That is Florida, Nevada, Arkansas and Puerto Rico at one end, and Maine, Kansas and Nebraska at the other. My first thought is weirdness, but the weirdness of Florida and Nevada are so different I cannot think of a reasonable metric.

- Federal military spending
Gambling? Las Vegas style; Indian; State sponsored; bingo, Lotteries.... Could be changes in laws regulating various gaming practices.
Las Vegas. And Reno, but mostly Vegas. Pre pandemic it has been a huge magnet for tourists and job seekers. Housing market has been big.Isn't Nevada mostly desert? Why does it attract so many immigrants? (or is this just due to relatively close-by Mexico)
Or maybe the answer is something else closely related to Las Vegas, say out of the ordinary marriages.
Huh?...hmmm....Florida....PR/ Virgin Islands....Jeffrey Epstein....OK, makes perfect sense! Is it about prostitution?
