Greek communication thread

greekguy: The *signature* looks fine. Send it along to them and please make inquiries as to whether they'd be interested in another tech trade. We'll have currency in 6 turns (or less depending on our Golden Age). We could use another one for three tech trade. :)

I'll send a reply to them, but i think we should reply to them about this as well. This was in my Inbox when i logged in:

Dear esteemed ambassador Greekguy

I hate to bother you over such a trivial matter ... however my Department of Scribes and the newly established Counters of Beans ... have begun nagging me about outstanding documents required and such

Apparently we still require the document that we sent you, outlining the recent trade deal, to have your mark attached and returned. I would consider it a great favour if you could follow this up personally.

I am also wondering if we can be of any other service to you ... as you are aware the Snarling Narwhal is sailing down your coast. Would you be interested in reports of non-TNT unit movement or sightings of any barbarians ... or perhaps we could discuss other knowlege tradings.

We are at your service.

Sincere regards

Feaurius III
MIA Foreign Minister.

Yes, by all means, send their parchment back to them. They are referring to a little ship of theirs that is now off the east coast of our continent. We would surely like to hear from them about any Iroqis they see. Since they are asking about more knowledge deals tell them we'd like to sell them currency soon. It's also time we start talking to them about what each of us will research in the future. If we each take a different path in the tech tree we can trade back and forth and perhaps get up on KISS and the nuts techwise.

Here's my proposed reply. If you guys like it, I should be able to send it out later today.

Dear MIA

We are glad to annouce that we have finally managed to place our mark to seal our trade deal. We hope you find this satisfactory:

(The document will go here...)

About your small ship you have sailing in and around the continent, we would greatly appreciate any and all information you could supply us about Doughnut troop locations. We also would like to participate in more techonology deals in the future with our Greek friends. Our brightest scholars are very close to coming up with a way to exchange goods. We will use gold coins as currency. If you would be willing to exchange your knowledge for these valuable secrets, I think we could have another trade. Perhaps if you tell us what you will be researching in the future, we could start up a cooperative research program, where we research different technologies with the intent to trade with each other for what we don't know. You should know that we consider you very good friends of ours, and look foward to continued relations and trade deals in the future.

Looks good greekguy. Send it along. We'll have currency in three turns.

EDIT: MIA does not have horses or iron - but KISS has both. If MIA asks for compensation for *scouting* for us we can give them this info in exchange. No need to say anything about this just yet though. ;)

Diplomatic message sent to fe3333au, Kentharu, and classical_hero, all listed as diplomatic officers in the last message we received from MIA.

I suggest the following - "A Non-Agrarian Defense and Intelligence Treaty", to be kept secret from all the other sides. This should have the objective to keep Galls on the Greek continent and the Iroqis on our continent, and make sure both civilizations can uphold a balance of powers. I know the Galls hate us with a passion, and the Greeks are leaning our way, also partly thanks to the nicely corresponding name of our ambassador to MIA.

This quote is from the Iroqi War planning thread. I think we should approach the Greeks with this idea. I also think we should ask that they not let on to KISS or the Nuts that we're researching currency. greekguy - please keep this in mind for our next message to M.I.A.

I got this message from MIA earlier today. Discuss what we should do and I'll write up a reply later today or tomorrow.

Dear greekguy, TNT Greek Ambassador

The people of MIA have instructed our nautical lookouts perched high atop the masts to keep their eyes peeled for Nutter movement. At this stage we have nothing to report, which is either good or bad depending how one views these things. On that theme, what news from the front? Is the war faring well for you? We sincerely wish that Meleet :worship: looks favourably on your efforts.

We applaud your brightest scholars whom you say are very close to coming up with a way to conduct business. An intriguing concept to exchange goods for tokens, very interesting indeed. We too are eager to enter into a research swapping scenario and are currently discussing how this will be implemented. What sort of timeline are you intending the proposed exchange to take place in? As we would wish this transaction to happen at our mutually earliest convenience, please indicate an expected completion date.

Now what technology would you be interested in from us? We can offer various knowledges, so please send us a list of prefered technology in order of preference, and we shall see how we can best accommodate your wishes.

When you said that we should know that you consider us very good friends of yours, and look forward to continued relations and trade deals in the future., the hearts of MIA did sing and our souls did tingle ... damn this hay fever that makes my eyes water  All I will say at this juncture is that we potentially have similar feelings developing towards you  and future relationships seem bright.

We will keep you informed regarding any naval reports that you would find interesting and await an answer to the timing question. Our scribes are eager to prepare the necessary documents.

Good fortune to you :goodjob:

Feaurius III
MIA Foreign Minister

Foreign Staff ... Kentharu and Classical_Hero are also at your service.

Well, it seems we can surely start upa conversation about the Provolution Doctrine (we work with the Greeks to keep the nuts on our continent and the Galls over there - wherever that is). If this ends up as kiss/nuts versus MIA/TNT is agri versus scientific.

We should give them some news of the war though I'm not sure what we should say about it. Maybe a bit of the truth - it hasn't been much of a war thus far - only a few skirmishes.

We should definately tell them we will be offering currency on our next turn. For our preferred wish list I'd say it is:

writing, horseback riding
literature
mysticism, polytheism

It's difficult to know what to ask for from the Greeks in return for currency as we may get writing or horseback riding and mysticism from the Galls.

