Greek communication thread

ok, message has been sent. changed require to request in the message.

nvm this. double post...

The Greek tech deal has been completed! :) Now we must choose what to research next. We could use some input from the Greeks about which branch they are researching so we don't duplicate efforts.

Received this message from MIA today. Discuss how we should respond and I will write up a response today.

Greetings greekguy

It is with regret that unfortunately your request to restrict trading Currency came too late.

In future this sort of caveat on trade must be agreed to prior to the swap or at the very least, stated along with the game save.

Our turn taker was not aware of any limitations placed on the deal when he accepted the offer, consequently team MIA in all honesty don't recognize any restrictions on trading Currency, as that was not part of the deal we initially agreed to. But rest assured, we have no current plans to trade this technology with anyone, especially your enemies.

I hope you can extrapolate what is being stated, and that you are not overly offended by our hardlined approach. I also wish that you are not held personally responsible greekguy.

Onto a brighter note, glad to hear that the war with the Nutters is going well. All of us here in team MIA are excited when we receive news from abroad. Those snippets about your battle victories are most welcome, could you keep the reports coming and even add them to the save.

We sincerely wish you military victories

Regards

Hmmm...., they sold currency to KISS! Sounds like the Greeks and the Galls are are good terms. A little surprising but not really a big deal. I don't think we should complain too much about this. It is more important to seal a long term tech trading deal with the Greeks so we can research different branches of the tech tree and swp back and forth. What we need to know is which branch we should research so we don't duplicate the Greeks' efforts. We have only a couple turns left to decide before we must choose our next research topic. Please try to get this info from them greekguy.

Here's my proposed response. Please post feedback.

Dear MIA,

It is understandable that you traded Currency with KISS, as we did not state so before making the deal with you. We will make sure all details and conditions are included in a trade deal before a trade is official. Also, here is the signed document of that said deal, with our mark included:

TMNIATdeal.jpg

Now, looking towards the future, we would like to get down to details on our proposed technology exchange program. This program would consist of both our nations researching separate branches on the tech tree. If you could inform us, of what branch you would be willing to research, we will state how the program could be carried out. We would really like to get this program off the ground soon, as we are set to research a new technology in a few turns from now.

Lastly, I will tell you of the latest from the Donut-TNT war. On the battlefront, 2 of our brave immortals fell, after being savagely attacked by 2 heathen Mounted Warriors. The mounted savages left the battle with minimal damage. Also, a stack of several MW's is now parading itself through the Sacred Jungle, and have even sacked the village of one of our barbarian allies. This stack will soon meet its fate, however, as we are setting a trap to kill several of them off in 1 turn. Hopefully we will be successful in this maneuver.

Bye for now.

Our signature sure has improved now that we have writing! :goodjob: I think we should leave off the part about setting the trap. "Loose lips sink ships" and all that.

Here's my revised reply. anymore feedback is welcome.

Perhaps we should add what technology we would like to start researching as part of the trade program, to show some initiative and to avoid that they propose to research that tech.

On the signed document "agreemant" should be "agreement". We do know writing now, after all ;)

We know writing, not spelling.

You can be more specific with the tech deal as Theoden suggests. Add a couple specifics and send it off. We need to firm up a deal and lock it down.

Alright, i sent out the message a few minutes ago. thanks for the feedback, as it helped make this a better communication.
now here's the final message i sent to MIA:

Dear MIA,

Now, looking towards the future, we would like to get down to details on our proposed technology exchange program. This program would consist of both our nations researching separate branches on the tech tree. My people would be willing to research how to Construct large buildings, if the Greeks would discover the secrets of all technologies in the Monarchy branch. We will trade Construction (and hopefully other techs for future trades) to your people, in exchange for the Monarchy tech branch. Please consider this deal and answer us soon with a decision.

Lastly, I will tell you of the latest from the Donut-TNT war. On the battlefront, 2 of our brave immortals fell, after being savagely attacked by 2 heathen Mounted Warriors. p.s. on your document, you spelled 'agreemant' wrong. the correct spelling is 'agreement'. only pointed it out because it is an official document. :)

Greetings Ambassador greekguy

Thankyou for signing and sending back the latest Agreement between our two peoples. The misspelling of Agreement was deliberate and we congratulate your eye for detail ... welldone :goodjob: I guess you also sought to test us and we therefore proudly point out that Vizier is lettered wrongly :smug: ... do we pass your test ;)

As to the issue of Currency exclusivity, you are gravely mistaken to assume that we traded it onto KISS, just look on your diplomacy screen. Our point remains that we retain the freedom to trade this knowledge if and when we so choose and as mentioned, at this point in time we choose not to exercise that option.

