Halloween is stupid

My friend (who isn’t religious) once put up a sign on his front door saying “No evil celebrated here” on Halloween to get the tricker treaters to go away.

Oh, there's dozens of uniquely Christian holidays, it's just that nobody cares. Something like the Assumption is a wholly Christian invention, but, perhaps because of that, it has no fun traditions attached, so the only people who care are pious Catholics and, for some reason, Cajuns.

Cajuns aren't descended from French Catholics?

Yes
This is a set of stories and traditions that fit my understanding, and lots of sources to back that very informative article.

What I miss, although it is lightly touched upon, is the relation with the zombies and the relation with all souls day.
My understanding is that the tradition of appeasing the dead, out of fear for the dead and the people that died, the rituals to make sure at the funeral that the souls would leave and if they came back not do harm, the ancestor veneration, is also part of the roots of Samhain/Halloween. A zombie, a dead man living, a "failed" funeral of body and soul. (Note: a zombie's appearance is similar to someone burried some time but not really decomposed)
For Samhain: The souls of the people that died the last year, threatening to take the bodies of the living, being confused by us dressing as a demon, being appeased by offering food, even getting good fortune back.
For the christian/catholic conversion in all souls day: the period where (most of) the souls are not yet in heaven or hell, and commemorating them, their good deeds, praying for the dead, helps to get them in heaven.

I never said any such thing. I said it's reasonable to be cautious about apples given out on Halloween.

poisoned apples will likely kill you. indulging in sweets will give you the 'beetus. I, for my part, prefer a swift departure. I don't particularly care for apples though. they're a low-tier fruit, possibly one of the most overrated fruits in existence.

Nice oranges are better. Bad oranges are worse. Oranges are too hit and miss. Apples are more consistent.

Oranges are okay, but I'd rather make an objective claim about my own subjective preference.

The egg on the doorway seems an unlikely outcome in the modern hypervigilant parent era.

Everyone knows it's on Mischief Night that happens anyway, not Halloween night. Too many eyes around on Halloween night, unless you wait until the wee hours.

I'm not talking about poisoned apples. I'm talking about apples with razor blades, pins, or needles (sewing needles, not the kind that contain drugs).

I've got some apple sauce in the pantry; I like a bit of that now and then. But I don't do apple pie or apple crisp anymore. There were about 4 years of my life when apple juice was a basic part of my school lunch, and I really don't care for that anymore. Cranberry juice is what's in the pantry nowadays.

Oranges are much better. Can't even compare.
I can't eat oranges anymore, and orange juice is also out of the question.

You've just never had a good apple obviously.

Yes, Halloween is stupid.

Anyone having any parties that I'm invited to?

Why not? There are many kinds, with a wide variety of tastes and textures. I used to enjoy the Golden Delicious ones.

Well, I think it was a joke playing on the common phrase "apples to oranges."

Have you ever had a Winesap apple or a McCoun? Those are my favorite. I don't like Golden or Red Delicious much.

Yes, I realize that.

I've never even heard of those.

As mentioned, I'm not into apples much anymore, other than in sauce. Nowadays for fruit I prefer cranberries, blueberries, saskatoons, or bananas.
