Gr7 - AWM vs 30 civs on a giant map

As suggested by Lee, ST4 is switched to a settler. MM to cut a turn off Magnetism. Switch over a few more cities to aqueducts.

IBT – The AI except the Babylonians are in general retreat across the front. The English found a city to our west.

1530 – Kill a lot of Babylonians . Found Southern Plains. Raze Leicester.
GR7_-_1530_Leicester.JPG

IBT – Looks like the AI is skipping the Trebizond area for the far north.

I went over to Seattle to see the Mariners lose and I thought I would have internet access. I didn’t so I kept playing. I got nine turns in.

1535 – Found Arathorn. Collect a Dutch and an Indian settler pair.

IBT – Now the AI are returning to the front. Portuguese and Germans this time.

1540 – Raze New Eridu which allows the settling of Gormoka.
GR7_-_New_Eridu.JPG

IBT – I leave Southern Plains without a defending army and we lose about six defenders there. :smoke:

1545 – Attack Uaxactun
GR7_-_Uaxactun.JPG

which allows the settling of Mayan plains. Since magnetism is due next, I switch two cities over to vessels.

IBT – We lose a barely yellow mountie army.
Alexander pops up. I buy his WM for our TM. We now have a map of Babylon in the southeast of our continent.

Mag=>ToG
Indians complete Magellan’s

1550 – An easy turn. The AI is shifting over to the right of the front. (This is the western side. I am using standard army practice here where your right and left is defined as you stand on your front and look at it.)

1555 – Picking off bad guys shifting to the right of the front.

1560 – Icy Green is now a target. I need to be able to settle another city so I venture off and…

Found Charis.

IBT –

1565 – Of course we need another city, so I attack Inchon…
GR7_-_Inchon.JPG

Found Rubberjello. Finally get a leader.
GR7_-_1565_Leader.JPG

Form another Cav Army. Set up to raze another city or two and found another city or two.

IBT –ToG=>Steam We enter the IA. Steam is due in seven at the moment, but we have some MM to do.

1570 – Of course it is time for more cities, so…
GR7_-_1570_Nampo.JPG

Three artillery pieces with that one. Two Korean cats. Found Gengis
Rinse and repeat at Chenju.
GR7_-_1570_Chenju.JPG

Found Hotrod.
Now this is more like it…
GR7_-_1570_Leader_2.JPG

After MMing, steam is due in 7 at -15gpt.

After Action – Most workers are headed back to our core. We need to think about disbanding our short term cities to expand the front. We have a fairly strong force of cavs in Gengis that can be used to swing around to the far left of our front and into Roman lands. ICY GREEN IS NOW THE NEW LANDING ZONE.

We have started building galleons. Two are on their way north. Given the size of our continent, I think an invasion of Arabia would be valuable for the luxury. We have some happiness issues.

Here is the front:

Well here is a mind blowing fact: We are the tech leaders! When you consider that we just built Smith's to help to economy...

Of all the Civs we know we are ahead by at least two required techs.

The answer on the all important coal arrives soon. I want to concentrate purely on a rail-net until every city is connected. At that point AI landings become all but meaningless.

I have played a few turns, but not made much progress. Mostly healing armies.

[Edit: Ignore this part. I am getting my games confused - I am so used to playing Lee's AW. We can go anywhere with the armies. It is me who is being silly]

One thing that is limiting me is the lack of settlers. Since armies cannot go past 5 of our borders, I need settlers to continue to attack the AI. We only had one in the far north. We need to keep a steady supply and not let it run dry.

I am building settlers, but I doubt they will get to the front before I finish my turns (can only play 6 I think).

Note that I will also be traveling from this Friday (September 2) to Tuesday (September 6). I may or may not have internet access and probably cannot play. I don't think I will come up again so it shouldn't matter much.

Greebley, i think you are getting mixed up, we did not play this game with restriction on movements. Armies can roam and destroy as far as I know.

I agree however on the settler shortage. I wouldn't mind if you build some so I can take over the game and settle a lot. :)

I finally looked at the game. With less games going on, I don't have C3C loaded as much as I use to.