Please clarify simply and succinctly what exactly you are proposing to trade. You are offering Construction (20=600 beakers) in return for all technologies in the Monarchy branch. Does that mean we supply Polytheism (12=360) and Monarchy (24=720) ... I don't understand :crazyeye:

Also to a sombre note, team MIA are saddened and sorry to read about your recent losses, may the gods of war and fortune look down with favour in your next 'meeting' with the Doughnut foe.

Also we would love to engage in direct banter with you honourable Greekguy, will you not AIM chat with us?

We await clarification

warmest regards :goodjob:

Ok, greekguy, time to get back to work and draft a response!

EDIT: My apologies. Both the Galls and the Iroqi still need currency. The Greeks haven't sold it! I think we should ask them not to sell currency to the Iroqi who are our enemies.

greekguy, by all means chat with the Greeks if it will further our good relations. I suggest we tell the Greeks that we are more interested in agreeing in principle to a long range research program so we do not duplicate our efforts. We will or course have to negotiate each specific trade as new techs are learned. We expect all future trades to be as fair, equitable and mutually beneficial as our two previous trades. (So, no, we do not expect both poytheism and monarchy for construction. Theoden has pointed out that monarchy may not be a good government so we may not even want it!) We must also point out that an essential part of the package deal is our mutual agreement not to sell techs to the Iroqi or the Galls. By teaming up on research we hope to use our scientific trait to gain a tech edge over the two agricultural civs.

ok, i think i got all that...i'll write up a response either tonight or tommorrow. (i've got a lot of hw and a eye doctor appointment today)

Here's my proposed response. Please post feedback!

Dear MIA,

We are glad to hear you did not trade Currency to the Donuts or the Galls. There was a mixup in our intelligence of some sorts...:hmm: We would greatly appreciate if you did not trade these secrets to either of them. Especially the Donuts, as they are currently engaged in open conflict with us. Now, about the technology exchange program. We don't expect you to trade Monarchy and Polytheism for Construction. We were merely offering to reseach Construction as our part of the exchange, and you would research those techs. We would of course research some other technology to trade for those fine technologies. So, we would be willing to offer Construction as the first part of the program. What would you be willing to trade to use in exchange for the secrets of Constructions? Please decide soon.

Now, onto our report of the Iroqi War. Our surprise attack on 4 Iroqi Mounted Warriors led to the deaths of 3 of them. Our Immortals and Horsemen ripped the heathen Iroqi to shreds. This battle could very well turn the tide in favor of our brave soldiers for a good deal of time. May our warriors weapons be covered in Iroqi blood!

I would also be glad to chat with you. I would be able to chat via AIM on December 22nd at 5:30 PM EST. Please tell me if this time would be possible to accomodate.

Goodbye for now!

greekguy, TNT Greek Ambassador

uhhh guys, what do you think of the message? anything i should change, add, delete?

Doh! Sorry for not saying anything sooner. It looks ok to me. In future, if we don't respond feel free to take the iniative and keep communication going with the Greeks.

ok, message has been sent. :) if you guys don't respond to any future proposed replies, i'll send the message along anyways. however, hopefully it doesn't come to that...

I got this "reply" from MIA on the 24th, but i was on vacation, so i finally got to look at it this morning.

My computer is down ... all foreign correspondence to be sent to MIA g-mail ... also please PM Peter Grimes and Chamnix to ensure that the message is picked up ...

Have a good xmas

fe3333au

looks like diplomacy will slow down a bit now...

Dear friends:

We apologize for the delay in responding to your proposed offer of
Construction. We have few actives generally, and this time of year is
worse, and our Foreign Minister's computer just had a meltdown, and,
well, you get the idea.

Anyway, we are continuing to discuss possibilities. Do you know when
you might have mastered this art? Several of MIA's participants are
also diehard members of Procrastinator's Anonymous and are unable to
think clearly without an approaching deadline.

We do wish to bring you news of the barbarians to your south. We
recently watched as they founded the town of "Glazed" on the western
edge of your continent near some fish and not far from wines and iron.
The settler was guarded by a lone archer although there was one
visible mounted warrior not far away. They also had 2 workers nearby
performing unspeakable activities on poor defenseless forest animals
with a spearman looking on.

We hope this information is useful to you, and we look forward to
hearing more of the successful exploits of your brave military men.

Team MIA

We need a reply greekguy. We are currently XX turns from having construction.

EDIT: We are currently 9 turns from learning construction.

Here's my proposed reply:

Dear MIA,

Good to hear from you again, I love discussing trade deals and war. :) Now concerning the deal for Construction. We are now 20 turns away from discovering how to build large buildings, such as Walls and Aquaducts. Please offer something concrete in your next message, whether it be gold or technologies. We believe this deal will greatly benefit both our nations.

Also, we would like to thank you for the news on the Donuts. It is good to know what they are up to on their side of the continent. We don't have much news to offer, except we are gathering our forces to prepare for a huge attack on the Donut core. Our "Stack of Doom" will hopefully end this war for us.

Well, that's it for now. Goodbye.
