Yes, and metropolitan France would only be Yellow (which I assume to be the lowest category) and French Guiana makes up the rest.

Gold?

Dinosaurs or fossils or somesuch?

Nothing that can be dug up. The map counts something discrete.

Grey=0
Yellow=1
Orange=2-5
Red=6-9
Dark red>=10

Nuclear power is banned in New Zealand.

Wind farms?

Nothing man made either.

In case you wonder, it is on wikipedia and therefore truthfull and relevant. :p

It's something geographical.

Not a human artefact or anything living. Nor anything dug out of the ground.

But a discrete quantity.

Gaaah!

hmm...

Biodiversity Regions?

Something that's found mostly in jungles but can exist somewhere else:

Most High Waterfalls?
Distinct Rainforest (not just tropical ones)?
Subterran lakes?
Big Caves?
Bogs?

All these fall kinda flat in the Sahara region (Mali, Chad, Niger). But thes regions have been fertile once in the past, so what is left after the fertility has receeded? Cave Paintings? (nothing human...) Chad does have river systems though. Receeding lakes? Deep lakes?

I'm just clueless! Dungit.

Land over a certain height? Land under a certain height? Nah.

Lakes over a certain size? Nah.

National parks or Sites of Special Scientific Interest?

None of the above.

To get it over with soon and to give a rather big hint, the unit of measure of the map actually is "number of countries".

Uhh...

So, France/French Guiana/New Caledonia- and New Zealand- are "10 or more countries" but it's something topographical?

:think:

:dunno:
