I have been looking for my store of ready to upload saved maps,
but I forgot where I put them. There is no index of maps on this site,
so I fear I am going to repeat one someone has previously put up.

I found this new one, from November 2014, and:

I think is best to ignore the elevated states with lines as they merely
pointed to examples I had to delete and backtracking that won't help.

I will give clues correct, but as annoyingly cryptic as possible.

That is Florida, Nevada, Arkansas and Puerto Rico at one end, and Maine, Kansas and Nebraska at the other. My first thought is weirdness, but the weirdness of Florida and Nevada are so different I cannot think of a reasonable metric.

Perhaps we should start at the other end: what do Nebraska and Kentucky have in common with Maine?

Isn't Nevada mostly desert? Why does it attract so many immigrants? (or is this just due to relatively close-by Mexico)

Las Vegas. And Reno, but mostly Vegas. Pre pandemic it has been a huge magnet for tourists and job seekers. Housing market has been big.

The city has been growing steadily over time.
