Facebook recently started asking for a license to use your personal data - and it will lock you out of your account if you don't accept.
Web centralization sucks, but it's human nature to flock to a central point and do business there.

It's the same old expression of capital concentration, isn't it? Centralisation enables cost-cutting. As such profits can be reinvested to accelerate development of the technology ahead of the competition.

On a related note, I watched a vid where Y Varoufakis offers explanation why Musk and people like him are dreaming (for decades) of building copycats of WeChat, the Chinese app-for-everything. The underlying reason for that desire is that WeChat is the result of merger of financial sector with cloud technology sector. Easier to do in China, far more difficult to make this work in the USA. Since US has more rigid separation of technological and financial sectors, Varoufakis feels that traditional financial sector in America (Bank of America) will not allow tech giants (Apple, Amazon) to eat from the financiers' plate (too much). The reasons why proliferation of such next level applications works in China is specific to Chinese economic model.

Despite fundamental obstacles, some people are still looking for ways to crash through the wall to grab the benefits of the first maker of techno-financial super apps in America. Obviously, it is the next logical step to increase profitability substantially for the members of the trillionaires club, so they're all poking at it, Musk too.

You should instead get also the option to pay for your account.
Not sure if that's worth it.

And I'm here to complain that I got locked out of the CFC Twitter account :/.

Oh great, another platform to dump.

Elon Musk agrees with tweet accusing Jews of ‘hatred against whites’

Elon Musk tweeted his fervent agreement with an antisemitic statement on Wednesday night.

A tweet posted by @breakingbaht on Wednesday night read: “Jewish communties [sic] have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them.”

The billionaire owner and CTO of X, formerly Twitter, responded the same evening: “You have said the actual truth.” In another reply, he wrote: “I am deeply offended by ADL’s messaging and any other groups who push de facto anti-white racism or anti-Asian racism or racism of any kind.” Musk has feuded with the Anti-Defamation League before, threatening to sue over its accounting of hate speech on his social media network. Twitter did not provide a statement by press time.

Musk is "offended by racism", but regularly tweets antisemitic stuff? Colour me surprised, surprised, I say.

IBM suspends ads on X after they appeared next to Nazi posts

IBM has suspended advertising on X, formerly known as Twitter, after a report said its ads were placed next to posts praising Adolf Hitler and Nazism.

The company said it was "completely unacceptable" that its content appeared in such threads on the platform.

X said it does not intentionally place brands "next to this kind of content".

It comes as X owner Elon Musk was criticised after calling an antisemitic conspiracy theory "actual truth" when replying to a post on the platform.

The left-leaning watchdog Media Matters for America said it found that ads bought by IBM and other companies next to posts including Hitler quotes, praise of Nazis and Holocaust denial.

One pro-Nazi post that was shown next to an IBM ad was seen about 8,000 times, X said in a statement to the BBC.

The other firms listed include Apple, Oracle, television network Bravo and telecoms company Xfinity. The BBC has approached the companies for comment.

"IBM has zero tolerance for hate speech and discrimination and we have immediately suspended all advertising on X while we investigate this entirely unacceptable situation," the company said in a statement.

X told the BBC that ads are not deliberately placed next to extremist content, that the Nazi-promoting accounts will not earn money from advertising and that specific posts will be labelled "sensitive media".

"X's point of view has always been very clear that discrimination by everyone should STOP across the board - I think that's something we can and should all agree on," Chief Executive Linda Yaccarino posted on Thursday.

"X has also been extremely clear about our efforts to combat antisemitism and discrimination," she added. "There's no place for it anywhere in the world - it's ugly and wrong."

Controversial post

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Mr Musk responded affirmatively to a tweet that accused Jewish communities of pushing "hatred against whites" and which included anti-immigrant sentiments.

Media Matters said Mr Musk's tweet, which was seen by more than five million people according to the site's statistics, amounted to an endorsement of an antisemitic conspiracy theory known as "white genocide". It argues that Jewish people systematically plot to encourage immigration of "non-white" people to Western countries in order to create demographic change and "eliminate" the white race.

The X owner denies he is antisemitic and later said his comments referred not to all Jewish people but to groups like the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and other unspecified "Jewish communities".

In response to Musk's tweet, ADL Chief Executive Jonathan Greenblatt posted: "At a time when antisemitism is exploding in America and surging around the world, it is indisputably dangerous to use one's influence to validate and promote antisemitic theories."

Mr Musk has on several occasions repeated conspiracy theories and has also criticised social media watchdogs - including the ADL and other groups - for criticising his content moderation changes at X.

The company says that it has stronger brand safety controls than other social networks and that hate speech and extremism has fallen on the platform despite large cuts to the company's safety team. Several outside groups disagree with the company's own assessment.

Earlier this year Mr Musk threatened to sue the ADL, claiming it was "trying to kill this platform by falsely accusing it & me of being anti-Semitic". He blames pressure groups for a sharp drop in advertising revenue since his takeover.

While he has not carried through with his threat against the ADL, the company has sued another research and campaign group, the Center for Countering Digital Hate.

Mr Musk was scheduled to speak at the Asia-Pacific Economic Coalition summit in San Francisco on Thursday but cancelled, citing a schedule change.

So, he's claiming (or at least insinuating) that the ADL is plotting white genocide, but is also threatening to sue them for defamation? What a hopelessly insecure man-child.

Musk should just sue the ADL for $20 billion and they should counter sue.

Let the courts work out this grudge match over free speech and defamatory statements with discovery and actual evidence.

I think Farrakhan sued the ADL for $5 billion recently.

**Edit**
If Musk fears he has no case or is worried about losing, there is always the billionaire's gambit of just outright bankrolling anyone and everyone who wants to sue the ADL over something.

Manchild is the correct description, heh.

Now that I look more, the feud with the ADL appeared to be over back on October 5th.

Elon Musk has welcomed the ADL’s update, thanking the organization for supporting X. Musk also thanked the ADL for resuming its advertising activities on the social media platform. “Thank you for clarifying that you support advertising on X. And also very much appreciate that ADL has bought advertising on X,” Musk wrote.

Is Musk actually an anti-semite after all?

I thought his most recent tweets involved his conflict with the ADL, but now I'm not sure.

Musk is acting very strange. He is endorsing all the MAGA Nazism and Trump's election denial as he tries to increase company revenues through ads. That is an unlikely combination. Big companies are now pulling ads: Apple, Comcast, Disney, IBM. If he is really a MAGA believer, then he seems to be pretty much a wacko. But I do wonder if he is looking for a way to bankrupt X to get out from under its burden and grab some tax benefit. I fear though that he is just a rich hater who is clueless. Since he is a major military contractor, that relationship needs to be re-evaluated.

Have you ever entertained the possibility that he's an idiot?

 He is not an idiot. He is, though, using his talent poorly.

You have to be a special kind of idiot to whine incessantly about lost advertising income, threaten to sue someone over loss of ad income, and then make explicitly antisemitic comments, starting off another ad embargo.

The post to which musk responded is antisemitic because it does not start with "some". The key words are "dialectical hatred", that's all....