I notice that we only have 7 turns to the all-important rails. While I suspect we do have coal connected, I would like to suggest keeping a single worker in the far north just in case we need a colony on those hills. With resources, you can't be too paranoid. The good worker news is the irrigation projects are pretty much completed before we start on rails. That time worked out well.

We do have to be careful about being over-aggressive with scientist in the core. Due to the multipliers I can stop starving Two Fish without losing any science. Size 1 cities such as Arathorn shouldn't have any scientist, as the goal it to grow the city first.

I think the team should agree on the collection point for all the ships. We also need to add some frigates to the mix. Right now I notice 2 build galleons, 3 in progress and *no* frigates.

We haven't talked science beyond Steam Power. I don't feel we are under that much pressure on the defense, so I would like to propose the path of: factories, electric power and infantry. Double speed workers are also extremely valuable to us.
After that we can push toward ToE. With being the tech leaders I feel no real rush for espionage. The only value would be a complete world map. Since we haven't met all the civs yet, that may be solved shortly.

Since almost the first turn you have beat us up for not having enough scientists. So I go and I painstakingly manage every one of those cities to get every bit of science out of them, and now we are being "over-aggressive." We weren't losing any productivity from the scientists in the core, because they came off water tiles. So the question is... can anyone ever make Lee completely happy?

There were a few scientists that were worth 3 or 4 (science + gold). Those did get changed since to me science and gold are the same thing. Very minor though.

One can also MM to not exchange gold for shields when you don't need as many shields. I don't have the patience for that one.

I have played a bit more and should be finishing up tonight. I will publish a full report then. Razed a few towns, but I don't think we will advance quickly until the units currently defending can join in the attack. This will require the rail network.

There for a moment I thought I messed up, because I was going all over with our armies. :D

Preturn: Some minor tweaks. Not enough settlers for my taste. I will be concentrating on them.
I think we really slowed ourselves down by putting 4 units in every army. We have none that can get to Arabia until transports. All new armies should only have 3 and not 4.

1575 AD: Healing the armies for the most part.

1580 AD: Attack some incoming units. We get several contacts. Get a world map that includes our continent. We own about 1/2
Looks like there are enough units to keep our armies pretty busy. I don't think we will advance much until we get the rails to get the rest of our military down here as well. We will advance some though.

1585 AD: Raze Seoul(Babylon), and New Munich (Roman)

1590 AD: Destroy another Roman town (syracuse?) We now have contact with all but a few backward civs. I decide to grab those - all are still in the Ancient Era. Arabia is one such civ.

1595 AD: Destroy a Babylonian town in the north.

1600 AD: Detstroy Taejon (Portuguese).

Notes.
I tried to keep one worker awake in every stack.
We get Steam Next turn. We are fairly exactly MM'ed to do this. I would re-MM cities after we get steam so that our towns grow more (so we can get more scientists in the long run.

Progress was slow. Enough AI units to fight that we cannot afford too much romping with Armies. This will change when we have a rail network I suspect.

I sent some Cavalry up to attack Arabia for the Lux. Their best unit is sword. Not sure if they will attack. We have 5-6 more units on the way. Since no leader we had no armies we were able to send.

lurker's comment: Holy cow thats a lot of land to your south!

I have no question they will attack. I haven't looked at the game, so I have no idea if we including covering muskets and at least one bombard unit.
I just hope this attack doesn't turn out to be premature. I didn't want to hit another continent until ours was more secure. I am praying more then ever for coal. Without it, the Arabia attack will stretch us to far.

got the epic

what a huge mass of land we will own

Great job getting the WM.

The southern portion of our continent will be difficult to conquer. The counterclockwise method that Greebley and I started is as good as any. We just need to be careful to continue to protect the choke.

Of course if I had continued building settlers, it would have been a little easier.

first update for the impatient ones:

Pre-Turn
MM, I think we shouldn't kill growth for the sake of science, but for steam, we better get that done first
swap Maunch Chunk to army as a prebuild for a factory. This is out wonder town and should not build settlers
statistics: we have 12 settlers and 125 towns

IT our landing force in Arabia gets almost shredded. too premature without an army
on our continent the enemy is running around our killing zone
we get steam,
gr71600.jpg

so we have coal after all

Incans start Newton

by the way, Gandasetaigon in the north is that place, we have 4 sources of coal :)
