Has Twitter become better or worse since Musk controlled it?

If Musk ends up controlling Twitter, that would make Twitter:

You do know that the case that prompted "shouting ‘fire’ in a crowded theatre" as an example of acceptable restriction of speech was communists saying WW1 was not a good thing?
It was an abuse of the metaphor but the metaphor resonates ahistorically.

One right to protest against war is protected free speech, and has been exercised in the US (and other democracies)
Yes its an interesting part of history.

But its illegal to incite violence by shouting fire when theres none in crowded places, generally has rather disastrous results of mass deaths from stampedes

Probably.

I guess part of what gives me the willies is an entity like Twitter having the power to interpret TOS violations and discipline on major public figures or movements more generally. I don’t think that’s their rightful lane, regardless of ownership, really. Once a social media company reaches a certain scale, and once it’s used by public figures, national interest(dunno if this is the best term?) should start to take the issue out of the private sphere and into the public one.

I feel like I’m saying it’s a de facto public issue. There, questions of censorship and free speech do apply. I’m hearing “but de jure Twitter has that right”. It’s also true, I just think the scale of these platforms now demands answers to new questions.
I feel there is value in having some sort of publicly accessible service to allow hosting of text. I have said before, I would prefer a decentralised open source solution, but the public figures that could have made either happen pretty trivially but did not and then complain at twitter have only themselves to blame.

It was the case that coined the metaphor.

It really does highlight the problem. When the "fire" is something the government does not want you to know it do not matter if it is really there or not. It is interesting from that page that more have died in one instance of NOT shouting fire in a crowded theater than vice versa.

You could say that this metaphorical fire is only a fire if tptb acknowledge it as one. Otherwise it is a flower which happens to burn your skin make you think your skin is burning allegedly make you think your skin is burning allegedly make some people think their skin is burning for some definitions of burning, skin and think.

I was skeptical at first but he seems to be taking it in the right direction. Hyped!

And what is the right direction?

A few people have spoken.

Speaking of that, how long before Musk calls himself the voice of the people?

Hasn't he already by buying Twitter?

Amnesty was a good move, but who is to say it will be sustainable? (furthermore, it already has a qualifier, which - like all qualifiers in such settings - is subjective).

as you can see in the screen shot above, there is going to be a general amnesty for suspended accounts
That is not what I asked.

Anything but spam goes, huh? Can't wait to see how well this works out.

Based on his track record, it's going to be great to see the stock price crater some more.
I expect Musk to dramatically fall at some point, so as long as he owns Twitter that would mean the latter's demise too. Question is how long it will take for the fall, which can't be answered now. His sister-figure, Elizabeth Holmes, was sentenced recently to 11 years, but Musk has far more state-backing than Holmes ever did + Tesla remains overpriced but at least does produce cars people buy.

We'll just have to wait and find out, won't we? I'm just glad I get to have my account back. Like all 20 of them. :D

Alcuin's  actual quote was, "And do not listen to those people who keep saying the voice of the people is the voice of God, since the tumult of the crowd is always close to madness."

This doesn't negate the issue that who is separate from the crowd is also subjective ^ just having an unpopular opinion doesn't itself have to mean the opinion is closer to being correct than the popular one.
