defense and a push south.
I am surprised we still have no contacts with overseas Civs.
