Or shall we go all Orwellian and declare that slavery is freedom?
Is it possible that someone loves other person so much that in a sense wants to be his/her slave or better to say surrenders his existence to the other party? After all its his free choice...

Democritus rejects qualities, saying: “Opinion says hot or cold, but the reality is atoms and empty space"
Karl Marx, from his doctoral dissertation.

I use it to explain scientifically why I love my GF so much, and she I, when we spend so much time apart.

Just so. For me, "freedom" does this kind of flip of meaning from one side to the other all the time.

I think it's an even more problematic kind of word than "intelligence".

The arrival of a new radical idea in the minds of men is the sign of a great coming change in human life and society; it may be combated, the reaction of the old idea may triumph for a time, but the struggle never leaves either the thoughts and sentiments or the habits and institutions of the society as they were when it commenced. Whether it knows it or not, it has gone forward and the change is irretrievable. Either new forms replace the old institutions or the old while preserving the aspect of continuity have profoundly changed within, or else these have secured for themselves a period of greater rigidity, increasing corruption, progressive deterioration of spirit and waning of real force which only assures them in the future a more complete catastrophe and absolute disappearance. The past can arrive at the most at a partial survival or an euthanasia, provided it knows how to compromise liberally with the future.

Sri Aurobindo

All of us collectively are fumbling towards an apprehension of something that feels like a kind of group awareness – we are trying to feel the shape of it, it’s not here yet, and a lot of us are probably saying a lot of silly things. That’s understandable. There is something strange looming on the human horizon. If you draw a graph of all our consciousness, there is a point we seem to be heading towards. Our physics, our philosophy, our art, our literature – there is a kind of coherence there, it may look disorganised at first glance, but there is a fumbling towards a new way of apprehending of certain basic fundamentals.

A god is the idea of a god. The idea of a god is a god. The idea of Glycon is Glycon, if I can enhance that idea with an anaconda and a speaking tube, fair enough. I am unlikely to start believing that this glove puppet created the universe. It’s a fiction, all gods are fiction. It’s just that I happen to think that fiction’s real. Or that it has its own reality, that is just as valid as ours. I happen to believe that most of the important things in the material world start out as fiction. That everything around us was once fiction – before there was the table there was the idea of a table, and the idea of a table before tables was fiction. This is the most important world, the world of fictional things. That’s the world where all this starts.

"History shows that Hitlers come and go, but the German people and the German State remain."

Quotes from The Doctor

"Courage isn't just a matter of not being afraid. It's being afraid and doing what you have to do anyway."

"The very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don't alter their views to fit the facts; they alter the facts to fit their views. Which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that needs altering."

"Let me guess: my heresies appall you, my theories outrage you, I never answer letters, and you don't like my tie."

"Who said you're not important? I've travelled to all sorts of places, done things you couldn't even imagine. But you two? Street corner, two in the morning, getting a taxi home. I've never had a life like that."

"I never would [take revenge]. Have you got that? I never would. When you start this new world; this world of Human and Hath, remember that. Make the foundation of this society a man who never would."

"People fall out of the world sometimes, but they always leave traces. Little things we can't quite account for. Faces in photographs, luggage, half-eaten meals, rings. Nothing is ever forgotten, not completely. And if something can be remembered, it can come back."

"I'm going to need a SWAT team ready to mobilise, street maps covering all of Florida, a pot of coffee, twelve Jammy Dodgers and a fez!"

"There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, and the sea's asleep, and the rivers dream; people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, somewhere else the tea's getting cold. Come on, Ace. We've got work to do."

"I was nearly chloroformed by the performance of the Honorable Member for Mackellar. It nearly put me right out for the afternoon."

To former ALP MP Jim McClelland: "That you Jim? Paul Keating here. Just because you swallowed a f.....g dictionary when you were about 15 doesn't give you the right to pour a bucket of s..t over the rest of us."

I never tire of a good Paul Keating insult.

Mind has come up with this brilliant way of looking at the world, science, but it can’t look at itself. Science has no place for the mind. The whole of our science is based upon empirical, repeatable experiments. Whereas thought is not in that category, you can’t take thought into a laboratory. The essential fact of our existence, perhaps the only fact of our existence – our own thought and perception is ruled off-side by the science it has invented. Science looks at the universe, doesn’t see itself there, doesn’t see mind there, so you have a world in which mind has no place. We are still no nearer to coming to terms with the actual dynamics of what consciousness is.
Alan Moore

"A naturally occurring DNA segment is a product of nature and not patent eligible merely because it has been isolated"
-Supreme Court of the United States, Association for Molecular Pathology v. Myriad Genetics

"It is legal to carry a concealed weapon as long as the weapon is totally slick like a huge-ass machine gun that you carry under your trenchcoat, like in The Matrix.
-Supreme Court of the United States, Torchinsky v. Petersen

"Do not [EXPLETIVE REDACTED] with an IS-2."
-IS-2 Heavy Tank, Company of Heroes 2

“Too often, the notion of progress is used as a code word for perfection, the chain of being in a different guise. The term should be employed with caution. Some see an arrow of time in biology, as in physics, but in the opposite direction- a relentless tendency to improve, just as a universe has a built-in trend towards chaos and disorder. That is too optimistic. Some lineages get more complicated, some simpler, and much of life has to struggle to stay in the same place. If everyone is evolving, nobody can afford to stop, and there may be constant change with no overall advance at all. ”
― Steve Jones, Darwin's Ghost: The Origin of Species Updated

"I am the playing, but not the pause.

I am the effect, but not the cause.

I am the living, but not the cells.

I am the ringing, but not the bells.

I am the animal, but not the meat.

I am the walking, but not the feet.

I am the pattern, but not the clothes.

I am the smelling, but not the rose.

I am the waves, but not the sea

Whatever my substrate, my me is still me.

I am the sparks in the dark that exist as a dream -

I am the process, but not the machine."

– Chatoyance

Matter itself, you will one day realise, is not material, it is not substance but form of consciousness, guna, the result of quality of being perceived by sense-knowledge. Solidity itself is only a combination of the gunas, samhati and dhrti, cohesion and permanence, a state of conscious being, nothing else.
Sri Aurobindo

So, in theory, with the right frame of mind one can walk through walls?

(I'll believe it can be done when I see it.)

But then, if you could walk through a wall, there'd be nothing stopping you sinking into the ground either.

And without a material "you", where are you? It would seem you can't be said to be anywhere. And if you're nowhere, can there be said to be a "you" at all?

In theory, with right frame of consciousness/mind nothing is impossible.

Its the Mind which creates/rules the matter. Or you can say the higher consciousness rules the lower form.

You are everything/everywhere :) - God/the Absolute consciousness alone is.

from a book I was just reading:
There are two medicines to give you peace of mind: " I am everything" and " This world doesnt belong to me." Use one of the two.

Yeah, see, the problem with this is that it's completely balls-out insane.

Yeah, see, the problem with this is that it's completely balls-out insane.

Not completely, you see, it actually makes pretty good sense with decent line of logic behind it. Only as of now it stands contrary to our general everyday experience. Just like when ordinary folk without education by observing the sun on the daily sky concludes that it is the sun which circles around the Earth.

If you would tell someone in scientifically pre-atomic era that there maybe small particles which cant be seen by human sight which can be split up to release huge amounts of energy you would have been considered nut case. In both instances there is logic in those statements but also some missing piece of knowledge. To say something is impossible only becouse it may seem impossible by present day standard of knowledge is little balls out...

Btw we live in balls-out insane world. Why the development of consciousness from lower to higher form of live is accompanied by higher awarness/ capacity for pain? I am sure you could think of better way for evolution then that, right?