Then of course there is the long term wish list for our larger tech deal with the Greeks (where we each research different branches of the tree and swap back and forth). I think our long term goal shoud be monarchy. We don't need republic with this long war ahead of us. I think we should offer to research construction if the Greeks haven't already started it. Unless they're researching towards republic then we need to work towards monarchy.

Here's my proposed reply to MIA. If you like it, I'll send it to them today.

Dear MIA,

First, my people would like to thank you for your willingness to aid our scouting efforts of Doughnut troops. This will greatly aid our war effort. Even though we are doing well against the D'nuts, any help is great. So far our mighty immortals have been rampaging on the forces of Doughnutia. Only recently, with the battle between Iroq Mounted Warriors and our Immortals, has our advance stalled a bit. Hopefully, your scout's information will aid us in winning this war quickly. So, have a beer on us as thanks! Now, my people have been considering the fact that we have a mutual disdain of the Dougnuts. As we also have a tendency to shy away from diplomacy, when dealing with KISS, we were wondering if you would be interested in a long term alliance with us. This alliance would not neccessarily mean you have to declare war on either nation, rather we would ask of you not to enrich KISS or D'nuts with gifts and trades of technology, gold, and resources. We hope you would be willing to work with us in a partnership to keep our peoples safe and keep KISS on their home continent, be their lonesome. It is imperative to both our peoples that we limit KISS's expansion to being locked away in their homelands...

Now on a more cheery note, our people will discover the secrets of Currency in 1 turn. My people will be willing to trade with you these secrets for any of the following technologies: writing, horseback riding, literature, mysticism, or polytheism. We hope you will find a straight trade for technologies to be fair. We also are offering to begin a cooperative research program. This would entail researching different technologies, for the sole purpose of trading them amongst ourselves later on. We would like to begin this program by offering to research Construction, to be trading to you Greeks. If you offer to research a technology on the path towards Monarchy, I think we could set up this program very quickly. Please consider this offer, as we want to enrich our people's knowledge and power, and we want you to be by our side in this endeavor.

Goodbye for now!

How about we say not to unduly enrich. We aren't really asking for a total embargo - since we're trying to trade with KISS right now ourselves.

Sounds like we'd trade one for one. I think for some of the following technologies would be better.

Everything else looks good to me. Anyone else have any thoughts?

ok, thanks for the suggestions. i'm going to send the message, with the changes, to MIA now, as i don't think i will be able to get on again tonight.

EDIT: ok, message has been sent.

To our friends of Team TNT:

I apologize on behalf on Team MIA for our tardiness in replying. We
operate a skeleton crew on weekends, and our noble Foreign Minister
has been unavailable. You will see when you receive the save that I
have put Writing, Horseback Riding, and Mysticism on our side of the
table for Currency. Please note that I put them there to try to
expedite our trade to complete it next turn, but unfortunately, I am
not authorized to finalize any deals - the final decision must come
from our Foreign Minister.

I entered those 3 because in my personal opinion, those are a fair
exchange for your offer of Currency. In fact, the beaker cost is
slightly to your advantage (17 to 16). If you agree to this deal,
then please click accept at your next turn, and I will do my utmost to
convince our Foreign Department that such an exchange is in both our
nations' best interest.

Yours,

Chamnix
President of Team MIA

WIll play our turn tomorrow so we can mull this one over.

EDIT: here's a document, too!

Agree on it, with a non-spread clause, we need to keep currency out of the hands of KISS and IROQ. We need to make the Greek Alliance stronger.

We should definately accept this deal. Remember to add that they shouldn't sell it to celts or iroq, and that we won't do so either, for the benefit of the mutual alliance.

Here's my proposed reply to the Greeks. Please give me feedback!

Dear MIA,

We are glad to here from you again, has many Doughnuts have been killed since then. We were starting to get worried KISS may have found and destroyed your great people. ;) Anyway, we find your offer fair and just, and we will gladly accept. If your Foreign Minister decides to accept this trade as well, I will send over another signed document. Hope to speak to you again, and also hope to learn how to ride a horse, write a letter, and pray in a temple.

greekguy, TNT Greek Ambassador

Proposed reply looks good but I'll add my voice to Provolution's and Theoden's: let's tell the Greeks that The Galls and Iroqi will not get currency from us and ask that they pledge to keep this secret between our two teams. Time to play up the beakers versus food alliance?

Thanks for the feeback donsig. Here's my revised reply. Once again, please critique it.

If your Foreign Minister decides to accept this trade as well, I will send over another signed document. However, there is one condition we must require of you. You must promise not to trade the secrets of Currency to the Idiots of KISS or the Nuts of Doughnutia. This is all we ask of you. As we consider you great friends and hold you in high esteem, we expect you to agree to this simple neccessity of my people. Hope to speak to you again, and also hope to learn how to ride a horse, write a letter, and pray in a temple.

hey guys, should i send the message? no one has replied yet to my revised message, so is it ok?

I would change just one word and then sent it right off. I'd change require to request. Actually that's only changing three letters, but it sounds much nicer and I think we should be as nice as we can be to our only friend. :)
