Has Twitter become better or worse since Musk controlled it?

If Musk ends up controlling Twitter, that would make Twitter:

  • better

    Votes: 29 27.9%
  • worse

    Votes: 75 72.1%

  • Total voters
    104
I'm trying to help you here: first find out what you're talking about then.
From what I’ve gathered. There are people that are on Twitter that are having a fit that Musk is planning to remove the block feature and complaining that people would be exposed to different political opinions.

I don't want to shock you, but I don't always read your posts.
I don't expect you to. But when you're quoting me I figure you'd at least read the replies I give. Maybe not!
But yeah I mean... I googled it and every single result said the same thing. And I've linked one of them, so that's all good then right?
Yup!

Moderator Action: Some posts removed. More on the topic please and much less about one another. Thanks.

Well, there's your first problem. If you want to avoid drama in your life, don't be on Twitter.

These days, I tend to avoid the anti-SJW/Woke segment of Twitter and sticking with the segment that don’t see any of that drama.

The annoying part is I have to actively curtail any whiff of culture war drama that creeps in the same way I constantly have to click on “don’t recommend” on YouTube.

lol, lmao

If you talk to people IRL they don't talk about that stuff, it's a social media phenomenon.

Why are you so desperate for minorities to be forced to view comments and content advocating for, at best their expulsion and at worst their elimination from society

Genuinely despairing
Why do you chose to lie? Because any post which violates the terms of service can get the post erased and the account banned. Please confine your claims to reality and stop making up falsehoods.

Don't lie to me, i can go on twitter, right now, and see posts advocating for the harm of and deaths of women, gay people, trans people and anyone who's skin color is darker than #FFFFFF.

Being exposed to those isn't in anyway a positive thing, that you can't grasp this is a you problem and a failure of your inability to accept reality, not mine

If you don't use the platform, don't make claims about it you can't evidence.

This doesn't happen, at least not consistently nor fairly, and anyone who uses Twitter knows it.

Elon is OK with bigotry being spread on twitter, but we're supposed to pretend that actually twitter is still a neutral party even as white nationalism, anti semitism, homophobia, misogyny and transphobia thrives on it.

Go look at any post mentioning or involving trans people, you're practically all but guaranteed to see anti trans rhetoric, if not "memes" of what these unhinged freaks think trans people are, hanging themselves

I would say that it's worse than that, bigotry is actively sponsored on Twitter. Generally speaking, most visible contents tend to focus on an "us vs them" rhetoric. What is worrying is that this is the most efficient way to manipulate people. Once you recognize yourself as belonging to a "side", you tend to easier accept everything that pretends to support that side and reject everything that pretends to be against that side.

Twitter is very powerful because of the influence it has on global media. They're all plugged 24/7 on Twitter and will relate facts depending on what they see on Twitter. As such, when you control Twitter, you basically control information at global scale.

I can't see any solution for that. At this stage, I believe this can only grow worse and worse until something very bad happen. I don't know what, I don't know where and I don't know when, but that's the only way it could end.

We can "cancel" twitter. If using twitter is seen as a far right thing people will use other things. The grundiad and Labour have started, if much of the global media that is not far right do it then it may work.

Free speech!
Except when Musk doesn't like it ;)
Elon Musk confirms that he’s limiting people’s ability to share outside news on X

The Tesla and SpaceX tycoon defended his policy on hyperlinks as a way to stop ‘lazy linking’, but without explaining what that meant

Anybody made the jump over to Bluesky? Seems promising, I'll probably transition over completely eventually.

I have been tempted, it does seem where a lot of people are going, but I have my doubts about the system. They scorned the open and widely used standard of ActivetyPub and made their own (AT Protocol), and I cannot see any way of getting on this open decentralised network than signing up with one for profit company.

It just seems to be getting in the exact situation again with a different oligarch.

Beats me why people use any of them.

And your comments essentially correct.

Microblogging in general never really appealed to me. I got BS and Mastodon for the lulz, but really I just use Lemmy or forums.

As everybody knows, The Onion has bought the Infowars website. Which would mean that it also now owns its social media accounts.

Alas, Elon I and Foremost is trying to refuse The Onion control over those accounts, arguing that users do not own their accounts and cannot sell or transfer them without Twitter's permission. They've actually filed this in court. Alex Jones is simultaneously trying to have the sale cancelled, accusing The Onion of acting in collusion with the victims of the Sandy Hook massacre.

Great victory, Alex Jones lost his site, Trump won the elections :mischief:
Besides, Alex is too old to get back to having the audience he used to, so infowars was dead either way.
